Chapter 6: Chapter 0005: Promises are Like Farts
These sweet words did warm her heart, and filled her with longing for the future. She thought she would be able to spend her whole life growing old with him.
But after witnessing their joining hands in marriage last night, she finally understood that a promise was just like a fart – it was earth-shattering at the time, but became weak and feeble afterwards!
"Jaylene," Alexander Preston called out to her with slight anxiety, and reached out to hold her wrist again, looking at her with an apologetic face.
"You know about my background, and you know my family situation,"
Alexander spoke quickly: "Jaylene, I want to be more than just a regular person. I want to achieve greatness and give you the best life, like that of a queen."
"But, Jaylene, you've also seen it. Despite being educated and talented, we're still far from living in luxury and driving fashionable cars."
"Jaylene, you have to believe me. I have never lied to you. I truly love you because you are worth loving. Besides you, I won't love any other woman!"
Upon hearing his words, Jaylene laughed and scoffed, "If you really love me so much, how could you give up on our three-year relationship to marry a woman you've known for only three months? Isn't the standard proof of love in marriage?"
"Jaylene, marrying her has nothing to do with love!"
Alexander hurriedly explained again, "I'm not lying to you. I married her just to live in luxury and drive cars sooner rather than later. You know she is the CEO's only daughter and the sole heir of Clayton Corp. By marrying her, I will become the future CEO! Isn't that a good opportunity?"
"Jaylene, with just the two of us working this hard, even without eating or drinking, we would need twenty years to live luxuriously and drive cars. By marrying her, I can at least cut twenty years of struggling. Don't you agree?"
"So, Jaylene, you have to wait for me. You must wait for me. In ten years at most, I can take over Clayton Group, and then I can divorce her and marry you!"
"Hahaha!" Jaylene couldn't help but laugh loudly, even laughing until tears streamed from her eyes.
"Wait ten years for you? Alexander, where did you get this kind of confidence? Why should I wait for you for ten years?"
"Besides, life is short. How many tens of years do we have to wait in a lifetime?"
"Why do you think I should spend ten years waiting for you? Do you think that without you, Alexander, I, Jaylene Ziel, would be unwanted in this life?"
".."
Alexander was left speechless, staring blankly at Jaylene, not knowing what to say.
Seizing the opportunity, Jaylene once again struggled out of his grasp, took two steps back, looked at him coldly, and spoke with indifference and distance: "Also, Alexander, don't let your wife hear what you just said to me. Otherwise, she will have your life set back by twenty years!"
After saying that, Jaylene turned and walked in the opposite direction.
Alexander was blocking the side entrance, wasn't he? Well, she would walk into the residential area through the main gate, even if it was a little farther.
Jaylene was focused on running away, not noticing the woman in the Porsche parked diagonally across from her displaying a cold gaze. Obviously, the woman had witnessed the scene between her and Alexander.
When Jaylene returned home through the main gate, it was already past nine o'clock at night.
Just as she entered the door, her father, Randy Ziel, happened to walk out of his room and immediately asked with a dark face, "Where were you last night? Why was your mobile phone off?"
"I went to Alisha's place last night," Jaylene remembered Alisha's advice and followed her lie.
"Alisha?" Randy raised an eyebrow, "Is Alisha a person's name?"
Jaylene realized her sudden slip-up and quickly explained, "Alisha is Alisha Demontes, my high school classmate, who came to our house before."
"Oh, it's her?" Randy finally remembered the classmate and close friend of Jaylene who had visited their house several times.
"Why didn't you rest at home once you returned from your business trip?"
Nancy Scott came out of the kitchen, "You just left the house after dropping off your luggage. You were so eager to see your friend after not seeing them for a week? You didn't miss your parents after not seeing them for a week?"
"Mum, how could I not miss you guys?"
Jaylene went up to Nancy immediately and shook her arm in a spoiled manner, "I came back yesterday and attended my boss's daughter's wedding, and at the wedding..."
"What happened at the wedding?" Nancy sensed something was wrong from her daughter's hesitance, and immediately pressed for more information.
"At the wedding... I met a familiar face."
Jaylene gritted her teeth and finally said, "I never thought that our CEO's son-in-law would turn out to be Alexander Preston."
"What?" Randy was shocked and looked at his daughter with furrowed eyebrows, "Jaylene, what did you say your CEO's son-in-law is called?"
"Alexander Preston." As Jaylene spoke, she felt more at ease and then said casually, "Dad, it's the older brother Alexander Preston you helped raise, he's become the favored son-in-law of Clayton Corp."
"Alexander got married?" Nancy was also surprised, staring at Jaylene with disbelief, "Is it true? Are you sure you didn't see it wrong last night?"
Jaylene couldn't help but laugh at her mother's words. She then said lightly, "Mum, I went to the wedding, and so did many people from our company. Who doesn't know that our boss's son-in-law is design director Alexander Preston?"
"Besides, I might have mistaken anyone else, but how could I have mistaken Alexander? After all, he lived off us for a full four years."
"This child, Alexander…" Randy sighed heavily and then looked at his daughter, not knowing what to say.
"This is so unbelievable!"
Nancy finally shouted angrily, "What does Alexander mean? Half a year ago, he said he would save up money with Jaylene to buy a house and get married. Now, in just half a year, he married another woman? What does he think of our daughter Jaylene?"
"Let it be, let it be," Randy glared at his wife, signaling her to say less since their daughter was already feeling upset.
Turning his head to comfort his daughter, he said, "People go higher, water flows lower, Jaylene, you don't have to..."
"I'm fine," Jaylene interrupted her father's words, then turned to her mother standing in the kitchen doorway and asked, "Mum, have you eaten yet? I haven't eaten yet."
"Oh, we haven't eaten yet, we were waiting for you," Nancy hurriedly turned and walked towards the kitchen, "I've kept the dishes warm. They'll be ready to eat in a moment. I'll bring them out."
"Let me help too." Jaylene followed her mother into the kitchen as she spoke.
