The Me You Made 2: Love, Passion and Revelation of the Family Secrets

Chapter 12: Part 12

She asked herself and got her phone immediately.

Lisa's fingers trembled as she held her phone to her ear, waiting for Canary to pick up.

The silence stretched, the ringing tone echoing in her mind.

"Canary, please pick up," she whispered under her breath, her worry growing with each unanswered ring.

But the phone just kept ringing.

After a few more moments, she ended the call, frustration mixing with her concern.

She tried again, but still no answer. Her thoughts raced—what was going on? Was Canary okay? Why wasn't he picking up?

Lisa set the phone down on the table, her heart sinking. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.

She needed to reach Canary—he needed someone right now.

With a deep breath, she decided to head to him, knowing that no matter the reasons behind his silence, she couldn't just sit and wait.

——

That late evening, Lisa couldn't shake the feeling that she needed to be with Canary

She headed to the hospital, her heart heavy with worry. The building felt eerily quiet when she arrived, the lights dimmed in the corridors as she moved swiftly through them, searching for him.

As she turned a corner, she saw him—Canary—alone, sitting on the cold floor of the corridor, his head buried in his hands.

His shoulders shook with quiet sobs, the grief that had been simmering now spilling out in the emptiness around him.

"Canary…" Lisa's voice broke the silence as she approached, her voice soft but full of concern.

He looked up at the sound of her voice, his eyes red and swollen from crying. For a moment, there was nothing but silence between them, the weight of his pain filling the space.

"I—" Canary choked on his words, unable to finish.

He wiped his face with the back of his hand, a weak attempt to compose himself. "I couldn't… I couldn't save him."

Lisa crouched beside him, her hand gently resting on his arm. "You didn't cause this, Canary. It's not your fault."

But Canary shook his head, his eyes clouded with confusion and regret. "I should've been there… I should've done something. Now he's gone, and I—I don't know what to do."

Lisa's heart broke for him. She could see the depth of his grief, the guilt that weighed so heavily on his shoulders.

Without a word, she leaned in and wrapped her arms around him, offering what little comfort she could.

"You don't have to go through this alone," she whispered, holding him tightly. "I'm here."

When she pulled him into a hug, everything seemed to break inside him.

He trembled in her arms, the floodgates opening as he cried even harder.

Canary's body shook with raw grief as he clung to Lisa, his sobs echoing through the quiet corridor.

His chest heaved with each breath, as if the pain was too much to bear. "I couldn't save him, Lisa. I couldn't… I don't know what to do without him," he whispered between sobs.

Lisa held him tighter, offering all the comfort she could. "It's not your fault, Canary," she said softly, her voice full of tenderness. "You loved him. You tried. But you're not alone in this. I'm here for you."

Canary's grip tightened around her, as though she was the only thing keeping him from falling apart completely. The tears kept coming, pouring out in waves as the reality of his loss settled deeper. The sound of his pain was like a knife to her heart, but she didn't pull away. She stayed with him, her eyes turning wet too as she couldn't bear watching him in all that pain.

Ketra who had been looking for Canary came and saw him with Lisa. She wasn't so familiar to her but seeing someone who could comfort Canary at that time made her happy. Without interrupting them she walked away back to Lucy.

They sat there in the stillness of the hospital corridor, surrounded by the quiet hum of the building, yet they were in their own world of grief and raw emotion.

Lisa didn't speak any more words—there was nothing more to say.

Instead, she just held him, letting him feel the support and love she had for him in that moment.

——

Canary's sobs began to quiet, his breathing slowing as the weight of the moment started to settle.

He pulled away slightly from Lisa, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand, his face flushed with the aftermath of his tears.

"I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice hoarse. "I shouldn't have… I shouldn't have broken down like that."

Lisa gently cupped his face in her hands, her touch soft and reassuring. "You don't need to apologize, Canary. It's okay to cry. You're going through something unimaginable right now."

Canary nodded, taking a shaky breath. His eyes still looked lost, distant, as if the pain of his father's death was suffocating him. He took a moment, trying to gather himself, then finally spoke.

"Thank you, Lisa… for being here. But I think you need to go home…."

Lisa gave him a reassuring smile, nodding. " Canary, I can't leave you here like this.." She protested.

" My family needs me now Lisa, I will be fine." Said Canary.

" Alright, I will come and give my condolences then before I leave."

She stood up, offering him her hand, and Canary slowly took it, still feeling the weight of everything but grateful for her presence. Together, they left the corridor and went to Lucy and Ketra.

She walked over to them, her heart aching for them as well.

"I'm so sorry," Lisa said softly, her voice filled with empathy. She knelt down next to Lucy, placing a hand gently on her shoulder.

"I can't imagine what you're going through right now. Please know I'm here for both of you."

Lucy looked up, her eyes red from crying, and gave a small, grateful nod. "Thank you, Lisa. It means a lot." She didn't have the strength for more words, but the sincerity in her gaze spoke volumes.

Lisa then turned to Ketra, who was sitting beside Lucy, her expression just as pained. "Ketra, I'm so sorry. If there's anything I can do, anything at all…"

Ketra met her gaze and offered a weak smile. "I know, Lisa. Thank you. Just… be there for Canary. He'll need you more than ever."

Lisa gave a small nod, her heart tightening. "I will."

After a brief pause, Lisa stood up, glancing back at Canary, who was waiting by the door. She gave Lucy and Ketra one last look, then turned to leave. "Take care of yourselves. I'll check in soon."

With that, she walked back to Canary, and they left the room together.

Canary stopped and the exit door and she turned to look at him.
