Warlock of Oceans: My Poseidon System

Chapter 143: Seber's Actions

Just as the devotees of the light god sprinted to the back to get whatever this holy water was, the blades were sent flying toward me. And as a last resort, I let go of the strings holding the woman's arm and sent them flying into the air.

[Aether Explosion]

BOOOOOOOOOM

In an instant, the swords disappeared and as the holy ones came back into the main church, they saw me holding the limp body of Seber who was still alive but on the brink of death. On the other hand, I was completely fine, so I kept on the lookout as to why this could have happened and…

"GET THAT GUY! THE MAN WITH BROWN HAIR AND BLACK EYES!"

As if something within them shook, all of the priests and priestesses began to sweat. They darted towards the man I pointed out and restrained him with golden chains while spraying him with bits of holy water that did absolutely nothing. It seems he wasn't a demon, but he could have been the culprit that caused Seber to become a demon.

They rummaged through his long black cloak until a priest finally pulled out a mushy black box with hundreds of eyes and mouths on it. It looked like something that had been pulled right out of the demonic realm, yet despite its terrifying appearance it didn't do much but quiver in the man's hand.

To test out its demonic properties, they funneled all of the current believers out of the church and shut the doors closed. Everybody waited in anticipation as the priests grabbed a vile of clear sparkling liquid and poured it on the box.

For a second, it gurgled, contorting and twisting as if trying to escape from the liquid. A searing sound of meat burning like a steak on a hot iron skillet resounded through the air. But, the box squirmed enough for it to split, causing the drops of water to slam against the cold marble floor below us.

"What… is that?" I muttered to myself while sitting next to the unconscious body of Seber.

"A Loggoth Box," Seber's voice suddenly echoed from beside me and as I took a glance around, I noticed she was slowly getting up. Clearly, she was in pain since she was gripping her head like it was about to fall off, but despite that, she managed to stand up and walk over to the priest. "Give me some of the holy water."

Quickly he handed it over without a second of hesitation and as she grabbed it, instead of pouring it on herself, she drank it. Practically all of the holy ones around me screamed with shock before rushing towards her. But with a single cold glare, they backed away, allowing her to finish chugging it.

"Foooo… Alright, that should dispel any lasting debuffs… You all have no idea what that is, right?" Seber asked the crowd, smashing the empty glass vial onto the culprit's chest, causing him to scream out in pain.

Everybody nervously looked at the man before shaking their heads side to side. It was clear this was something unknown to most as even with all of my years of experience and life, I had never witnessed such an incredible artifact… item… weapon… It was hard to tell, but what I did know was that it was powerful.

The priest handed over the black box to Seber who cringed upon feeling its squishy and most likely moist texture. She then smooshed it in between both of her hands, causing the eyes and mouths to nearly pop out of the box. And with a bit more force, she finally crushed it, blowing a hole open in it that unleashed a massive black mass of eyes and mouths.

Unlike the cubic box, this was a random blobby mess of darkness that squirmed around, yet strangely darted towards the statue of Ser. It opened its gaping black body and was about to devour it if it wasn't for Seber unleashing a mass of golden spears that pinned it down instantly.

"This is a Loggoth. A monster that feasts on inner desire by controlling the person with the most mental trauma. Even if that person has no jealousy, no hate, no anger, no disgust, no fear… it can plant those seeds and just like you saw, within a matter of minutes it all sprung up from within me."

"H-How do we kill it then?" A priestess asked.

"You don't. You can only capture it. It's a beast from hell that the Evangelists of The Undead take advantage of. So, if we want to seal it we need another Loggoth Box."

"Then why'd you break it?" I asked, slowly inching away from that grotesque thing. It shot its slimy tendrils toward me, but with a few nimble moves I was able to easily avoid it.

"Because we can use this monster to our advantage. Loggoths are precious creatures so I'm sure they'll try and retrieve this back. But for now, we can use it to increase our skill level due to one of its innate abilities: [Voidful Growth]."

"I-Isn't that an ability reserved for the higher-ups of the temple? Isn't it so they can grow without much restriction?" A priest stuttered.

"Oh come on… I know you all are done with staying at this level. Don't you want to go higher than just a small seaside temple? Don't you want to grow stronger? Your skills will evolve with the help of this Loggoth and I will make sure it doesn't escape. But, all of you have to make nobody comes and steals it from under our nose. That's all you have to do…"

Everybody looked at each other while I could only keep my eyes glued to the black beast squirming even more than before. It was attempting to phase its body out of the tips of the glowing golden spears, but with a sudden pulse of white, it stopped squirming and even flopped down as if it had fainted.

Slowly, I looked towards Seber who smiled maliciously. She was trying to control them. Before she had the upper hand, but now she had all the control. Nobody was going to go against her now.

"I need to find a way to get my angel core onto my status… I can clearly use aether, but the rings aren't on my status… tsk…"

As the moonlight shone through our beach house window and a rolling sea breeze punctured our open doorway, I sat next to Seber who was relaxing, watching TV. She wasn't doing much as of now and looked as if she had absolutely no stress despite what had just happened.

"What are you trying to do?"

The chirping of crickets echoed outside our humble abode. Yet another sea breeze swashed through my nostrils as I took in a deep breath, ready to ask the question again. But, before I even had a chance at opening my lips, she turned towards me with an icy cold stare.

No malice. No bloodlust. No killing intent. It was like I was staring at a plant. A tree. It was like I wasn't even staring at a real person, but a solid tree that had its roots firmly dug into the ground.

"Is this the real you?" I asked, my lips twitching. "You have split personalities. I hope you're aware of that… you let it slip earlier when you ignored my question. The other would have been the big sister she was trying to be and answered it for me… but you let it slip."

"I'm fully aware," She replied, her voice so cold you'd think an icy wind blew by me.

"I know a few kids who went through that jar and developed split personalities because of how traumatizing it was… but, now that I think about it, you must be the protector. The one that was created to escape from that traumatizing situation."

She didn't say anything but sink further into the couch around her. Her eyes almost seemed to unfocus and she zoned out for quite some time. I didn't disturb her, but after a few more minutes she finally moved and her eyes widened.

"Ugh… my head."
