Chapter 30: Chapter 30 : After all we are Siblings
The afternoon wore on, and the tension in the mansion began to dissipate as the siblings settled into their respective activities.
Despite Eithan's carefree nature, a small seed of guilt had taken root in his heart. Sure, Josh had acted irresponsibly, but Eithan couldn't shake the feeling that perhaps he'd been too harsh. At the end of the day, family was family, and they always came first.
As Eithan lounged on a sofa in the hall room with Adi, lost in thought, Ruhr and Albert were in one of the older rooms of the mansion.
The room had an air of quiet nostalgia, its wooden furniture polished but showing signs of age. Ruhr, ever meticulous, was seated on the bed's edge, cutting and polishing her nails.
---
Albert, full of energy as usual, sat cross-legged nearby, watching his sister's careful movements.
"Sister," he piped up in a childish tone,
"why are you taking so long with your nails? They're just... nails."
Ruhr chuckled at his remark.
"Oh, Albert," she said with a soft laugh,
"you wouldn't understand. Nails are important. They make you feel neat and elegant."
She lifted her hand to admire her work, her polished nails glinting faintly in the afternoon light.
Albert tilted his head, clearly unimpressed.
"They're just little plates on your fingers. What's the big deal?"
he asked innocently, wrinkling his nose.
Ruhr shook her head with an amused smile.
"One day, you'll get it," she said, her tone indulgent.
After a moment of silence, Albert perked up again.
"Hey, Sister, can we listen to a song?" he asked eagerly.
Ruhr paused and looked at him.
"A song?" she repeated, considering.
"Which one?"
"Your favorite one!"
Albert said, his eyes lighting up.
Ruhr smiled, reaching for her phone.
"Alright, but I'm not sure you'll like it. My favorite songs are usually romantic ones."
As the soft strains of a romantic ballad filled the room, Albert's initial enthusiasm quickly faded.
His face twisted into a series of exaggerated expressions: boredom, confusion, and mild horror. Ruhr couldn't help but laugh at his antics.
"This is boring!"
Albert declared dramatically, flopping backward on the bed.
Ruhr raised an eyebrow, clearly entertained.
"Oh, really? And what kind of song would you prefer, Mr. Music Worm?"
"Something fun! Something I can dance to!"
Albert said, sitting up with a bounce.
Ruhr rolled her eyes but smiled, switching to a lively party song.
The upbeat rhythm had Albert grinning from ear to ear as he leaped onto the bed and started dancing.
His moves were wild and uncoordinated, but his pure joy was contagious. Ruhr sat back, laughing as she continued to polish her nails, enjoying the lighthearted moment.
---
Meanwhile, back in the hall room, Josh appeared in the doorway, his expression a mixture of hesitation and stubbornness. Eithan glanced up, raising an eyebrow but saying nothing as Josh approached. Adi looked between them, sensing the shift in the atmosphere.
Josh cleared his throat, shoving his hands into his pockets.
"Uh... Eithan,"
he began awkwardly, his gaze flickering to Eithan's face and then quickly away.
Eithan leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest.
"What is it, Josh?"
he asked, his tone neutral but firm.
Josh hesitated for a moment, then nodded as if steeling himself.
"Eithan... forgive me," he said, his voice quieter than usual.
Eithan's expression softened. Despite everything, he couldn't stay mad at his younger brother for long.
After all, he understood Josh's struggles—his impulsive nature, his tendency to prioritize the wrong things. And at the end of the day, Eithan knew that Josh was still learning.
"Call me 'Big Brother',"
Eithan said, a small smile tugging at his lips.
Josh looked up, surprised, then gave a sheepish nod.
"Big Brother, forgive me," he repeated, his tone more sincere this time.
Eithan's smile widened, and he reached out to ruffle Josh's hair affectionately.
"Of course I forgive you,"
he said warmly.
"But remember this, Josh. Always take care of each other, okay?"
He gestured toward Adi, who was watching the exchange with wide eyes.
Josh followed Eithan's gaze and nodded, though his expression remained stubbornly neutral.
"Yeah, yeah," he muttered, but there was a hint of understanding in his voice.
---
In another part of the mansion, Albert's energetic dance finally began to wind down. Out of breath but grinning from ear to ear, he flopped back onto the bed beside Ruhr.
"That was fun!" he declared, his cheeks flushed with exertion.
Ruhr smiled down at him, tucking her nail file back into its case.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it," she said.
"See? Sometimes, siblings can have fun together too."
Albert nodded enthusiastically.
"Yeah! And you're the best sister ever!" he said, throwing his arms around her in an impromptu hug.
Ruhr laughed, patting his head fondly.
"You're pretty great too, little brother."
Back in the hall room, Eithan leaned back on the sofa, his carefree demeanor returning now that the tension with Josh had eased.
"You know," he said to Adi, who was seated beside him,
"family is everything. No matter what happens, we always stick together. Ruhr was right about that."
Adi nodded, his earlier embarrassment fading away.
"Yeah," he said quietly. "I guess so."
Josh, sitting on a nearby armchair, glanced toward the window. He was still thinking about Sarah, of course—her smile, her laugh, the way she seemed to light up a room just by being in it.
But somewhere in the back of his mind, Eithan's words lingered.
Family is everything.
It was a thought that Josh couldn't entirely shake, even as his imagination drifted back to Sarah's enchanting presence.
And so, while Eithan, Adi, and Josh remained in the hall room, the sound of Albert's laughter echoed faintly from the other side of the mansion. Despite their differences, their arguments, and their individual quirks, the siblings were bound together by an unbreakable bond. And in the end, that bond was what truly made their family strong.
" Sarah I will make you my family "
