Chapter 13: The Examiner
The next day, Ahcehera joined the troops tasked with escorting the teacher examiners and staff from Xizonrie First Military Academy to Planet 0072.
This mission was of utmost importance, as the planet was the site of the academy's annual field examination.
To ensure the safety of everyone onboard, the academy had opted to use a fully-equipped warship for transportation.
Ahcehera, as the highest-ranking military officer present, was assigned to the innermost quarters of the warship.
Her room was placed near the security panel and control center, emphasizing her role as the ultimate authority during this journey.
She sat by the room's large window, her gaze fixed on the vast sea of stars outside. Slowly, she closed her eyes, letting the hum of the warship settle her thoughts.
The route required passing through two wormholes before reaching Planet 0072, though the journey itself wouldn't take more than a day.
I wish I could rest a little longer before we arrive.
Her mind was restless, filled with lingering questions and the weight of responsibility.
My thoughts need peace... just for a moment.
Ahcehera recalled the novel's depiction of this part of the story.
The examiners can't afford to sleep during the examination. They have to be vigilant at all times, taking turns safeguarding the students.
Opening her eyes, she glanced at the neatly made bed in the corner of the room.
But for now, I should take advantage of this brief window of quiet.
She exhaled deeply, her shoulders relaxing as she reassured herself.
Admiral Stone and Fleet Captain Rover are accompanying us on this trip. Both are more than capable of handling any unexpected troubles along the way.
With that thought, she slipped off her boots and walked toward the bed. The plush mattress seemed to beckon her, offering relief from the chaos of her recent days.
Ahcehera flopped onto the bed, letting its softness envelop her. The steady rhythm of the warship's engines thrummed in the background, a constant reminder of her surroundings.
For now, though, she allowed herself a moment of stillness, her body sinking into the comfort of the bed.
When Ahcehera awoke, the warship had already passed through the second wormhole and was nearing Planet 0072.
Stretching her sore arms, she sat up on the edge of the bed, her thoughts slowly catching up to her.
I should freshen up. No doubt there's work waiting for me.
After tidying up, Ahcehera stepped out of her quarters and entered the main corridor.
The hum of the ship was accompanied by the faint murmurs of excitement and nervous chatter.
Through the observation glass, she saw the students gathered in their designated quarters, their expressions ranging from eager anticipation to subtle unease.
The main corridor was divided into two sections.
The students' quarters were isolated from the teachers' and examiners' area during the trip, separated by a thick glass barrier.
This allowed the examiners to discreetly observe the students' behavior without interfering or being noticed.
Ahcehera's sharp gaze took in the scene. The students appeared restless, some pacing while others huddled in groups, their voices inaudible through the barrier.
"Greetings, Strategist Hera!" A soldier's crisp voice broke her observation.
She turned to see him standing at attention, holding a data pad.
"This is the map of Planet 0072. Admiral Stone requests your review to assess potential dangers."
She took the data pad and activated the holographic map.
The intricate layout of the planet materialized before her eyes, its vast terrain mapped out in shades of green, blue, and brown.
Ahcehera's tone was sharp but measured as she asked, "Were all areas on this map thoroughly explored, or are we working with surface-level information?"
The soldier hesitated, visibly nervous under her penetrating gaze.
"The planet is extensive, Strategist Hera. The time allotted for exploration was limited. Captain Ava conducted a brief reconnaissance and recorded her findings."
Ahcehera's eyes narrowed. While the soldier's answer was honest, it was far from reassuring.
How do you expect us to protect the students if we don't even know what's lurking within this terrain?
Her sigh was almost imperceptible as she shifted her focus to the map.
The holographic image displayed sprawling forests, rocky cliffs, and shimmering bodies of water, but the annotations were sparse.
"Unacceptable," she muttered under her breath, her mind already formulating strategies to compensate for the lack of detailed information.
Ahcehera's fingers danced across the holographic interface, zooming in on areas marked as "unexplored" and "potentially hazardous."
If we don't know what's out there, we'll need to be prepared for everything.
"Inform Admiral Stone that I'll need a full briefing on Captain Ava's findings and any additional reconnaissance data as soon as possible," she said, her voice calm but firm.
"Yes, Strategist Hera!" The soldier saluted before hurrying off.
Left alone with the map, Ahcehera's expression remained stoic, but her mind raced.
This examination is as much a test for the students as it is for us.
If the terrain is as unpredictable as the gaps in this data suggest, we'll need more than vigilance to ensure their safety.
Her eyes lingered on a particularly dense forest area marked with question marks.
Let's hope our preparations will be enough.
I'm finally meeting the heroine this time!

When the warship landed with a low hum that reverberated through the dense atmosphere of Planet 0072, Ahcehera stepped onto the platform.
The faint breeze carried the scent of alien flora and the tang of damp earth, a reminder of the planet's untamed wilderness.
Flanked by five soldiers, Ahcehera was escorted to the main station of the examiners.
The area buzzed with liveliness as personnel coordinated the deployment of students and monitored live feeds from the flying camera bots.
The students had already been deployed to their designated zones, their task was clear: retrieve flags scattered across eight distinct examination zones.
Each zone varied in difficulty, with the most treacherous areas promising the greatest reward in terms of flags.
The examiners and teachers, though slower in deployment, were similarly equipped with weapons and bots.
These flying bots, crafted with cutting-edge technology, hovered tirelessly in the air.
Resistant to water, intense heat, and most forms of physical damage, they served as invaluable tools for monitoring the students and ensuring their safety.
For sure, the live stream during the Joint Military Entrance Examination has already started on Starnet and every move is monitored.
