The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 76 - Inspection

If we really had to identify something that might be related to prohibited items, it would probably be that bag of snacks.

Indeed, snacks can be classified as prohibited items because some snacks in the interstellar realm contain alcoholic or medicinal ingredients, and others have complex components that can affect mental power and brain function. These types of snacks are usually restricted from being sold to those who have not fully awakened, but due to inadequate market regulation, they often still appear in circulation.

As for the snacks Jiang Hui brought, to be honest, many of them were unfamiliar to her; she had just taken them directly from her apartment.

So, when she heard that snacks were restricted from being brought to school, she couldn’t be bothered to sort through and differentiate them, and simply ate them all. The ones she couldn’t eat were put into a recycling machine in exchange for some change, leaving her with nothing.

Thus, Jiang Hui’s dormitory was very clean, with only books, clothes, and daily necessities—nothing else.

A female teacher accompanying the group checked her dorm room, while another teacher in a lieutenant’s uniform inspected her space button. The series of actions was quickly completed, and the instructor recorded the findings in the file.

It seemed they were in a hurry to check other places, as several teachers soon finished their inspections and left, restoring silence to the dormitory.

Only Jiang Hui remained standing at the entrance, still somewhat in a daze. She scratched her head and then turned back to her dorm to find something else to do. Tonight’s events did not leave any significant impression on her.

However, for many new students, this night could be described as chaotic.

That night, all the classes held welcome meetings, and many people returned late, rushing back before the dormitory’s curfew. Some were still awake when their rooms were being inspected.

The next day, when Jiang Hui arrived at the gathering point, she overheard many classmates discussing the inspection that had taken place the night before. Their voices were low and intermittent, making it hard to hear everything clearly. However, she could sense that the incident had caused quite a stir.

So, was it just the new students, or did the entire school undergo a room inspection? It made her wonder if the school intentionally chose that time for the checks.

No wonder many of her classmates, who had appeared so energetic yesterday, now looked dejected and listless.

After an incident like that, who could sleep well? Only Jiang Hui, who had rested well in the mental space and hadn’t slept much at all that night, felt relatively unaffected.

The new students had just gone through a relaxed and enjoyable welcome meeting, and they probably hadn’t settled down yet when the school staff came in to check for prohibited items. It had to be said, it really was a set-up.

Many students were found to possess items that were prohibited or even forbidden: snacks, stimulating devices, advanced functional technology products, specially designed light brains, and even dangerous weapons and restricted drugs.

One could only imagine the audacity of these local students by checking their space buttons. They not only brought conventional prohibited items but even had the nerve to carry dangerous items explicitly banned by the school.

While some had a sense of invulnerability, others knowingly broke the rules and even used concealed storage tools to hide their contraband. But these didn’t escape the trained military personnel, which was why teachers with significant ranks showed up in the middle of the night.

This inspection could be considered the first large-scale check since the start of the school year, and the results would count towards their grades.

Since a warning had already been issued earlier, any new violations would naturally escalate to warnings about warnings and deductions of points. In serious cases, the school might even directly contact the students’ parents.

The new students, who had just been immersed in the novelty of the school year, suddenly faced a rude awakening. The scene turned chaotic, with cries and commotion everywhere.

Nearby, the older students couldn’t help but reflect on their own experiences upon hearing the familiar noises. They thought about their naive selves from years ago and felt a sense of nostalgia. “Good luck, kids,” they might have thought. “You still have a long way to go.”

Their discussions didn’t last long. Soon, the class instructors, teachers, and relevant staff arrived, filling the front rows, while large groups of new students crowded the area, making the whole gathering spot feel very full.

Before long, the students were taken to their respective testing locations for the evaluations.

Jiang Hui noticed that the military program students were specifically separated and taken to a location resembling a large gymnasium. As soon as she entered, she was greeted by a sea of white. Individuals in white uniforms, who looked like medical or laboratory personnel, moved solemnly through the space. The entire venue was eerily quiet, creating an intimidating atmosphere.

Once in the venue, students from different programs and classes lined up in order for their mental strength tests.

The order of testing was determined by program, class, and student number. When called, each person walked up to the testing machine for their evaluation. The device appeared to be a specialized mental strength testing tool, which looked a bit strange. It consisted of a wide, thick rod standing upright in the center, with a peculiar base at the bottom. In the middle and upper part of the rod were scales and a screen that were difficult to comprehend. The only recognizable feature was the scale indicator at the top.

The speed of this machine’s testing was much faster than the large comprehensive testing machines Jiang Hui had used in the hospital before.

She watched as each person in front of her stepped up, stood for a short while, and then moved on to register with the teacher after completing the test.

Soon, it was Jiang Hui’s turn.

“Student, just step onto the collection machine, stand straight, and look straight ahead. Yes… just like that… relax! This is just a wavelength emitted by the machine, meant to stimulate the expansion of your mental strength, so don’t resist at first.”

At first, Jiang Hui didn’t feel much of anything, but soon she began to sense the so-called electric wave.

It was a bit strange; it felt as though a fork were pressed against her cerebral cortex, lightly poking and scratching it repeatedly. This sensation made her very uncomfortable, and she sensed an unbearable sharp pain in her cranial brain region.

“Relax, relax, please… you’re too tense,” said the lab technician conducting the test, speaking gently. “This electric wave won’t harm your brain. If you stay this tense, the test will be inaccurate, and the mental strength evaluation will be less effective.”

However, Jiang Hui didn’t understand why the technician kept urging her to relax. She felt like she was already quite relaxed, but the electric wave still felt like it was piercing her cerebral cortex. For some reason, it just wasn’t getting through, which left her feeling quite puzzled.

After several attempts at the test without success, the classmates behind her started to notice her unusual movements and the prolonged duration of her turn, prompting some to quietly discuss her situation.

But Jiang Hui didn’t have the time to listen to what they were saying about her. In an effort to reach the relaxed state the technician had described, she exerted all her strength, sweating profusely, but still failed to complete the test.

“What’s going on here?” a puzzled voice asked.
