chapter 30 - Divine Cat Mee-chan is also enthusiastic about her work at Quinto
30: Divine Cat Mee-chan is also enthusiastic about her work at Quinto.
After getting out of the bath and changing, I picked up Mii-chan, who seemed to be a bit refreshed and cleaner than before.
When I asked the elderly woman at the counter, she told me that one of the female attendants in the women’s bath had some free time and decided to give Mii-chan a bath. That’s wonderful, isn’t it, Mii-chan?
“Mii~”
The first bath in five days felt fantastic. I was completely refreshed and ready for anything. However, since I didn’t know anyone in this city and had nothing planned, I decided to head to the Hunter’s Guild early.
At the tavern attached to the Hunter’s Guild, I ordered a juice and gave Mii-chan a dish of mineral water.
A cat beastkin waitress seemed to forget about her job as she played with Mii-chan. While I understand her excitement given that they’re from the same species, the muscular man in the kitchen glaring at her was a bit intimidating. Lady!
Ignoring the stare, I started sketching a simple design of a revolver and rifle on paper. I planned to create a weapon for the atmospheric skill. Since it wasn’t a cartridge-based weapon, I didn’t need a hammer, no trigger was required, but I did want a cylinder. If it had a spring, an automatic design would work too.
Before I knew it, it was time to start work.
I dressed Mii-chan in her work outfit, complete with a pink ribbon and lace scarf. She looked absolutely lovely.
“Mii~”
When I arrived at Eva’s office, Mii-chan was quickly taken from me. It seems that the women who saw Mii-chan playing with the waitress protested and demanded to hold her themselves. So, what am I supposed to do now?
“Are you Nero? I’m Henry, the purchasing manager. Though it’s only for a short period, I look forward to working with you.”
“Yes, nice to meet you.”
When one door closes, another opens. Henry is a tall, slender man, about two meters tall. He handed me the list of cores I’d requested.
“Can I leave the cores to you?”
“I can’t handle the damaged ones or those not on the list, so I’ll need your help with those.”
“Understood. Let’s get started.”
The purchasing counter was still relatively empty, but it would soon get busy enough that I’d need Mii-chan’s help. I’ll do my best to be of assistance.
I started appraising the cores in the box, sorting them, and recording the details on a memo. It was the usual process. I handed over the finished items to Henry as I went along. Everything was going smoothly.
However, despite being in a different location, the hunter’s temperament remained unchanged. Insults and harsh words began flying.
“Quiet! Just stand in line! I’m not buying anything if you keep this up!”
Henry, despite his appearance, seemed to be quite passionate.
I worked non-stop until the eighth bell. There were more hunters here than in Quarto, perhaps. There seemed to be more beastkin, elves, dwarves, and dragonkin compared to Quarto. The skill level of the hunters was also high. While appraising, I even encountered a dragonkin hunter who was as strong as two hundred goblins. Incredible.
“Wow, that was really helpful. I can’t remember the last time things went so smoothly.”
Henry’s words prompted nods of agreement from the nearby staff and other purchasing clerks. It seems “smooth” was a relative term; if this was considered smooth, I can only imagine how chaotic it usually is. I was asked to come back tomorrow, and I felt happy to be requested like that. I guess I’ll do my best?
As for Mii-chan, she was sitting on a table with a composed look on her face. Around her, guild staff and hunters, with dreamy expressions, surrounded and admired her.
“I’m tempted to request a transfer to the guild in Quarto…”
“Maybe I should consider relocating my base…”
“Could we recruit this little one for our guild?”
“Mii-chan is just too adorable…”
I hear these unsettling whispers, but I choose to ignore them.
Before heading back to the inn, I asked Eva about the accommodation.
“Thank you for your hard work today. To finish work so quickly—if you weren’t with Pamir’s team, we’d have tried to recruit you. Thanks to Mii-chan, the girls are all smiles. Now, what was it you needed?”
“It’s about the accommodation. Where should I go for meals and laundry?”
“Oh, didn’t Pamir mention it? About the guild-designated inn?”
I hadn’t heard about that.
When a guild staff member is on assignment in another city, the accommodation is free but must be at a specified inn. If one doesn’t want to stay there, they must pay for their own accommodation. Meals aren’t provided, and laundry or other services need to be requested, for a fee. In the case of Quinto, it turns out I can arrange for meals and laundry at the adjacent tavern.
“It really is typical of her to be lacking in explanations, despite everything…”
Haha… Pamir, you’re being called out.
As usual, I left the Hunter’s Guild with the staff glaring at me.
Since I didn’t know any other places, I went to the tavern next to the inn for dinner with Mii-chan. The food was decent. The waitress informed me that they open early in the morning as well and advised me to leave any laundry with them during that time, all with a bright sales smile.
Having taken a bath and eaten dinner, it was a bit early, but I decided to go to bed.
The joy of sleeping on a bed, the relief of not having to worry about monsters—it’s an experience I never had back on Earth.
Back in my room, I brushed Mii-chan, summoned some cat food and mineral water, and settled into bed.
“Good night, Mii-chan…”
“Mii~”
