Urban Top Bodyguard

Chapter 13: Section 13: Hu Liang Flat

Lin Xi was stunned, unable to believe Hu Liang could say something so shameless. When they were together, she had basically been the one spending money, and even now, after breaking up, she had no intention of asking him to pay her back, but he actually had the audacity to demand compensation for his emotional distress?

How pathetic! Lin Xi suddenly felt very pathetic, realizing that the person she had invested her emotions in was a complete jerk, unworthy of her tears.

Lin Xi immediately wiped away the tears on her face, stepped forward, and slapped Hu Liang hard across the face, sneering, "Hu Liang, you scumbag, this slap is to teach you a lesson."

Hu Liang was shocked by the slap and after a moment, he reacted, "You little bitch, how dare you hit me?" With that, Hu Liang swung his hand toward Lin Xi's face.

Lin Xi did not dodge, standing her ground, teeth clenched as she stared down Hu Liang. Just as his hand was about to hit Lin Xi's cheek, Wang Yu intervened.

Wang Yu suddenly rose to his feet, with one leg as the pivot, rotated his body 180 degrees, and with a whip kick, sent Hu Liang flying through the air, crashing into a chair as he landed.

"I always thought I was pretty shameless, but I never imagined you could be worse than me. If I don't beat you now, I'm going to explode. You want money, right?" Wang Yu said as he took out a wad of banknotes from his pocket and threw them onto the table, looking coldly at Hu Liang and saying, "If you have the guts, come and take it!"

Hu Liang's nose was bleeding profusely, and even holding it with his hand didn't help. Fear showed in his eyes as he looked at Wang Yu.

People like him are the epitome of scum, bullying the weak and fearing the strong. If you don't show them some color, they'll never understand why the flowers are red.

"From now on, Lin Xi is under my protection. If you dare to harass her again, I swear I'll break your third leg. Now, I give you three seconds to disappear. Scram!"

After Wang Yu coldly gave the order with a gesture toward the door, Hu Liang immediately scurried out, taking less than two and a half seconds.

"Kid, you wait for me, you'll regret this!"

After leaving, Hu Liang dropped a nasty line, but Wang Yu was unfazed; too many people had wanted to put him six feet under, and all had been taken care of by him.

There's a saying, 'A barking dog never bites.' Cowards always leave a threat after being beaten, just like Hui Tailang always says he'll return, but Hu Liang is even lower than Hui Tailang, who at least knows how to protect his wife Hong Tailang.

"Lin Xi, don't overthink it. I said I'd protect you, not just from being bullied, but I'll also make sure you stay happy every day."

After he said that, Wang Yu suddenly realized the last sentence sounded a bit inappropriate, as if something a boyfriend would say, and he couldn't help but smile awkwardly as he picked up his suitcase and walked into the bedroom.

Watching Wang Yu's retreating figure, Lin Xi's heart ached, but she felt somewhat consoled. Although her feelings had been deceived and she was nearly ruined, it was fortunate she met him. He not only rescued her but also helped her see through Hu Liang's true colors. Without a doubt, she was lucky.

Lin Xi collapsed weakly onto the sofa. Despite not wanting to cry, tears uncontrollably fell. Thankfully, she felt fortunate that she had never given her body to Hu Liang; otherwise, she might not even have the courage to continue living.

Wang Yu sat silently in the room, smoking a cigarette, feeling Lin Xi's heartache. Discovering that her feelings had been betrayed was certainly something she couldn't accept at once. Moreover, Hu Liang's cutting words had deeply wounded her, but Wang Yu believed that Lin Xi was not the kind of girl to crumble so easily and that she would soon recover.

At six o'clock in the evening, Wang Yu came out of his room and saw Lin Xi asleep on the couch. He shook her gently on the shoulder with a smile and said, "Lin Xi, wake up, do you hear me calling you?"

Wang Yu deliberately contorted his mouth wide, putting a lot of effort into a passionate smile, hoping that when Lin Xi opened her eyes, his smile would make her feel a little better, at least not so miserable.

Lin Xi's long eyelashes trembled as she opened her eyes to see Wang Yu's exaggerated smile, immediately leaning back and frowning, "Why such a sneaky grin? What sinister plan are you thinking of?"

"Uh..."

A line of frustration crossed Wang Yu's forehead. How did his enthusiastic smile turn into a sneaky grin in her eyes?

"Let's go out to eat," Wang Yu said cheerfully, but while dining out was a pretense, diverting Lin Xi's attention was the real deal.

Lin Xi sighed lightly and said, "You go ahead, I don't feel like eating. I'm very tired and want to rest."

"That won't do. I haven't been back to Shen City in many years, and the hometown food has long since awakened the cravings in my stomach. Consider it as keeping me company, okay?"

Wang Yu finished speaking and gazed imploringly at Lin Xi, looking very hopeful, though Lin Xi knew he wanted to take her out to lift her spirits and ease her pain, which filled her heart with countless emotions.

"Alright then! But I need to change my clothes, and after we eat, you have to come dancing with me."

Lin Xi said, smiling sweetly at Wang Yu before she got up and headed for the bedroom.

Watching her graceful figure, Wang Yu smiled slightly and nodded appreciatively. It was commendable for a girl to be so carefree, and he hoped that dancing would chase away all the gloom in her heart.

"What do you think? Do I look nice?"

In just a short while, Lin Xi had changed her clothes and appeared before Wang Yu. He took a glance and couldn't help but stare without blinking.

Lin Xi's delicate, fair face was lightly made up, and her waist-length hair cascaded down her shoulders. She wore a black off-the-shoulder tee, her arms as smooth and creamy as jade; a leopard print high-waist flared skirt that barely covered two-thirds of her thighs, and a pair of brown high heels with white straps coiled above her ankles, complementing her snow-white skin.

Wang Yu's Adam's apple bobbed, and he swallowed hard, nodding repeatedly as he said, "Sexy, really sexy!" Apart from sexy, Wang Yu couldn't think of any other words to describe Lin Xi at the moment.

Lin Xi smiled sweetly, revealing two shallow dimples that made her look very happy as she said to Wang Yu, "Really? Since we're going dancing, I must dress up a bit. But you..."

Looking at Wang Yu, Lin Xi held her chin and slowly shook her head.

Without her saying anything, Wang Yu understood her meaning. He grinned awkwardly and strode toward the bedroom. Lin Xi had dressed up so sexily—if he continued to wear his faded camo, walking alongside her would be quite discordant, and he might even be mistaken for a stalking hoodlum.

Shortly after, Wang Yu emerged, wearing a black Adidas casual jacket and dark brown jeans, with blue sneakers on his feet. This was the best outfit he had, the best-looking one among all his clothes.

"How about it? Walking next to you, I won't embarrass you, will I?" Wang Yu said as he spun in front of her.

Lin Xi examined him closely and after a moment, nodded, "It's passable, that'll do!"

Even though Lin Xi said it was fine, Wang Yu could still see dissatisfaction in her eyes. However, there was nothing he could do about it; he had returned in such a hurry that he'd forgotten to bring his nice clothes.

"Then, let's go!"

Wang Yu stepped forward to open the door, and Lin Xi walked out with a gentle smile.

Watching her swaying slender waist, Wang Yu swallowed. This girl was naturally beautiful and now that she had dolled up, she was absolutely enchanting. He hoped his self-control wouldn't falter, or he'd be in trouble.

Some minutes later at Karry restaurant, Wang Yu and Lin Xi sat opposite each other. Each had a steak and fruit salad in front of them, and the red wine in their tall glasses glistened under the lights with a dark red hue.

"What did you do before? You seem quite skilled in martial arts."

After speaking, Lin Xi elegantly picked up the silver knife and fork, cutting off a small piece of steak to slowly chew, her movements graceful and practiced. It seemed she was a regular at Western restaurants.

Wang Yu smiled slightly, took a sip of wine from his tall glass, and after putting it down, he said with a smile, "I'm not that skilled, just know a bit of rudimentary kung fu. When you're out and about in society, you need to learn some self-defence to ensure you can protect yourself from harm."

Lin Xi nodded gently, her eyes shifting before she said softly, "Then can you teach me? That way I won't be afraid of anyone bullying me."

"There's no need—for I'm by your side, and no one will bully you." Wang Yu finished speaking with a smile, picked up his knife and fork to scrutinise the steak in front of him, but he hesitated to cut into it.

As for Western food, Wang Yu disliked it as much as one possibly could. When he was abroad, eating Western food almost made him sick.

He had planned to take Lin Xi to the old streets of Shen City for some local specialties, but when they headed out, he had asked for Lin Xi's preference—she said she wanted Western food, and he couldn't well refuse. Shouldn't a man be a little more gentlemanly?

Unintentionally spoken, but the listener took it to heart. Wang Yu had simply meant to say that no one would bully Lin Xi while he was around, but to Lin Xi, those words hinted at something more.

Lin Xi thought that Wang Yu must have developed feelings for her, otherwise he wouldn't have said such things. And because of this assumption, she suddenly felt a little embarrassed.

"I'm sorry, that was too abrupt. I'm not ready to enter another relationship for the time being. I hope you can understand."

Lin Xi said softly, her head bowed, her voice as faint as a mosquito's, her cheeks flushed with red.

Wang Yu had been eyeing the steak for a while and was just about to bite into a piece when Lin Xi spoke up, causing Wang Yu to freeze, fork in hand, blinking at Lin Xi.

After a moment, Wang Yu finally understood the misunderstanding, about to clarify when he reconsidered and abandoned the idea.

Lin Xi had just gone through some unpleasant experiences, and if he hurried to explain, it would surely make her feel embarrassed and sad. Well then, I'll just suffer a little and go along with it!

"I understand; it was indeed abrupt. We can talk about it later."

After saying this, Wang Yu put the steak into his mouth, chewing enthusiastically, thinking that playing the fool wasn't so bad since she was a beauty, after all.

After leaving the Western restaurant, they took a taxi to the Slow Shake Bar. They barely communicated along the way, a situation that had started after Lin Xi's confession.

Along the journey, Lin Xi occasionally stole glances at Wang Yu, while he seemed blissfully unaware, gazing out of the car window and admiring the passing scenery.

After eight years, Shen City had changed a lot. Many skyscrapers had sprung up, and the city's nightscape had become even more resplendent. The bustling crowds on both sides of the road were a testament to the city's prosperity.

But behind the hustle and bustle, there is bound to be some hidden darkness.
