Episode 16
Episode 16
In response to my words, Raiden tilted his head skeptically, then spoke up.
“Effort is commendable, so I’ll give you a pass today.”
“Th-thank you!”
Well, where’s this going?
I heaved a sigh of relief inwardly and went to get the ball, hoping he’d change the subject.
The ball placed in front of a large rock was red in color and had a slightly odd shape. It seemed somewhat gloomy.
Perhaps because it had a color similar to the clay pigeons that had exploded in the sky earlier…
It’s a strangely foreboding ball.
Moreover, it was heavier than it appeared. While the outer part was somewhat soft, I couldn’t tell if this ball was meant for kicking around or playing soccer.
I hope I don’t end up breaking my foot by kicking it.
Thinking this, I placed the ball on the ground and kicked it as hard as I could. I needed to show at least some semblance of what I had babbled to Raiden earlier.
Fortunately, the ball flew quite high and landed in front of Raiden’s feet. He, apparently invigorated, kicked the ball back in my direction.
However, in that moment, I felt a sensation that my body’s most critical part was breaking.
In an instant, my vision dimmed.
I thought…
‘Is this how I die?’
Many thoughts crossed my mind, but I couldn’t complete any of them as my head came to a complete stop.
Out of all the pain I’d felt so far, this was by far the most excruciating. In fact, it was so painful that it stopped my brain. My head turned pale, and I couldn’t think of anything.
I clutched the painful area with both hands and collapsed to the ground.
“Hey!”
In the distance, Raiden rushed toward me, looking flustered as if he’d gone mad. It was the first time I’d seen Raiden this bewildered.
He scanned my tormented state and then turned his broad back towards me, saying, “Climb on.”
What kind of bizarre torture was this?
But Raiden, who I knew to be a man, offering to carry me like a princess was rather comical.
Besides, I couldn’t just stay seated and clutching the painful area. With the last of my strength, I managed to take a few steps and approached Raiden.
However, in that moment, Raiden looked back at me with a completely frozen expression.
Why? What was he doing?
Seeing his face, my expression involuntarily stiffened too.
Raiden’s face had turned completely pale. He slowly opened his mouth with a rather serious tone.
“…It’s not your… belongings that exploded, is it?”
It was as if Raiden had just witnessed the most horrifying thing in the world.
I was at a loss for words.
And it seemed that Raiden interpreted my expression, even though I didn’t know how. He abruptly lifted me onto his shoulder, surprising me. With all my might, I struggled on his shoulder.
“Put me down!”
However, Raiden remained impassive. Ignoring my words, he started walking with me on his shoulder.
Of course, it hurt. But despite Raiden’s concerns, I didn’t have anything explode, so the pain wasn’t as severe as he feared. What was more, I was confused at the moment, rather than in pain.
“I’m fine. I was just a bit flustered earlier!”
But there was no response from Raiden.
I began to feel uneasy, wondering if he had figured out that I was a woman. My anxiety was growing.
I struggled with all my strength while on his shoulder, but Raiden remained completely unfazed, and even though I wriggled, he didn’t show any signs of hesitation.
Should I pretend to faint instead? I had no idea what Raiden was thinking, and it was frustrating.
As we approached the mansion, the servants who were working in the area turned their attention to Raiden and me. Their expressions seemed to say, “There he goes again.” Raiden carrying a servant on his shoulder was quite an unusual sight.
“Get Eleanor right away.”
As soon as we entered the mansion, Raiden ordered Ben Grandfather. When I heard that, I realized what Raiden intended to do. He was planning to call a doctor to see if something inside me had exploded or not.
Terrified, I struggled again, shouting with all my might, “I’m really fine! Please, my lord, put me down!”
Raiden had been listening to my shouts this whole time, but it seemed that he had had enough. He finally spoke.
“Can you be quiet?”
Roel, who was shifting through documents in the corridor, looked wide-eyed when he saw me wriggling on Raiden’s shoulder. However, Roel couldn’t do anything to stop Raiden. Raiden carried me to a room.
Raiden tossed me onto the bed and spoke firmly, “Get off.”
“…”
“What are you doing? Should I undress you?”
What was he doing, mounting me as if to prevent me from escaping? He sat on my legs.
Roel, who had been my only hope, couldn’t intervene. He was just staring at me with wide eyes. Raiden, still sitting on my legs, started to speak in a calm voice while wiping his face as if he found the situation very tiring.
“It’s not good to stay in tight clothes. You need to get them off.”
I swallowed hard in response, and he seemed to get the message.
Raiden didn’t have any clothes to remove, so he decided to get off me, but then he positioned himself on my back.
“Are you going to lie here? Should I help you get undressed?”
It seemed like he was going to make sure for himself that I was really okay. He had a sincere expression of fear. While I knew that he would feel guilty if something happened to me, this wasn’t the right time for that.
I was really fine!
I tried to get up again to stop Raiden, but he held my wrists and moved his body higher, making it impossible for me to move. My only option was to use my feet, but that wasn’t enough.
“My lord!”
I finally raised my voice.
Raiden, while squinting his eyes at me, eventually let go of my wrist and got up. His expression seemed to convey his complete lack of understanding for me.
Raiden, with his arms crossed, looked down at me.
“Is it because you’re embarrassed now?”
“No! Really, I’m absolutely fine.”
As I tried to explain, the door suddenly burst open. I couldn’t see it clearly since Raiden was on top of me.
When Raiden leaned out of the room, Abel was standing there, completely white, staring at us.
“What, what’s going on…”
Abel approached us anxiously. I quickly signaled to Abel, who understood my intentions, and he spoke calmly and swiftly.
“Your Grace, excuse my behavior just now. When I heard that my younger sibling was hurt, I unknowingly acted rudely. I’ll accept any punishment later. May I check on my younger sibling’s condition now?”
“…”
Raiden didn’t respond to Abel’s words and simply got up from me. He didn’t appear to be angry about Abel’s rudeness.
He just looked at the flattened object somewhat awkwardly.
As soon as Raiden moved away from me, I quickly got off the bed. Seeing this, Raiden pushed back his disheveled hair and said.
“Eleanor will be here soon. In case there are any injuries you’re not aware of, get treated before leaving.”
Now that I thought about it, Raiden’s hair, which had been neat just a while ago, was quite tousled. He must have exerted a lot of effort carrying me here. It was surprising that this man was so concerned.
“No, I don’t think I need treatment from Chase.”
In response to Raiden’s words, Abel firmly answered. I also enthusiastically chimed in.
“What my brother says is correct. I’m fine.”
Upon hearing our words, Raiden’s face twisted slightly. He tilted his head and asked us in a puzzled tone.
“I don’t understand this situation at all. Am I the only one who doesn’t understand it?”
“…”
“Was it that hard to accept treatment?”
To be honest, I had no idea that Raiden would be so insistent on seeking treatment. Abel seemed just as surprised, hesitating for a moment.
Raiden drummed his fingers with his arms crossed.
“Is it because Eleanor is a woman? I can call a male doctor if that’s the issue. Tell me, what’s so difficult about it?”
Isn’t that a more significant problem?
I urgently spoke.
“I’m worried about revealing my body.”
“Your body?”
I nodded.
“Yes.”
Raiden’s response was slightly delayed.
“Why?”
As a result, my response was also delayed by a beat.
“Because everyone has something they want to hide.”
After hearing my words, Raiden narrowed his eyes for a moment. Then, with a somewhat serious expression, he spoke.
“What is it, exactly?”
As Raiden mumbled, his gaze turned to Abel.
“You’re not hiding some wound from your brother, are you?”
Upon hearing his words, Abel’s expression darkened instantly.
“Wound? Is Chase wounded?”
Raiden’s question had a scary undertone, and Abel looked at me as if he were asking if I had been harmed by the Duke.
Perhaps he was wondering if I thought I had been hurt because of the Duke. Abel’s face was quite dark.
I had promised not to worry Abel, but I hesitated for a moment.
And Raiden was observing me as if he could see right through me.
I was horrified by his gaze, and I quickly shook my head.
“I definitely don’t have any wounds! I’m perfectly healthy and fine!”
I spread my arms to show them that I was perfectly fine, but neither of them looked convinced.
I just hoped that both of them would realize that I had no injuries.
