Chapter 142: Temple of Light
"Huh? Mana core? What's that?" Seber asked, and seeing how she looked so genuinely clueless, I couldn't help but click my tongue.
"Did the org not teach you anything about the mana core? It's not like I created… Its entire presence has been known for quite a while. Well, at least back in our world."
"M-Maybe I died too early for me to learn it, but I wasn't a dog to the organization. I was still a pretty high-ranking member automatically since I passed the jar and everything…. Uhhhh… Can I ask which rank you learned it at?"
"I learned it at the Divine Layer."
"D-Divine… well, that explains it."
"Did you not make it to the divine layer?" I asked, slightly taken aback as I thought most people reached that as long as they passed the jar. You had a clear-cut path to the divine layer of our organization yet you couldn't reach it? What a waste…
"No… I mean I should have been able to reach it… but I died too early," She lightly chuckled but before I could ask any more, we reached a tall white temple. It was decently large, maybe as big as some of the biggest buildings in the small seaside town, but it wasn't like some cathedral. "Let's go in."
"Wait, can't I ask you-"
"No. How about you concentrate on what we're supposed to be doing here?"
"No, I need answers. How did you manage to die if you passed the jar? You're stronger than three-quarters of the entire continent as soon as you pass that."
She paused, glanced down at me with an icy-cold glare, and then reverted back to a priestess who suddenly walked up to us. It seems she knew who we were as she gestured for us to follow, no words needed.
Taking us through the small church, we saw the small benches aligned parallel to each other. Each row had a thick kneeling pad that most people who were currently in the glistening quartz church used as of now.
Hands clasped together, eyes shut so tight that it looked like they were going to get stuck in that position… it was all good signs of faithful followers. I needed them to be blind and have so much faith in this religion that they wouldn't think twice about me as their god.
And due to the information about mana cores that I just learned about and how their presence in this world is practically nonexistent, I knew just what I had to do. First, I needed to give hints, as if I was trying to hide the fact that I was a god and then, once somebody challenges me with that idea, I'll bribe them with the knowledge of mana cores, saying it's a divine gift… or something like that. I just needed to get through this quest and lead an army to crush my family… geez, what a fucking life I'm about to have.
"Sir Apostle, it is a pleasure to meet you," The priestess smiled gently, standing in front of a tall marble statue.
Seemingly carved by the gods and inspected by Zeus himself was a single man. Each one of his muscles was defined and shown intricately with small details. The hand of the person who must have crafted this god incarnated into a statue must have been a genius amongst geniuses.
"It's nice to see you as well," I smiled back, causing Seber's jaw to smack the floor with shock. "What?" I asked, turning towards her.
"H-How come you never smile toward me…?"
"Because I don't want to," I quickly brushed her off before turning back towards the priestess. "Is there anything to drink around here? I'm a bit thirsty."
"Of course, please follow me."
As we headed towards a back room, I grazed my hand over the statue. It was rough and dusty, as if it had been hardly cared for. But, just as I turned away, I felt a gaze land on me. A drop of sweat slid down my brow and goosebumps erupted from my skin.
Slowly, I turned around. My eyes shifted upwards towards the head of the statue and what I saw were two pale eyes engraved into the statue staring right at me. A third eye even opened in its forehead, slowly but surely pressing into me with a creepy stare.
Looking down at my skin, I saw my entire body layered with tiny bumps. Chills shot through my veins like an icy drip of IV fluid. Everything around me seemingly paused and upon looking back at the statue, I noticed the eyes were back in their original place and the harsh stare from before instantly disappeared.

"It's the same thing over and over," I grit my teeth, before catching up with the two women quickly widening the gap between us.
"What happened to you?" Seber chuckled, ruffling my hair as we entered a back room where a few more priests and priestesses were present. They were all of the various races, but the most common one definitely had to be the Fishmen and women. This place was crawling with them.
We were quickly welcomed and sat down with a glass of water and a cup of tea. It was sweet and bitter, creating a perfect combination that allowed me to relax almost like I was royalty… how nice.
"Hey…" I leaned over to Seber having a conversation with one of the priests.
"What? I'm in the middle of something."
"What's your god called?"
"Seriously? You don't even know that?" She turned to me flabbergasted, causing the priest she was talking to try and get involved with our conversation. He leaned into us with a large smile and a welcoming aura.
"Are you talking about our god?"
"Yeah, what's their- mmf!" I was cut short by Seber pressing her hand against my mouth, choking back the question I wanted an answer for.
"Sorry about him. I just need to have a small talk. Don't worry, it'll be quick," She smiled, dragging me out of the room and slamming me against the wall. She nearly broke my back, but before I could even get a chance to complain, she grit her teeth and yelled, "Do not be stupid! This may seem like a happy-go-lucky church but I swear on everything they are fucked up people. If you show any hint of ignorance to their religion this entire town could get turned on you, forcing us to move. And I don't know about you, but I'd rather be here than a fucking smelly city."
"Alright… chill… god damn. You could have told me this before…" I sighed, slowly pushing her away as her grip on my shirt loosened.
"And… his name is Ser. Our god's name is Ser."
"Oh wait, I knew that already."
"Alright, then make sure it stays in that thick skull of yours… alright?"
"Sure… damn… why are you so pressed about this?" I groaned, dusting any debris off of my shirt.
"I'm going to-"
My eyes shot up, catching a hand that nearly crushed my throat. Its strength was beyond imaginable, and if it wasn't for the fact that I used strings to catch most of the momentum, I definitely wouldn't have a windpipe right now.
"You… what the hell are you doing?" I gruntingly asked the woman whose eyes turned completely black and a sadistic smile wafted through her face. "Demonification?"
FWOOSH
Blades of a swirling mass of energy taking the form of a monstrous brown and black fog hung in the air. They all paused for a moment before they could be released onto me as priests and priestesses all came from the back and saw the monster that was once Seber.
"MIASMA! QUICK! GET THE HOLY WATER!"
Just as the devotees of the light god sprinted to the back to get whatever this holy water was, the blades were sent flying toward me. And as a last resort, I let go of the strings holding the woman's arm and sent them flying into the air.
[Aether Explosion]
BOOOOOOOOOM
In an instant, the swords disappeared and as the holy ones came back into the main church, they saw me holding the limp body of Seber who was still alive but on the brink of death. On the other hand, I was completely fine, so I kept on the lookout as to why this could have happened and…
"GET THAT GUY! THE MAN WITH BROWN HAIR AND BLACK EYES!"
