Chapter 49: Setting them up
Chapter Forty-Nine
Asli's hand was on the doorknob when she heard the sound of a slap. It was so hard and loud that she almost flinched. Who was slapped? She could only imagine. Her adoptive father wasn't going to open his arms and welcome Markus for not achieving his assignment.
"This was a simple task. Something anyone could do and you return telling me, someone appeared and fought you all? How can just a single person fight eighteen men? You included nineteen?" Marco was furious.
"The person seemed to be familiar with your men's fight, sir. He knew exactly which blow to dodge and where his victims weren't protecting." Markus' voice explained.
Oh shoot, she forgot but how was she to know he was very insightful and recording the moves in his memory? Good thing he thought the Midnight Reaper was a male.
"Are you trying to tell me I have a mole among my men?" Marco didn't sound amused or surprised. Did he already know that? He continued to yell at the top of his voice. "I knew this mission was already going to be a failure when I sent Asli to a different one."
A proud feeling filled her heart. She had managed to rescue all those innocent children and women, brought his laptop, and framed Maxwell for the theft. Her night was about to be excellent.
She opened the door after a short knock. She walked, feeling more confident than usual.
"Give me some good news, Asli." Marco snapped his fingers toward her direction.
"Your laptop is here, sir. I went to the scene immediately after you gave me the call. I was able to track who the thief was and retrieve the laptop. However, while he was fleeing, I managed to shoot him by the ear." She informed him while he nodded, satisfied.
"You see what I am talking about? How is it that she is so good yet you can't even manage a simple operation? Was your Villa only training you to eat?" Marco seemed to be hitting a nerve because when Asli turned to watch Markus, his fists were buried behind his back. He wanted to punch her adoptive father, which she was perfectly sure of.
"Leave my sight!" He dismissed as everyone hurried to leave. "Not you, Asli." She stopped in her tracks and turned to face him immediately.
"Did you fetch his blood for some analysis? You can't just tell me you shot him by the ear and that's all."
"Yes sir. The results will be out shortly." She lied.
"Good, now leave. I want you to select new guards for me. The ones I have are useless."
"Yes sir!" She waited for a few seconds before leaving the room.
Since the night was going well, should she not inform Ahmet about his cousin too?
She drew her phone out and sent the message, 'Are you aware that your cousin is betting his life away?'
Quickly, the response came, 'Which of them?' Ahmet's reply earned a chuckle from her.
'Which of them are you close to?' she sent again.
'Which of them am I not close to?' Ahmet replied.
Asli almost pulled on her hair. Was he trying so hard to be ignorant of what she was trying to say or did he have no clue or hint about Markus' betrayal?
'Markus is betraying you and everyone you are associated with.' There, she sent it.
'Why do you care?' His words cut her guts. Did he not believe her? Did he trust him that much? Why did she care? She didn't care! She just didn't like that Markus could ruin her plans someday.
'Whatever!' she angrily typed back before telling herself, 'Go ahead and have your head slayed as if I care!'
She dialed the police contact she had on her phone to also tip them off about the operation another Mafia boss had planned for tomorrow night. "Robbing Laguna Bank my ass!" She yelled and didn't care who could hear her.
