The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 80 - Hungry

After saying that, Stark simply ignored the group of audacious kids and turned to the remaining students who were startled into inaction by the commotion. He kindly instructed them to sit down on the ground and rest for fifteen minutes.

Then it was time to deal with Jiang Hui.

Jiang Hui was very sensitive. Based on her brief experience with this instructor Stark, he was someone who placed great importance on rules and pursued fairness and justice.

Although Jiang Hui was taken away from the testing site due to unavoidable circumstances and did not know she had become what was called an “internal-closure brain domain,” she had indeed been absent during that time. She was uncertain whether she had delayed everyone, but given Stark’s style, it was unlikely that she could nonchalantly return to the group and continue training.

Maybe… could it be that she would be grouped with those people over there?

“It seems you’ve gotten quite familiar with my style. That’s good. Now, go ahead, run according to the standard of one hundred kilometers; run as much as you can, but don’t let me catch you slacking off. And don’t worry, if any of you pass out… I’ll make sure to carry you back safely. I won’t make you sleep outside in the wind and rain for a night.”

Jiang Hui: …

What could she do? Of course, she could only accept it. She really didn’t want to challenge this instructor; she had a feeling the outcome would be quite disastrous.

Oh my god, one hundred kilometers… not one hundred meters. In Jiang Hui’s past life on Blue Star, she couldn’t even run a thousand meters without losing her breath, and running eight hundred meters left her gasping. It was hard to imagine that she now had to challenge herself to run a hundred times that distance. This couldn’t possibly be the final destination of her interstellar battle, could it?

Reluctantly, the group of rebellious kids who had just been beaten into submission headed towards the track, and Jiang Hui had no choice but to follow. Only a handful of obedient lucky ones remained behind, trembling in place.

Although they seemed to have escaped this round of punishment, after witnessing Instructor Stark’s style, they all had a bad feeling. Watching their classmates, who were wilted and preparing to push themselves to run dozens of kilometers, they didn’t feel any schadenfreude; instead, there was a shared sense of sorrow for the unfortunate rabbits.

Thus, the first day of military training passed amid silent cries of despair. And this was only the first day!

Sure enough, even with Jiang Hui’s current interstellar physique, she had never run more than twenty kilometers and collapsed on the spot from exhaustion. When she regained consciousness, she found herself being treated in a medical tent set up for new students at the school.

The school had provided small beds for the poor kids who had fainted, ensuring they didn’t have to lie on the ground. Looking around, Jiang Hui felt her scalp tingle as she saw many people lying closely together. These people couldn’t have also passed out from the training, could they? The intensity of this military training seemed excessive.

As soon as she woke up, a nurse immediately pushed a cart over to her, efficiently taking her basic health measurements and forcing a large cup of rehydration salt tea into her hands to quickly replenish the fluids and energy she had lost during training.

“This student, the bell has already rung; military training is over. Students who have been notified to come to the medical tent by their instructors do not need to report back to the original training site. Go back, get some rest, and eat well. Just make sure to report to the training ground on time tomorrow.”

It sounded quite humane, didn’t it? But Jiang Hui couldn’t feel happy about it at all. What awaited her tomorrow? She couldn’t possibly have to run the remaining eighty kilometers, could she? If that was the case, she’d rather die—

“Student, student. How are you feeling? Do you need some more energy-replenishing medication? You look a bit pale.”

It was more like she was scared white.

Jiang Hui shook her head and said she was fine, just a little hungry.

The gentle female nurse sighed in relief and smiled at Jiang Hui, saying, “Then you should hurry to the cafeteria to eat. If you’re late, there won’t be much food left. Make sure to eat well; your physical indicators are slightly below par.”

She glanced at the data on Jiang Hui’s report and handed her a quick-acting energy replenishment liquid.

Seeing that more people in the medical tent were gradually waking up, Jiang Hui decided she should hurry to the cafeteria and eat her fill while she could. After all, if she was going to die, she might as well die as a hungry ghost, right?

With that thought in mind, she quickly got up, tidied herself up, and headed towards the cafeteria.

At dinner time, Jiang Hui, who was usually picky, couldn’t help but order two meals, spending double the usual cost. As she ate, she couldn’t help but think that if this was the amount and cost of meals in the future, she shouldn’t end up eating herself into poverty, right?

She had run all day and felt utterly exhausted on the way back; her hands and feet felt almost foreign to her. Other than her mind still being somewhat clear, all she wanted was to rush back to her comfortable big bed and sleep well.

Unfortunately, the journey back was long and tedious. Jiang Hui finally experienced the true hardship of how far the dormitory was from the teaching area. Was it going to be like this all the time in the future?!

In the end, she returned to the dormitory just as it was getting dark.

Some might say that it was only six o’clock when it got dark, and it didn’t take long… However, military training ended at four in the afternoon, meaning she had spent nearly two hours getting back to the dormitory.

Once back in her dorm, Jiang Hui set a few enhanced alarms for herself, just in case she slept so deeply that she would miss an entire twenty-four hours.

But “when it rains, it pours.” Just as she feared, that was exactly what happened.

She finally got a good sleep but woke up feeling dizzy and lightheaded from hunger, almost fainting from it.

How long had she slept? Could it have been ten days? How could she be this hungry…? She felt like she was starving, and the lower part of her stomach didn’t even feel like her own anymore.

Jiang Hui felt her ability to think slipping away and instinctively wanted to get up and run to the kitchen. She didn’t even consider whether she was at her home in the Fourth Ring of the Interstellar or in the school dormitory, or even in a mental space… Did this place even have a kitchen? All she wanted was to dig up something edible to fill her stomach.

Perhaps it was because she was too hungry, but Jiang Hui felt weak in her legs. The lights and shadows around her flickered, and she lost her sense of distance. After taking a few steps, she fell down hard. Driven by that overwhelming hunger, she struggled to get back up and move a few more steps until she finally felt she had crawled to a somewhat familiar place.

Fortunately, her instinctive awareness of this place was quite strong. Following her instincts, she rummaged around and pulled out a bag of something unknown. With a quick tug, she tore it open, and the contents, along with a fragrant aroma, spilled out. The enticing smell wafted up to her nose, intensifying the ache in her stomach. Ignoring everything, she started scooping the food off the ground and stuffing it into her mouth.

Delicious! So good!

Jiang Hui stuffed four or five handfuls into her mouth, and the terrifying sensation of seeing stars finally dissipated a bit, but she still looked very weak.

But she was still so hungry…
