Thick Of It

Chapter 30: 30

The chamber reverberated with the sharp, guttural hiss of the basilisk, its coiled body weaving through the wreckage, dislodging shards of stone with every motion. Jason stood unmoving, wand poised. His self-imposed blindness spell had rendered his vision dark, but his radar sense painted the battlefield with clarity—every shift in the air, every vibration from the beast's movements was etched in his mind.

Jason: [with a cheeky grin] "You'd think being centuries old, you'd have learned some finesse. Salazar really dropped the ball on your training, didn't he?"

The basilisk's response was immediate—a lightning-quick lunge, its gaping maw baring venom-dripping fangs. Jason dove to the side, twisting mid-air as the creature's jaws snapped shut where he had just stood.

Jason: [shouting mid-roll] "Expulso!"

The ground under the serpent exploded, throwing chunks of stone upward and staggering the basilisk momentarily. Dust filled the air, but the monster quickly regained its balance, locking its unseen gaze onto Jason.

Jason: [straightening, wand still aimed] "Let's dance , shall we?"

His wand flicked toward a broken chunk of pillar nearby.

Jason: "Veraforma Serpens!"

The stone writhed and morphed into a jagged, angular serpent, its movements sharp and erratic as it slithered toward the basilisk. The giant snake hissed, tail whipping out to crush the construct with one brutal motion, the transfigured snake crumbling to rubble.

Jason seized the opening.

Jason: "Bombarda Maxima! Reducto! Diffindo!"

Each spell ripped through the air, explosions and slashes battering the basilisk's body. Shards of scale flew in every direction, the beast recoiling slightly as the chamber echoed with the force of the magic. Despite the impact, the serpent's hide absorbed most of the damage, its toughness refusing to give way.

The basilisk's tail lashed out, a massive blur that slammed through broken pillars like a battering ram. Jason vaulted over the sweep, landing with a grunt behind a crumbling column. He panted, beads of sweat forming on his brow as he recalibrated.

Jason: [grinning] "Tough crowd. Guess I'll need to hit you where it hurts, eh?"

The basilisk reared back, coiling tightly before lunging with a vengeance, its massive form aiming to crush him entirely. Jason felt the shift in its momentum through his radar sense, timing his counter perfectly.

Jason: "Confringo!"

The spell erupted in a fiery blast directly into the creature's open mouth. For the first time, a genuine roar of pain escaped the basilisk as it recoiled, thrashing in agitation. Jason's smirk widened, triumphant.

Jason: [mockingly] "Finally, I get some feedback. Don't be shy—tell me how that tasted!"

The basilisk's next strike was relentless. Its massive body surged forward, faster and more deliberate than before, a blur of scales and deadly intent. Jason barely raised his wand in time to cast "Protego!" The shield materialized just as the basilisk's jaws snapped shut, the impact reverberating like a thunderclap. The sheer force hurled Jason backward, sending him skidding across the stone floor. His wand spun out of his grasp, landing somewhere in the shadows.

Jason: [groaning, dragging himself upright] "Oh, yes. This is going good . Just fantastic."

The basilisk hissed menacingly, its tail whipping around and slamming into the ground with an ear-splitting crack. Jason scrambled toward his fallen grimoire, fingers stretching to brush the cover's edge. He almost had it when the basilisk's tail smashed down, inches from his hand, cutting him off. Dust and stone debris filled the air.

Jason rolled to his feet, chest heaving, but the serpent was already upon him. Its massive coils encircled him in a vice-like grip, lifting him off the ground. The crushing pressure was immediate, squeezing the air from his lungs. His ribs groaned under the strain, sharp pain shooting through his torso.

The basilisk reared its head, its fanged maw opening wide, venom dripping from its glistening teeth. Jason could feel its hot, rancid breath against his face.

Jason: [gritting his teeth, managing a strained grin] "You're a hugger, I'll give you that. But you've got to work on your breath."

The serpent tightened its grip, and Jason's vision began to blur from the lack of oxygen. His thoughts raced. This was it—he had one move left, one desperate gambit.

Jason: [weakly, his voice cracking] "Alright, big guy. Let's see how you like this."

Summoning every ounce of concentration, Jason closed his eyes and tapped into the power within him. His body hummed as the electricity stored in his quirk began to surge. Sparks crackled across his skin, growing brighter and louder as they built in intensity. The air around him sizzled, charged with raw energy.

The basilisk hesitated, sensing the danger. Its coils loosened for a fraction of a second.

Jason: [shouting, his voice defiant] "Hope you like your steak… well done!"

With a roar, Jason unleashed the full force of his electricity. The current exploded outward, a brilliant cascade of crackling light that illuminated the chamber like a thunderstorm. The basilisk convulsed violently, its muscles spasming uncontrollably as the electricity coursed through its massive body. Its anguished hisses echoed off the chamber walls.

Jason screamed in exertion, the raw power pushing him to his limits. The basilisk's coils slackened, and with a final shudder, it collapsed to the ground, its body twitching before going completely still. The chamber fell silent except for the faint hum of residual energy crackling in the air.

Jason staggered backward, smoke rising faintly from his singed clothes. His body trembled, drained from the effort. Slowly, his blindness spell wore off, and his vision began to return. Blinking, he took in the devastation—the shattered stones, the scorched walls, and the massive, motionless form of the basilisk.

He swayed on unsteady legs, his lips curling into a tired but victorious grin. Raising both hands, he gave an exaggerated thumbs-up.

Jason: [weakly, his voice barely above a whisper] "Yay… victory… thumbs up."

----

The air in the dimly lit chamber hung heavy with the scent of dust and forgotten spells. Jason, hunched over a worn-out piece of parchment, meticulously traced a complex symbol onto the stone floor. Two larger circles, connected by a single, straight line, formed the base of the diagram. A smaller circle, nestled at the midpoint of the connecting line, completed the intricate pattern. As he worked, a low, guttural murmur escaped his lips, a mixture of concentration and a strange, almost manic energy.

Unbeknownst to him, a figure moved with the silent grace of a serpent through the shadows. Ginny, her eyes gleaming with an unnatural light, had been observing him from the periphery .

With a silent, fluid motion, she closed the distance between them. Her hand, lashed out, connecting with the back of Jason's head. The impact was swift and decisive, sending him crashing to the floor, unconscious. Ginny stood over him, her breath coming in ragged gasps .

----

The dim chamber echoed with the faint drip of water as Jason stirred awake. His head throbbed, and the cold stone beneath him did little to comfort his aching body. His eyes fluttered open, taking in the chaotic scene: Harry lay unconscious nearby, the Gryffindor sword still clutched in his hand, and Ginny was sprawled on the floor, her face pale but alive. The diary sat ominously nearby, dark tendrils of Riddle's essence dissipating into the air.

Jason pushed himself up, his gaze narrowing on the remnants of the diary.

Jason: [rubbing the back of his head] "Knocked out by a possessed twelve-year-old. Fantastic. Really doing wonders for my résumé." [He notices Harry.] "Well, at least you had the dramatic showdown. I'll give you that."

Jason : look like my insurance policy work , feel sorry for americans .

He crawled toward the diary, careful not to disturb Ginny or Harry. Picking it up, he inspected the item, his eyes darting toward the faint remnants of the symbols he had drawn earlier.

With a deep breath, Jason placed the diary in the smaller circle of his diagram. He adjusted the lines, muttering to himself as he prepared the ritual he had spent months researching.

Jason: [to himself] "Alright, Voldy. You wanted immortality, didn't you? Let's see how that works when someone else cashes in."

He began the incantation, his wand tracing glowing lines over the diagram. The symbols lit up one by one, and a faint hum resonated through the chamber. The air thickened, the remnants of Voldemort's essence trapped within the diary swirling in protest.

The larger circle surrounding the diagram began to shimmer, and the massive body of the basilisk glowed faintly. Jason's voice was steady, but beads of sweat formed on his forehead as the energy in the room surged.

Jason: "Basilisk magic resistance—check. Ritual stability—debatable. Possible side effects—well, nothing's perfect."

The glow intensified, and Jason felt a sharp pain shoot through his body as the magic of the ritual connected with him. The petrifying gaze , leaving behind the impenetrable resistance of its scales and venomous essence of the basilisk were drawn away. Jason getting one of them .

As the energy settled, Jason collapsed to one knee, panting heavily. He glanced down at his arms, now marked with , snake-like textures that glimmered faintly in the dim light.

Jason: [grimacing] "Well, that's… unsettling. Snake-skin wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but I'll take the trade-off."

He looked at Harry, still unconscious, and Ginny, who began to stir slightly. Jason staggered to his feet, moving to check on them both. Ginny's color was slowly returning, and Harry was breathing steadily.

Jason: [sighing] "You two are going to wake up and think you saved the day. You know what? Let's go with that. I've done enough heavy lifting."

He turned back to the faintly smoking diary and the remnants of the ritual circle, kicking a stray piece of basilisk scale into the darkness.

Jason: "Cheers, Voldy. Thanks for the magic skin. Next time, maybe try not to leave horcruxes lying around where nosy kids can find them."

after having basilik poision on Gryffindor sword . He sat down against a pillar, exhaustion finally catching up to him as he watched Ginny and Harry slowly start to wake.

Jason: "If anyone asks, I just got knocked out. Now, how do I explain this without mentioning the snake-skin fashion statement?"
