Chapter 79 - Dan? Tang!
Jiang Hui was finally led away by Instructor Stark, who asked Lu Jin a series of questions, seeming even more anxious than Jiang Hui herself.
Lu Jin didn’t ask much in return; he explained things to Instructor Stark in even greater detail, which gave Jiang Hui the impression that Stark was the one in charge.
In the end, Lu Jin took Jiang Hui’s report, saying he would send it to the public inspection area to avoid any impact on her records. He told Jiang Hui to come back to the medical office for further examination when she had time to discuss treatment options, then left.
Only Jiang Hui and Stark were left together.
Stark maintained his serious demeanor, and even his smiles seemed restrained. The nearly oppressive atmosphere made Jiang Hui feel slightly tense.
Moreover, she couldn’t understand why he was so concerned about her situation; he didn’t seem like the type to be this detailed.
After walking behind him for a while, Jiang Hui suddenly heard him stop and say, “Your father was just like you in the past.”
Jiang Hui froze. This was… her father? The father of the original body?
Instructor Stark knew the original body’s father?
“You don’t recognize me, which is normal. I only saw you once when you were a month old, and I didn’t expect that the next time I’d see you would be over ten years later.” The foolish man who used to boast about his child is no longer around.
Stark couldn’t help but adjust his hat, the veins on his hands bulging, but he still stood tall and straight.
Jiang Hui’s father’s friend… friend… Suddenly, Jiang Hui remembered the military record book that repeatedly mentioned a comrade named “Dan,” who seemed to have a close relationship with her father.
Instructor Stark’s name is Tang Stark; they shouldn’t be the same person, right?
The more she thought about it, the more curious she became, and she couldn’t help but ask tentatively, “Dan?”
Stark’s hand on the brim of his hat paused for a moment, and he finally turned around and said, “You should call me Uncle Tang. That stupid father of yours has been getting it wrong all these years. He can’t even pronounce a name properly, and now he’s got you doing the same.”
Jiang Hui was taken aback by the scolding. She only wanted to test it, and it turned out to be true. Moreover, that was the name written by her father, and she didn’t know if it was wrong or not…
But now she finally understood that Instructor Stark was an old acquaintance of her father, and was indeed the comrade “Dan” repeatedly mentioned in the military record book.
After leaving Lu Jin, Jiang Hui couldn’t help but marvel at how small the world is. She had just run into an old friend of her parents’ generation, even though the original body had only “met” this person once when she was a month old.
“Alright, I’ll deal with your issues later. You need to go train now; you’ve already delayed too long.” After uncovering their relationship, Stark seemed to become less polite with Jiang Hui, more casual but also stricter, causing Jiang Hui to feel a bit tense.
“Also, at school, you should call me Teacher Stark or Instructor.” He said this seemingly without any mercy. So… does that mean she should call him ‘uncle’ outside of school?
After that, Jiang Hui didn’t receive any more responses from Uncle Tang. He hurriedly led her through various areas of the campus, eventually arriving at the training ground for Class 89983-2.
The people there had been waiting for a long time; actually, it couldn’t be said they were waiting. Instructor Stark had arranged for the students to stand at attention in military posture.
As for whether anyone had slacked off, that was about to be revealed. Stark left Jiang Hui off to the side and began reviewing the video recordings. He called out the names of a dozen or so students, many of whom displayed surprised and guilty expressions when their names were called. These were the ones who had subtly moved their hands and feet while standing at attention.
Even those who had only slightly moved a finger were caught, with not a single person escaping unscathed.
“You all, no matter how small the movement, if you moved at all just now, you’ll run ten laps. If you moved more than five times, it’ll be doubled on top of that. How much you run is up to you to decide. But if you run less, you’ll know in your hearts how many laps you really need to do; I don’t think I need to emphasize that again.”
The track around this playground is at least 2,000 meters, so ten laps would be 20 kilometers, and fifty laps doubled would be 200 kilometers… This pace is enough to run someone to death.
Generally, the tracks at elementary academies are only about 200 meters long, and the standard running distance is about 20 to 30 kilometers. If a student can run 50 kilometers, that’s already considered pushing them to their limits. However, the people present couldn’t imagine that 50 kilometers might only be the beginning at this intermediate academy; they could hardly fathom how much harsher things would get from here.
Thus, even though they felt a sense of dread and fear toward Instructor Stark, they couldn’t help but quietly protest the grievance in their hearts.
“Is 200 kilometers even possible for a person?”
“I didn’t even move just now! I just had something fall on my face and it blinded me for a moment, I just instinctively shook it off…”
“Am I going to die after this? My parents sent me to school to learn how to operate mechas, not to run laps.” Come on, you can speak a bit louder than that.
“What the heck is going on? Is this deliberate torture?” Are you brave enough to keep your voice down?
…
The group of rule-breaking students was very dissatisfied with this decision and began murmuring amongst themselves, saying all sorts of things. Seeing that Stark didn’t say anything, they became even bolder, and their voices grew slightly louder.
Uh… from Jiang Hui’s perspective, she felt completely stiff and didn’t dare to move, because in her line of sight, she could see Stark’s hands clenched into fists behind his back, veins bulging, and his emotions were not as calm as he appeared on the surface.
Did these people really want to keep talking? Was it not madness to go against a teacher like this?
“Did I tell you to move? What did I say when I told you to step away just now? Did you think I wouldn’t notice you breaking the rules and moving around at will? Now that you’ve been caught, you naturally have to pay the price; there’s nothing more to say. I actually find it quite amusing that you all have so many objections…”
Everyone immediately froze, not because of Stark’s nonchalant words, but because he stood there with one hand behind his back, glaring at them. A fierce killing intent, honed on the battlefield amid gunfire and chaos, surged toward them without reservation this time, rather than the previous feeling of a reserved warning.
“I’ve said it before: if you want to learn in my class, you must follow my rules. If any of you have objections or dissatisfaction, you can pack your things and get out right now. As for whether you can find another class to accept you, that’s your own problem. In any case, if you don’t want to do this, don’t disturb the other students here.”
His cold and harsh words struck down like a hammer, making all the students in Class Two feel a chill in their hearts. This time, it was not a tentative attitude mixed with luck, but true reverence.
Because at that moment, they truly felt from this instructor a killing intent that could only be born from the depths of blood, tears, and gunpowder.
