chapter 5
5: You Should Smile More
When Wu Liang returned to the 11th floor, the previously empty and dim corridor was now brightly lit.
Countless men in black stood on both sides of the corridor, like two rows of statues waiting for him.
“Young Master.”
The bodyguards, upon seeing Wu Liang wearing a Kentucky chicken mascot head, first froze, then bowed in unison, paying their respects to Wu Liang.
“Oh God…”
Wu Liang watched this group of burly bodyguards with a twitch in his eye.
Although he had seen such scenes on TV before, it was never something he had experienced personally.
But now, having experienced it himself, the feeling was indeed exhilarating.
When Wu Liang returned to the hospital room, he saw Yao Shi, dressed in a black and white maid’s long dress, already standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, waiting for a long time.
“Young Master Wu Liang, your injuries have not yet healed. If something were to happen, how would I explain it to the madam and master?”
Yao Shi frowned slightly, looking displeased at Wu Liang with the Kentucky chicken paper bag on his head.
Acting on his own without consulting her, Young Master Wu Liang seemed like a changed person since waking up.
Whether it was his personality, his demeanor, or something else, Young Master Wu Liang seemed like a completely different person, peculiarly so.
“Cough cough, I just wanted to clear my mind alone. If I had told you, you would probably have followed me, right?”
Sensing the dissatisfaction in Yao Shi’s eyes, Wu Liang awkwardly coughed twice and removed the paper bag from his head.
His messy hair was greasy and had bits of bone in it.
“Of course, I am your maid, and naturally, I would follow you.”
Yao Shi pinched the bridge of her nose, feeling a headache coming on, unsure of this completely unfamiliar Wu Liang before her.
She could no longer guess what was going on in Wu Liang’s head, even though she used to be able to do so with ease.
But now, she felt that the young master before her was too mysterious.
“I just couldn’t sleep and wanted some quiet time alone; I didn’t mean to worry you.”
Wu Liang touched his nose sheepishly, knowing it was normal for Yao Shi to feel upset.
After all, she was his personal maid, and his sudden disappearance would certainly have caused her great anxiety.
If something had happened to him, Yao Shi would have been implicated as well.
“You… I’m glad you’re safe…”
Yao Shi wanted to say more but ended up sighing softly.
Well, since Wu Liang had just gone out to clear his mind, there was nothing more for her to inquire about.
And at this moment, Yao Shi had a feeling that Wu Liang might do more of such things in the future.
“Let’s not talk about that now; I have a question for you.”
“In this hospital, there is a critically ill elderly man named He… He Jing’ao… and the ace doctor here is not in Yanghai City… what do you think…”
Wu Liang took a basin of clean water and washed the fried chicken smell off his head, a smell that was quite strong.
He really didn’t know how he had managed to chat with He Xue for so long, bearing that fried chicken scent.
“He Jing’ao? Do you mean to save that old man?”
Yao Shi raised her eyebrows in surprise as she looked at Wu Liang.
This was the first time Wu Liang had made such a request to help someone else, and she had no recollection of this person named He Jing’ao.
Does that mean he’s not related to the Wu family? For the young master to take the initiative to help a stranger is truly… surprising…
Wu Liang wiped the water stains off his face and sat on the bed.
He didn’t really understand the status and power the Wu family held in this game.
After all, there were no detailed records of the Wu family’s assets and power in the game’s setting.
Moreover, in the 17 years before his awakening, he did nothing but eat, drink, play, and sleep.
If only he had been more diligent in those first 17 years, the current Wu Liang wouldn’t be in a situation of ignorance.
“If it is your wish, young master, saving him would be easy.”
Yao Shi spoke indifferently. If it was Wu Liang’s intention, then she would naturally lend a hand to help the elder named He Jing’ao.
Finding a good doctor for the Wu family was as simple as drinking water.
“Then I’ll leave it to you. It would be best if the surgery for the elder could be arranged in a short time, as I’ve heard his health isn’t very good.”
Wu Liang sat on the edge of the bed and opened his laptop again.
He wasn’t sure if it was his own misconception, but he felt that He Xue’s personality just now was somewhat different from the game.
Although He Xue was indeed a pure and beautiful girl in the game, she wasn’t as cheerful as she had just been, nor would she casually strike up a conversation with a stranger.
Was he remembering wrong, or was there some other reason?
“I understand. Since the young master has said so, I will make arrangements in the morning.”
“If all goes well, He Jing’ao should be able to have the surgery this Saturday.”
Yao Shi casually took out her notebook from her bosom and jotted down the matter.
Although she didn’t know why Young Master Wu Liang would choose to save a stranger.
But this was the first time Young Master Wu Liang wanted to do a good deed, and she would certainly do her utmost to accomplish it.
“It’s really reassuring, having you by my side means there’s nothing to worry about.”
Wu Liang shifted his gaze from the laptop and looked at the graceful Yao Shi.
Not only was she a stunning beauty capable of toppling nations with her looks, but she was also meticulous in her work, with an efficiency that was surprisingly quick and competent.
No wonder his mother had arranged for Yao Shi to be his personal maid. Having such a maid by your side meant that even if you were brain-damaged, she could manage everything perfectly.
And when Yao Shi saw the trusting look in Wu Liang’s eyes, her heart trembled. This was the first time Wu Liang had spoken such reassuring words to her.
“No, this is what Yao Shi should do.”
When Yao Shi turned her head back, she had already put on a cold expression.
Like a machine that doesn’t understand laughter, Yao Shi’s face was devoid of any expression at that moment.
“Uh… it would be even better if you smiled more…”
Yao Shi, as impassive as a millennium-old iceberg, elicited a helpless smile from Wu Liang.
Despite possessing such a beautiful face, she seldom smiled.
“Master Wu Liang, you will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. It’s time for you to rest.”
Realizing it was deep into the night, Yao Shi turned and drew the curtains, picked up the trash bag from the corner, and walked out the door.
“Alright then, good night.”
Wu Liang shrugged his shoulders, watching Yao Shi’s retreating figure as he spoke faintly.
“Wishing you sweet dreams.”
Yao Shi said softly as she closed the door.
Leaning against the door, Yao Shi touched her lips gently, wondering if she should smile more…
