Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Regret
"I can't do anything to you, but if you dare to do it, you should own up to it! Our Young Master is waiting outside to see you. Come with me," Chen Peng said coldly, wasting no time with Yan Yongqing. After all, Shang Yunyan was still waiting, and Chen Peng didn't like to keep his Young Master waiting for long. With that, he turned and walked away.
From inside the bank, Yan Yongqing caught a glimpse of Shang Yunyan standing by the Rolls-Royce, dressed impeccably in a sharp suit. Waves of regret surged in her heart.
As Chen Peng walked away, she hesitated before following him. But suddenly, an older woman next to her grabbed her arm.
"Young lady, that man looks like trouble. What if something happens to you if you go with him?" the older woman warned.
"Exactly! As a woman, you need to protect yourself when you're outside!" another customer chimed in, as several people in the bank tried to stop Yan Yongqing out of concern for her safety.
"It's fine. That man is my friend," Yan Yongqing reassured them.
"But you just said you didn't know him! Is he threatening you?" a bank employee asked, stepping forward to offer support. If something were to happen inside the bank, they would be held responsible.
Meanwhile, Shang Yunyan noticed Chen Peng returning alone. Seeing that Yan Yongqing wasn't following, he didn't bother waiting any longer. He got into the car and left.
Yan Yongqing ran to the door just as the Rolls-Royce drove off, helplessly watching the two cars disappear into the distance.
"Young Master, didn't you want to see her?" Chen Peng asked as they drove away.
"Actually, I didn't. I was just annoyed that she was secretly taking photos of my car and wanted to mock her a little. Old Zheng, the fact that she didn't dare come out with Chen Peng proves she has a guilty conscience. There's no point in dealing with someone like that. I'm just bothered by the fact that someone took photos of my car and license plate. After all, I'm not a celebrity," Shang Yunyan replied calmly.
"Young Master may not be a celebrity, but your looks far outshine any of them," Old Zheng said with a laugh.
"Old Zheng, you're teasing me now!"
Meanwhile, Yan Yongqing stood outside the bank, deep in thought, clutching her phone. After hesitating for a long time, she dialed a number she had previously blocked.
"We're sorry, the number you are trying to reach is currently unavailable. Please try again later," the automated response told her. Shang Yunyan had already blocked her.
Their WeChat contacts had also been mutually deleted long ago.
Yan Yongqing was baffled. She had always known Shang Yunyan's circumstances. During her senior year in college, she had accompanied him to his hometown, a poor village. There was no way he could have amassed significant wealth or resources. Even if he had won the lottery, it wouldn't have been enough to acquire the United Fitz Investment Company, which required billions, possibly tens of billions. Moreover, lottery jackpots had never exceeded 1 billion yuan.
Confusion consumed her. What had happened to Shang Yunyan? Curiosity gnawed at her, and she was desperate to uncover the truth.
That afternoon, Shang Yunyan received news from the law firm. The lawyers from Fangyuan Legal had filed the lawsuit against Ma Yongsheng and the others. The court date had been set, and Shang Yunyan could send someone to represent him, sparing him the need to appear in person.
The news delighted him. He had no interest in testifying in court or sitting through hearings—it was a waste of time and often infuriating. Given his current status, such matters felt beneath him.
Two nights later, a massive fire broke out at the Tianji Development construction site on the fifth ring of Shenhua's capital. Several high-rise buildings and townhouses under construction were engulfed in flames. The strong winds that night spread the fire quickly, razing the entire development to the ground.
Nearby residents were terrified that the winds would carry the flames to their homes.
After a night-long battle, the fire was finally extinguished by 10:53 a.m. the next morning.
Inside the Tianji Development headquarters' conference room, the company's chairman was devastated.
"This situation was unforeseen. But now, with the company's accounts frozen and the banks unwilling to support us, we have no other choice! If we don't act, even our foundation will crumble!" With a heavy heart, he decided to auction off the company's largest real estate project. The remaining funds would be used to sustain operations and pay construction companies.
Watching the news report on TV, Shang Yunyan made a call to Xue'er.
"Young Master!"
"Xue'er, are you aware of the fire at Tianji Development's fifth-ring property? Based on my calculations, they'll be auctioning off the land in the next couple of days. Find out which auction it'll be at, when it's happening, and where it's being held."
"Yes, Young Master! I'll get on it right away. Oh, by the way, the court date for Vice President Wang, Ma Yongsheng, and their group is next Wednesday. I've arranged for someone to represent you in court, so you don't need to go."
"Good. Thank you, Xue'er."
"You're welcome, Young Master!"
With everything arranged, Shang Yunyan returned to his room. He needed to check how much his funds had grown in the Universal Land over the past three days. If it wasn't enough to secure the land at the auction, he'd have to come up with another plan.
"System, how much have my 4 billion yuan grown to now?" he asked.
"11 billion yuan!" the system responded.
Hearing this, Shang Yunyan paused for a moment. Then he looked up and asked, "System, I already have 11 billion. Why haven't you upgraded yet? And why hasn't the Universal Land upgraded either?"
