Transmigration: The Peerless Immortal Husband

Chapter 59 - The Arrival of Changxian Sect

Surrounded by the gazes of many cultivators who regarded them as “trash” and “small fry,” even Gu Yao started to feel the pressure. Thankfully, the City Lord, Meng, soon appeared. Everyone quickly withdrew their gaze and looked towards Meng City Lord and his entourage, with many prominent figures stepping forward to greet him.

Meng City Lord nodded politely to each person, his attitude not overly warm, but this was a matter of status and hierarchy. This level of response was already enough to satisfy the leaders of the various factions. Behind Meng City Lord, many people followed, including Gu Yan. When Gu Yan noticed others looking in their direction, he instinctively puffed out his chest.

“That guy is really here, huh? What a stroke of bad luck,” Tian Feirong muttered irritably as he spotted Gu Yan. “Brother Zhou, who are the others with him?”

The chubby boy glanced over but quickly looked away, keeping his head down.

Brother Zhou also whispered to the group, introducing them, “The person walking beside City Lord Meng is the famous Hu Valley Master, who caused quite a stir before. It’s surprising that the situation became so big, but in the end, he neither found the second-generation heir nor got the disciple he was after.”

Gu Yao looked over. The cultivator appeared middle-aged, dressed in a blue robe, exuding an aura of refinement. There was a trace of worry between his brows, and it must be said, he still looked quite handsome. Two of his disciples walked a few steps behind him, their arrogance obvious even though they tried to hide it.

“There are also a few from the City Lord’s Mansion, powerful cultivators. I’ve only met two of them; the others I’ve just heard about.”

“I heard that someone from the Gu family who came with you is holding the Changxian Sect’s token. It must be that young cultivator in fine clothes at the back.” Although the Changxian Sect’s token hadn’t caused much of a stir in the City Lord’s Mansion, these people had heard something about it. Because of Gu Yao and Tian Feirong, Brother Zhou knew more than most. He noticed that Gu Yao didn’t seem disappointed at all, almost like a bystander, and couldn’t help but admire Gu Yao’s calm temperament. Not everyone could give up something like that so easily, just for the freedom to leave the Gu family.

Unexpectedly, Gu Yao, who appeared gentle and unassuming, turned out to be a very decisive person.

“And those two young ones, the boy and the girl, they are likely talented cultivators that City Lord Meng brought here. They should have been brought into the Changxian Sect together.”

Gu Yao could tell that the boy and girl were around twelve or thirteen years old, still in the early stages of cultivation, but they didn’t seem willing to stand next to Gu Yan. Instead, they occasionally exchanged words with each other, looking vibrant and full of energy.

The girl, despite her young age, was already showing signs that she would grow into an exceptionally beautiful woman. Even if Wan Siqing from Cuiyan Valley stood beside her, she wouldn’t have the advantage.

“Eh? That girl has a Xuanyin Body.”

Suddenly, a voice echoed in Gu Yao’s mind. He had thought Xu Chen wasn’t interested, but it seemed he had been quietly observing all along.

Gu Yao recalled the information he had read about the Xuanyin Body. Not only was the girl’s appearance exceptional, but the most important point was that this physique was very suitable for alchemical training. “So, does this girl know what her future holds?”

Xu Chen shook his head. “That depends on what kind of sect this so-called Changxian Sect really is. The Xuanyin Body, in itself, grows and cultivates very quickly.”

Gu Yao had no way to answer this. He knew nothing about the Changxian Sect, other than that it was a major sect. From what he had seen so far, he felt that the Changxian Sect had an absolutely controlling position over the Tianlin Continent. For example, the discovery of a Xuanyin Body would undoubtedly lead to the girl being sent to the Changxian Sect. The other boy likely had talents on par with the Xuanyin Body. Compared to these two, Gu Yan seemed like a country bumpkin among swans.

Gu Yao couldn’t help but feel relieved. Thankfully, he hadn’t been rash and decided to join the Changxian Sect himself.

After City Lord Meng greeted everyone, he casually walked to the center of the open area, where the teleportation array was located. After performing a few hand seals, a magnificent teleportation array appeared before the crowd. Gu Yao stood on tiptoe at the back of the crowd to watch. For him, teleportation arrays were like magical artifacts; if only there were teleportation arrays in the Star League, it would be so convenient!

However, perhaps they were similar to artificial wormholes, capable of long-distance spatial transfer. But this teleportation array could disregard location and be set up anywhere, as long as the array itself remained intact, the transfer was very stable. Unlike artificial wormholes, which required choosing a proper spatial coordinate, entering an artificial wormhole wasn’t guaranteed to be safe, and traveling through a wormhole was both dangerous and time-consuming.

“They’re here!”

As the voice fell, the teleportation array underwent a noticeable change. After a flash of colorful light, it emitted a brilliant glow and formed a shield, signaling that a transfer was taking place on the other side. This shield not only prevented anyone from standing inside, but also protected the ongoing teleportation.

Just as the shield was fully formed, three figures suddenly appeared within the shield, above the teleportation array. Then, the shield trembled, turning into countless particles of light that disappeared into the air.

City Lord Meng, who had previously worn a cold expression, now showed a hint of respect as he quickly walked forward to greet the leading young cultivator. He saluted and said, “So it’s Senior Brother Yan who has taken the mission. Meng Wei pays his respects. Senior Brother, I hope your journey has been smooth.”

At these words, the expressions of the other cultivators became even more respectful. City Lord Meng addressed the person as “Senior Brother,” which indicated that the other party was a Golden Core cultivator! Furthermore, the person looked so young, which meant that he hadn’t been cultivating for long. Unless he had taken a pill like the Youth-Defying Pill, his appearance wouldn’t remain so youthful. The younger the cultivator, the earlier they would have reached the Foundation Establishment and Golden Core stages.

Even the two haughty Foundation Establishment cultivators behind him, while young, had a solid and rich aura of cultivation. They weren’t any weaker than the Foundation Establishment cultivators present. It was no wonder that after scanning the crowd, they showed disdain and quickly averted their gaze.

“There’s no need for formalities, Junior Brother Meng. Please ask everyone to disperse. There’s no need to gather here,” said Senior Brother Yan, his expression cold and stern, clearly displeased by the attention he was receiving from the crowd.

City Lord Meng quickly responded, “I will heed Senior Brother’s advice. I will ask Senior Brother to rest at the manor shortly.” Then, he turned to the gathered cultivators and said, “Everyone, you may disperse now. If anything arises, I will notify you all separately.”

“City Lord Meng is too polite. We will take our leave now,” came the reply.

It was clear that Senior Brother Yan was not pleased. No one dared to stay and overstep their bounds. A Golden Core cultivator could easily turn them to dust with a wave of his hand. Building connections wasn’t that easy, so the crowd hurriedly left with their disciples, regretting not being able to stay longer.

Gu Yan, who had often suffered setbacks, was now extremely excited. Seeing how everyone feared the Changxian Sect, how even the high-ranking elders were so respectful in the presence of the seniors from the sect, it made him feel proud. Those proud elders had no choice but to obey the Changxian Sect’s seniors, doing whatever they were told. And he, too, was entering such a sect!

“Senior Brother Yan, please. Disciples, please follow,” said City Lord Meng, leading the way.

Senior Brother Yan gave a cold nod, then followed City Lord Meng to the place where they would rest.

Master Fang reluctantly led his disciples out of the City Lord’s Manor. He had brought them here to broaden their horizons, but now he felt a bit embarrassed. This wasn’t broadening their horizons—it was more like crushing their spirits. Master Fang wasn’t the type to care about such things, but even he couldn’t help but envy Senior Brother Yan, a Golden Core cultivator. Despite both being Golden Core cultivators, why was City Lord Meng so respectful toward Senior Brother Yan? It wasn’t because Meng City Lord had reached the end of his path, while Senior Brother Yan still had a bright future ahead of him. It was clear that his position in the Changxian Sect was not low.

A cold snort came from the side. Master Fang lazily glanced over, his eyes half-closed. It was the group from the Qianxue Sect.

The one who had snorted was Elder Gan, but Master Fang only glanced at him before quickly looking away. He didn’t even feel like engaging in an argument.

Luckily, Elder Gan only snorted coldly and then led his disciples away, similarly uninterested in doing anything unnecessary.

Master Fang released his flying artifact, and as it soared into the air, it was different from their previous departure. This time, he spoke with deep emotion: “Did you see that? This is the reality. In Tianlin Continent, even someone as respected as the city lord, or a sect as powerful as Beixing Sect, must bow and scrape in front of the Changxian Sect. Even then, they may not receive more than a passing glance.”

“They behave like this because the spiritual energy on Tianlin Continent is scarce, and resources are limited. Even if someone is exceptionally talented, there is no way forward here, unless they enter the Changxian Sect.”

Master Fang sighed, a sense of helplessness in his tone. He glanced at Gu Yao and said, “Maybe one day, you will regret giving up the Changxian Sect’s token. Even being an outer disciple of the Changxian Sect would be more prestigious than being an inner disciple of Beixing Sect. It would also open up limitless possibilities.”

Regret?

Gu Yao knew that he didn’t regret it now. If he hadn’t given up, he wouldn’t even be able to leave Yuanyang Town. As long as a person is alive, they can still look to the future. Otherwise, how can one speak of the future?

Gu Yao smiled and wasn’t surprised that the academy knew about his situation. After all, it was all public knowledge. He asked, “Is there really no other way to leave Tianlin Continent, except through the teleportation array or by relying on the Changxian Sect?”

Master Fang’s expression grew serious. “There is, but every path is fraught with endless danger. Tianlin Continent is surrounded by vast seas, and the situation on the sea is the most unpredictable and perilous. Anyone who enters the sea has a nine in ten chance of dying, or even worse, never returning.”

Both Brother Jiang and Brother Zhou’s expressions grew unusually grave. Even if one succeeded in Foundation Establishment here, there would be no hope of reaching the Golden Core stage. The hope of reaching Golden Core was very slim.

“Senior Fang, who are those two young people standing beside the City Lord?” Brother Zhou asked, paying close attention.

Master Fang changed the subject. “They’re talented disciples the City Lord’s Manor has gathered from all over. I heard one has a single Fire Spirit Root, and the other, although a dual Spirit Root, possesses a special constitution that makes them no less outstanding than a single Spirit Root. Such good seedlings make other sects envious. But rather than keeping them here, it’s better to send them to the Changxian Sect.”

Gu Yao thought to himself that it seemed others didn’t know that the girl had a Xuanyin constitution.

Master Fang dropped them off midway and then left, while Gu Yao and the others weren’t in the mood to continue sightseeing. They all returned to the inn.

The chubby boy left for a while, but no one paid him any mind.

At the City Lord’s Manor, a guard suddenly approached Hu Valley Master: “Master Hu, someone has specifically requested that this letter be delivered to you…”
