Chapter 47: The Midnight Reaper
Chapter Forty-Seven
There was instant silence.
"Yes, boss." He answered and finally broke the silence. She nodded her head though the other person could not see her.
She disconnected the call while she was removing her shoes. Was his name, not Maxwell? The guy she shot by the ear. She was going to frame him for the robbery.
How dare he drug her water and blame it on Ahmet? The coward! She freshened up while taking her time on purpose.
In less than an hour, Asli's phone began ringing and just as she was expecting, it was her father calling her.
"Hello, sir." She immediately answered.
"I want you to find out who dared to rob me. They took away my laptop. Get it back before it gets into the wrong hands. Make sure to kill all these useless men I hired to escort me! However, leave the man who dared to steal what is mine. I'll kill him myself. Now!" He hung up before she could say anything. His voice was undeniably pissed and cold.
She left her room with a smile on her face. Just as she expected, her men did a clean job. She would assign them to handle plotting evidence against Maxwell. She would go to rescue the innocent children and women as the Midnight Reaper.
Once she stepped outside, Markus stood there with his arms locked together. She knew he was going to complain about her being late.
"Your father called me. He said you have a different assignment. You should have said so." He said while she wondered why he was still waiting for her if her father had told him that.
"Good luck." He added before sitting in his car and driving away.
Asli stood there frozen for a good three minutes. Had anyone wished her luck aside from her nanny before? Certainly not any she was aware of.
'He's a traitor.' she reminded herself. She mustn't trust his words. He probably was wishing for her death.
She slid into her car, closed the door with a quiet thud, and started the engine. As she pulled away from the curb, her headlights projected a comforting glow across the darkened roadway.
A few minutes later, she directed the truck into a washing bay, where the sound of dripping water filled the air.
A green motorcycle with a quiet engine waited by a rusted washing machine. She got out of her car and scanned the desolate bay. She removed her jacket, revealing a brown leather outfit below.
She strolled over to the rusted car nearby, its doors partially open, and climbed into the backseat. A duffel bag was hidden in the corner, and she unzipped it to reveal a tangled mess of straps and cloth.
Her hands moved quickly, removing the helmet and mask. She first wore the helmet. Next, she slid the mask over her head, straining the elastic bands to fit snugly over her face.
She climbed out of the rusting car and quickly walked up to the motorcycle. She swung her leg over the seat and nestled onto the saddle. This was the Midnight Reaper's favorite. With a quick gesture, she started the engine.
She throttled the motorcycle, feeling a rush of adrenaline as she raced through the streets. As she rounded a bend, she spotted her destination ahead - and Markus' car had parked up to the entrance.
She revved the engine and rode the motorcycle straight across his path, cutting him off with a fast turn. Their gazes connected briefly, and she caught sight of his silly smile.
It was a brief distraction; she knew that was one of Markus' traits. But then, did he recognize her?
