chapter 15
14 – Successfully Rescued the Elf.
Telepathy is a unique magic that transmits voices from mind to mind.
It’s like what people commonly refer to as telepathy.
Before entering the mansion, Franz sent a telepathic message to Mousetrap.
“Ah-, did you receive the gift from Senior Mousetrap?”
[Who, who are you? Who are you?!]
They say that perpetrators do not remember the sins they have committed.
Mousetrap’s appearance was exactly like that.
‘How insolent.’
A deep furrow formed between Franz’s brows.
For the victims, every day must be like hell, but the perpetrator lives comfortably without remembering anything.
It was something that could never be allowed, and it was something that should never happen.
So, naturally, it seemed impossible to let Mousetrap go easily.
“The magic was so crude that it was undone just by snapping my fingers.”
[Cr, crude?! Who are you! What kind of b*stard are you!!]
Mousetrap’s enraged voice echoed in Franz’s head.
It was only natural, as he had openly mocked the magic.
Wizards are people whose confidence in their magic pierces the sky.
No wonder the two associations fought day and night for three days over which was stronger, fire magic or water magic.
Anyway.
When mocking a wizard, it is more effective to insult the magic rather than the wizard himself.
Especially for someone as confident as Mousetrap.
[Hey! You’re from the Magic Tower, aren’t you?! I have a lot of connections in the upper echelons of the Magic Tower, you know? I’ll make sure you never set foot in the Magic Tower again!]
Countless question marks appeared in Franz’s mind.
‘Connections in the upper echelons?’
The upper echelons would refer to the heads of each association or the old men who have been in the Magic Tower for a long time.
But no matter how much I thought about it, there was no one among the higher-ups who liked Rat Trap.
Franz asked out of pure curiosity.
“Who exactly are these higher-ups?”
[You, do you know Franz Gilbert? If you’re from the Tower, you must know him, right? He’s the Tower Master now, but he used to be my junior.]
Puh-hat-.
Laughter burst out of Franz’s mouth.
In the end, the guy was lying.
He was telling Franz that he had connections with Franz.
No wonder nothing came to mind no matter how much he thought about it.
It was a story made up from the beginning, so it was only natural.
Franz decided to play along with the guy’s lie.
He was curious to see how far he could make it up.
“Gasp-. Were you the senior of the Tower Master?”
[Do you realize now who you’ve messed with?]
“Oh, I’m sorry for not recognizing a great senior.”
[If you understand, stop here and leave. If you go now, I’ll specially ask Franz to look after you.]
Rat Trap’s voice was full of excitement.
He probably thought things were going smoothly.
‘What an absolute blockhead.’
If he had called him Senior Rat Trap from the beginning, he should have realized that he knew his identity.
Well, if he had been smart, he wouldn’t have gotten involved in this in the first place, and he certainly wouldn’t have sold out the Tower Master.
[So, let’s hear your name, who exactly are you?]
Franz was getting tired of Rat Trap’s poor imagination.
So now, he thought he might as well enjoy the most fun part.
“Franz Gilbert.”
[What…?]
“Didn’t you understand? The Tower Master you were talking about is me.”
For the crime of harassing an innocent junior.
For not remembering the victim’s voice, an additional crime of impudence.
And for selling out the Tower Master, another addition.
Having been involved in the elf slave incident, what more is there to say?
Hmm, execution.
It was the moment the verdict was delivered in Franz’s mind.
* * * * *
In a world shrouded in darkness.
Hera was hiding behind a large tree planted in the garden, watching the knights.
“Hey, did you see the new slaves that came in this time?”
“Of course I saw them. They were just incredible from top to bottom.”
“Do you think we could ask Lord Gidrick for a chance with them?”
“Shut up, man. If you say things like that, you’ll be sold as a slave too. And then you’ll be sold to some pig-like noblewoman and be…”
Grit.
Hera ground her teeth at their vile conversation.
Like master, like knights.
The evil of the world, those who taint it just by existing.
Hera’s hand slowly stroked the tree.
Then the large tree’s roots began to wriggle and move.
“Hey, did you hear something?”
“I think I heard it too…”
The knights began to look around, but it was already too late.
“It sounds like the ground is splitting… Gah-!”
“What…? Wh-what… Gah-.”
The tree roots that had burst through the ground pierced the knights’ necks precisely.
It was the power of the Spirit King that Hera possessed.
The tree roots that had sprung up soon returned to their original form, and the knights who had fallen to the ground writhed in pain.
From their pierced necks, only the sound of air escaping could be heard.
Hera looked down at them with a cold gaze.
Thinking of the pain the elves sold into slavery had endured, even grinding them into tiny pieces wouldn’t be enough…
But she was here to rescue the elves, not to vent her anger.
‘Time is of the essence.’
Hera’s figure once again melted into the darkness.
Even after that, the knights guarding Gidrick’s mansion died without a trace.
Tripping over a protruding weed on the ground, a vine strangled their neck.
A tree trunk suddenly moved and twisted their neck.
A swarm of rats appeared and gnawed them alive.
Thus, Hera dealt with all the external knights.
Neatly, without a trace.
‘The basement, it must be the basement.’
Hera, who had entered the mansion, immediately began to search for the way to the basement.
And fortunately, it wasn’t long before she found a staircase leading downwards.
“Ugh, aaargh-!”
Just as Hera was about to proceed down the stairs, a scream filled with pain echoed from upstairs.
‘It must be Franz moving.’
Hera’s steps, which had momentarily hesitated, began to move downward again.
Click-clack.
In the darkness, only the sound of footsteps echoed loudly.
She went down the stairs, and down again.
At the end, what Hera faced was a long corridor.
One side of the corridor was entirely prison cells, just as Franz had said, the elves seemed to be here.
‘What crime could the elves have committed to be imprisoned in such a place…!’
Hera’s anger surged for a moment, but she shook her head and swallowed it down.
First, she had to rescue the elves.
Hera’s steps quickly moved down the corridor, and soon stopped in front of a cell.
Looking into the cold iron bars, Hera spoke.
“Are you, are you alright?!”
The elves, dressed in shabby clothes, were sitting on the hard floor.
At Hera’s voice, the elves all raised their heads.
In the presence of their savior, their lifeless eyes began to brighten.
And their mouths opened, and a dry voice flowed out.
“Help… us….”
“I will rescue you right now, just wait a little longer.”
Bang-!
Hera struck the prison lock with her fist.
The lock shattered instantly, and the prison door swung open.
It was then.
Click-clack-.
Footsteps echoed through the corridor.
Hera immediately turned her head towards the source.
There stood two knights, swords in hand.
It seemed there were knights not only outside but also inside.
“Hmph….”
At the sudden, strange sound, Hera’s gaze turned towards the inside of the prison.
The elves inside the prison were cowering in fear at the sight of the knights.
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle this.”
A gentle smile spread across Hera’s face.
But that smile was only for the elves.
When she looked back at the knights, her expression was icy cold.
“Are you an elf too? Hmph, since you’re not a slave, I guess you can do as you please?”
“Look at that face, so fierce, it might be tasty.”
At the knights’ lewd taunts, Hera clenched her teeth.
She reached out and grasped at the empty air.
Light gathered in the void, and soon a bow appeared in Hera’s hand.
The process had emerged under the certainty of holding the bow.
“Hey, where did you get that…!”
“Run, you idiot!”
The knights turned to flee, and at the same time, Hera drew the bowstring.
Light gathered and slowly formed into an arrow.
‘Control your strength….’
It must not be too strong.
Otherwise, this mansion could collapse.
Swoosh-!
As Hera released the bowstring, the arrow was shot.
The arrow, aimed at the fleeing knights, pierced through their armor and skewered the hearts of two of them.
Not stopping there, more than half of the arrow embedded itself into the brick wall.
As soon as she let go of the bow she was holding, it turned into light and disappeared into the air.
Hoo-.
Hera exhaled the breath she had been holding and turned her head towards the inside of the prison.
“Now, let’s go.”
The elf rescue operation was a success.
* * * * *
Gidrick’s gaze shifted from Franz to the mousetrap that had been smashed against the wall, and then back to Franz.
Gidrick immediately bowed his head to the ground and said,
“S-sorry! I won’t do such a thing again!”
“Does saying sorry erase your sins?”
“I-I’ll do anything, just please spare my life!”
Franz looked at the pleading Gidrick and thought.
‘This is so annoying…’
It was because his bulging belly and bald head reminded him of someone.
Someone who had tormented a black-haired Korean in the 21st century.
‘I can’t leave any evidence.’
If rumors spread that the Tower Lord killed someone on a commission, it would be a disaster.
No matter how heinous the criminal, controversy would be unavoidable.
So, no evidence could be left behind.
It was absolutely not because he was reminded of his old boss.
Just as Franz finished his thoughts and raised his hand to deal with Gidrick,
“I-I’ll tell you everything I know, just please spare my life…!”
Gidrick was the lord of a commercial city.
That meant he surely knew a lot about elf slaves.
Franz’s hand lowered again.
“Let’s hear it first. What is it?”
Of course, he didn’t say he would spare him.
