Chapter 77 - Medical Office Therapist
The newcomer was a refined-looking, tall young man, dressed in a white uniform that matched those of the personnel present. However, the identification badge hanging around his neck had a different appearance from the staff who had been testing her, featuring a red border.
Jiang Hui focused her attention to get a better look, but the newcomer moved too quickly as he approached, flipping his badge over in one swift motion. She only managed to catch a glimpse of the words “Medical Office.”
The staff member who had been testing Jiang Hui seemed to breathe a sigh of relief upon seeing the newcomer and proceeded to explain her situation to him.
After glancing at her file, the newcomer appeared thoughtful as he assessed Jiang Hui.
As the chatter from the students in the waiting area grew louder, the newly arrived staff member said to Jiang Hui, “Please follow me.”
Things were developing into a situation she least wanted to see.
Jiang Hui glanced at the gossiping classmates behind her and then at the machine that had failed to detect her mental strength. With no other options, she resigned herself to follow the staff member, who seemed to be of a higher rank.
Jiang Hui initially wanted to remind him that she had come for the test under the supervision of her class instructor, who should still be waiting outside. However, the staff member turned and led her directly to Stark, her class instructor, and explained her situation.
Stark, like the other instructors, was waiting outside for the students to finish their tests before leading them to their respective training locations.
However, instead of the other students, he found Jiang Hui being escorted out individually. He frowned and asked first, “What’s going on?”
She wondered the same thing… Jiang Hui thought to herself.
Fortunately, the staff member spoke up for her, explaining that the girl’s brain activity showed some abnormalities and that she needed to be taken to the medical office for a more thorough examination.
Stark furrowed his brows, and a hint of concern flickered in his eyes, but he ultimately told Jiang Hui, “Go ahead. If everything checks out after the examination, come find me in Area SI2.”
Then, Jiang Hui was taken away under the watchful eyes of everyone, heading to the school medical office.
On the way, as they talked, Jiang Hui learned that this staff member was actually a licensed therapist from the medical office. No wonder Stark had been so at ease letting him take her directly.
The therapist seemed worried that Jiang Hui was too anxious, so he occasionally chatted with her about how the new school year was going.
In truth, Jiang Hui wasn’t very nervous at all. It wasn’t a big deal; she hadn’t done anything wrong, and she had encountered stranger situations before. However, being taken away by the school doctor in front of everyone felt too conspicuous, and she figured that all the students in her grade must have seen it.
School is a small world, and Jiang Hui would bet that those students would soon find ways to inquire about her situation, speculating and imagining various scenarios about what had happened today.
She wasn’t afraid of this, but Jiang Hui was just there to attend school. Getting inadvertently swept up in some kind of public opinion storm would be incredibly annoying.
Jiang Hui couldn’t worry about all those things any longer; she forced herself to forget the chaotic thoughts and focused on the current situation. She was quite eager to know what problem she was facing.
The school medical office was quite large, resembling the decor of a hospital, with several rooms partitioned off. From where she was, she could see various medical instruments of all sizes inside.
The school doctor first motioned for Jiang Hui to sit down, then turned to retrieve a device that looked like a full-head VR simulator. He placed it on her head, covering her eyes completely.
Once she put it on, she felt as if her entire visual field and the surrounding area were exposed to a blinding white light, and her brain seemed to react slightly to this intense brightness.
Suddenly, amid the white light, a shadow rushed out from the center. Jiang Hui instinctively tried to back away but forgot that she was sitting down. Her attempt to retreat caused her to lean back in her seat.
She felt someone firmly support her neck with a strength that left no room for doubt, preventing her from continuing to lean back.
With her escape route blocked, Jiang Hui could only watch helplessly as the black shadow surged straight toward her brow.
At that moment, it felt as if the heavens had rumbled and the earth had shaken; numerous past events floated by like images, leaving trails of light. Jiang Hui seemed to be immersed in an indescribable, strange realm, and the internal power she had kept hidden began to flow out unconsciously.
She hadn’t even realized when the device on her face had been removed; she was still immersed in the bizarre light and shadows until someone gently called her name.
Jiang Hui seemed to awaken from a dream, instinctively questioning, “Huh?”
“Jiang, how are you feeling?”
Jiang Hui was startled to find that her back was drenched in cold sweat, and she felt completely drained, as if she had just undergone extreme high-oxygen training.
“What was that just now?” Jiang Hui asked, trying to calm herself.
The doctor handed her a cup of water. It had a slightly sweet taste, though she couldn’t tell what was added to it. After gulping it down, she felt much more relaxed, and the sensation of her brain being violently stirred began to ease.
“That was a cerebral oscillation frequency device, specifically designed to test closed cerebral domains. There may be some discomfort during the process, but there’s no need to worry. Its effects on the cerebral domain are quite positive, and it’s very effective for detecting internal mental domains.”
The doctor went on about frequency devices, closed cerebral domains, and positive effects, but Jiang Hui couldn’t quite grasp it all. However, one thing was clear to her: her cerebral domain seemed to be different from others.
Well, she already knew that it had to be different. After all, Jiang Hui’s mind housed a mental space that could manifest for twenty-four hours.
Such things were so bizarre that they were unheard of not only on Blue Star but even in the star realms, completely defying scientific understanding. So, it was only normal for her brain to be different from the norm, right?
“Before I forget to introduce myself, I am Lu Jin, the therapist from the medical office. Jiang, you may have heard my name before.”
Jiang Hui did indeed know that name; or rather, she had already heard it.
Lu Jin.
Wasn’t that the name of the therapist that Michael had mentioned to her before?
“Jiang Hui, the teacher has already informed me about you and sent over your medical records. I’ve also done a preliminary analysis of your health condition… You don’t mind, do you?”
Mind? What was there to mind? The doctor was taking the time to do this for her. Michael had also sought her consent earlier, and Jiang Hui had simply nodded without thinking much of it.
Who would have thought the world was so small? She didn’t even have to find time to seek out Lu Jin; they ran into each other on the very first day of school. Wasn’t that a coincidence?
