War Geek Doomed To Conquer

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: The System

Apart from Victor's memories, the other two rewards were fascinating.

First, he received 1000 store points. Victor had no clue what to use those for. The magical system didn't explain that to him. So before he attempted to leave his room, his priority was to figure out how to use those points.

"How the hell do I use these points?" sighed Victor.

As soon as he said that another floating screen popped up. It was a store page. In the top right of the screen it had his balance of 1000 points and in the top left had a tab called inventory with a (1) flashing next to it.

Realising that it must've been his 10-man bodyguard unit summon Victor hastily went to try and see what it was and how it could be used.

When Victor clicked on the Inventory tab it showed this red paper talisman with the symbol of a silhouetted line-infantry man. Next to the silhouette was a small X symbol with 10 next to it. Victor found it easy to understand but was still fairly sceptical and perplexed about what this grants.

Without putting much thought into it Victor casually pressed the 10-man bodyguard unit summon. Once pushing it the screen changed to green and 4 pictured options came up. Each picture showed a unit of formidable line-infantry units.

The corners of Victor's mouth began to rise showing off an astonished smile. Being a geek who was interested in the Napoleonic era he instantly recognised each of the units. There were the British Coldstream Guards, the Spanish Walloon Guards, the Russian Semenovsk Life Guards and finally Victor's favourite out of the selection. The French Imperial Guard. Napoleon's elite soldiers who brought all of Europe to heel under Napoleon's command.

The choice was a no-brainer and without a second thought, Victor pressed the Imperial Guard picture.

Once pressed the screen changed back to blue.

'Congratulations on selecting the French Imperial Guard. They shall arrive in the next 24 hours.'

"Tomorrow will be a fun day," Victor excitedly remarked.

After dealing with the 10-man bodyguard unit summon, Victor turned his attention to the store. The store was filled with ten slots that refreshed every 24 hours. There was a variety of options to choose from, however, with Victor's current funds, there were a few items unattainable.

There were multiple low-grade skill books for tactics, history and marksmanship. They all cost 500 store points each. Then there was a Legendary Commander token that cost 100,000 store points. Finally, there were some recruitment summons varying from servants to soldiers.

Victor being not one to have idle points spent them after weighing some of the pros and cons of each item. After some internal deliberation, Victor decided to spend 500 store points on the History book so he could understand the world he would be calling home from now on.

Then with his remaining store points, he bought two servant summons. If he was going to survive in this palace with no allies or friends he figured he might as well recruit some help. Just like his 10 bodyguards, they would arrive in 24 hours.

With the rewards out of the way, Victor was curious if he had any quests. To his surprise there were none. No simple or tutorial quest it was just a blank space saying there an current quests available.

Victor dismissed this as simply running out of quests for the day and that there were plenty more to come in the following days.

With that in mind, Victor decided to finish his day as normally as possible.

He lingered in his room for hours until the maid who he had met earlier brought his supper. Enjoying a very plain and small meal Victor laid in bed planning on how he wanted things to play out in the coming days.

'I am yet to interact with my cruel family. That will be a hassle and I could even get abused. What's worse is if I act out of character will they suspect me of not being the true Victor.' These were the last thoughts Victor had before he drifted to sleep.

A new day had begun. The ever-rising sun began to seep through the bland and broken curtains. With the delicate kiss of the sun on Victor's pale face he awoke. With no clock or watch it was hard for him to tell what time it was. But it felt a lot earlier than he was used to back when he was Conrad.

Shortly after waking up his usual maid entered with breakfast. Another boring and plain breakfast was presented to him. With little nutritional value, it was clear that he was being neglected the basic need for a well-balanced diet.

If Victor hadn't seen his previous memories he would be confused to as why he was always given simple and small dishes 3 times a day and why he was constantly locked in his room when he wasn't studying.

The answer was simple. Duke Vipon had his perfect family of four. He, his popular and beautiful wife Josephine and the perfect set of twins created from their union. Victor was the black spot in his perfect family.

At least Veronica left the Dukedom to be with her and Victor's maternal grandparents so that meant she wouldn't get in the way of Duke Vipon's picturesque family. They would always attend gatherings together while Victor would always be locked away or studying.

'Dinner would always be held in the dining room for the 4 of them while I was fed scraps in my prison of a room. It's not like I can't step out of this room. It's just I will get scolded for doing so but I guess there is no hope of changing my family's opinion about me.' Victor thought while scoffing down his mediocre breakfast.

"Pardon me madam is it all possible for you to escort me around the palace today? I seem to have forgotten my way around after being locked in here for the last few days." Victor asked politely.

The maid who was cleaning up the plate and cutlery went silent. It was a well-known fact that there was a certain way for Victor to be treated and yet due to his position it wasn't like she could outright refuse him.

"I don't know if I would be adequate to perform such a task Young Lord," said the maid nervously, trying to quickly dismiss the request and leave before Victor could ask her again.

"Nonsense you'd be perfectly fine to escort me today madam. So I trust that you will do well," said Victor with a gentle smile that made the maid nervous.

"If you insist Young Lord," sighed the maid trying to maintain a level of calmness.

And so Victor left the confines of his room for the first time. Dressed in some respectable formal attire Victor began his tour of his family's palace. Whilst walking behind the maid leading him a sly grin swept across Victors face, and under his breath he muttered.

"I guess today is the day I met my accursed family"
