Chapter 22: Chapter 22 Dead Objects_1
Three skeletons and five zombies were fiercely fighting amidst the forest, the skeletons moving like streaks of white light, circling the zombies at an incredibly fast pace. Their bony claws occasionally struck the zombies, each contact echoing a loud "thump."
Xiao Chen was astounded, as he found the scene before him to be utterly unbelievable!
Although the zombies lacked the agility of the skeletons, they had impressive resilience to attacks. The skeletons' bone claws, capable of piercing tree trunks, struggled to inflict any damage onto the zombies, who only flinched in fear when their eyes were targeted.
A horrifying swamp - the showdown between dead beings...
After watching for a while, Xiao Chen deduced that the skeletons were slowly losing their ground. Despite being individually stronger than zombies, they were outnumbered. The odds were stacked against them in a three versus five battle.
As dawn approached, the Corpse Epidemic in the swamp gradually faded, almost entirely disappearing.
Xiao Chen weighed his options, held his breath, and ventured into the swamp, rushing towards a zombie with the speed of lightning. He swung his palms, which were glowing faintly, at the zombie with great force.
"Thump!"
The zombie was forced back a few steps but remained physically intact. The sensation of his palms hitting the zombie was akin to striking divine iron; a vague pain resonated from his hands, yet the zombie seemed immune to any damage. It was indeed a formidable creature of death!
At such close proximity, Xiao Chen got a clearer view of the zombies. All five of them were tall and had fierce expressions, yellow hair, and green eyes. Their clothes had long rotted away, making them particularly fearsome.
The attacked zombie swung its arms mechanically towards Xiao Chen. Despite the stiff movements, it was fairly speedy. Xiao Chen moved as fast as lightning, focusing his attack on the zombie's eyes, causing the creature to cower and shield itself.
With Xiao Chen's intervention, the pressure on the three skeletons significantly reduced, and they soon gained the upper hand. The skeletons were also resilient to attacks, their sturdy frames were as tough as the zombies'. Coupled with their quicker agility, they were gradually gaining an advantage.
Xiao Chen was stunned by the intensity of the fight. Despite his spiritual and advanced cultivation level, he was locked in a struggle with these creatures of death. Although he was injured and unable to exhibit his full power, it was still astonishing to him that the fight had not come to an end even after a good while.
Only after landing the eighteenth strike on the same spot in a zombie's abdomen did he finally conquer the giant dead creature. The massive zombie fell like an uprooted mountain and crashed in the swamp, shattering into pieces.
By the time Xiao Chen engaged another zombie, the three skeletons had gained a significant advantage. They showcased a strength that even Xiao Chen found a tad eerie. Three streaks of white light flitted about, leaving a trail of afterimages in its wake. Their six bony claws targeted the zombie's chest and eyes relentlessly. The speed of their claws was so swift that they produced terrifying sonic booms!
"Splurt!" A bony claw impaled a zombie's chest.
"Crack!" A bony claw snapped a zombie's neck.
...
Thanks to Xiao Chen's intervention, the five zombies were defeated. Half an hour later, the fight ended completely. Xiao Chen managed to defeat two zombies while the three skeletons tore apart the remaining three. The scene was horrifically gruesome and cold, but it was a survival of the fittest.
It was approaching dawn, and the Corpse Epidemic had almost entirely disappeared.
With the three skeletons standing before Xiao Chen, their jaws chattered a few times before they silently walked towards the five zombies. From the broken bodies, they extracted five gloomy and shining gemstones!
The five gemstones were eerily green, emanating a cold aura. This glowing green was absolutely terrifying, especially when offset by the stark white bony claws; it heightened the sense of dread. However, the intense energy vibrations emitted greatly triumphed over the gemstones Xiao Chen possessed.
Xiao Chen watched them silently, intrigued when they offered him two gloomy gemstones. He waved them off, rejecting their kind offer.
The light flickered in the eye sockets of the three skeletons. They observed Xiao Chen for a moment before withdrawing the two gemstones and evenly distributed the five gemstones amongst themselves, inserting them into their eye sockets to absorb the pure energy.
The eerie green glow encased the three skeletons, causing their joints to creak. The glow circulated continuously, seemingly strengthening their skeletal structure.
When the green light evaporated, the skeletons' bone frames were noticeably more lustrous, shimmering lightly!
By now, it was dawn, and daylight was gradually emerging. Xiao Chen was eager to uncover the secrets hidden in this spooky swamp and ventured deeper into the woods.
Initially, the three skeletons followed him silently. However, as they neared the center of the swamp, they abruptly held him back, their cold bony hands causing Xiao Chen to jump in alarm.
The three skeletons seemed agitated but meant him no harm. They pointed nervously towards a dark area ahead, shaking their heads ardently, indicating he should not proceed further.
Xiao Chen could sense their fear; it appeared a King amongst dead beings was lurking ahead!
Not wanting to provoke anything, Xiao Chen retraced his steps but did not leave the swamp. Daylight had broken, marking the beginning of a new day. He thought this place would make a fine defensive spot and decided to make a temporary home in this vile land.
Xiao Chen had faith that the "clues" he had left behind would buy him half a day before his pursuers located him. Some of them might even end up as food for the ferocious beasts. If his pursuers were quick, they might reach the swamp by nightfall, and the swamp might prove useful then.
With dawn breaking, the beach waves lapped rhythmically against the shoreline; morning twilight scattered shards of golden light across the ocean.
The enormous body of the Evil Octopus Dragon rolled and caused large waves in the sea. Watching this dreadful Ancient Ferocious Beast, Gu Luo, the brown-haired man, furrowed his brows. Eastern boats were heading south, likely to end up in this vicinity. If aid arrived from this direction and landed here, they might face annihilation.
Despite setting up a massive bamboo pole atop the towering palm trees with a huge beast skin flag, stained with beast blood to catch attention, Gu Luo wasn't sure if the boat, that was due to arrive, would notice the flag and deliver assistance.
As the sun rose high in the sky, the Evil Octopus Dragon had swam far off into the sea, vanishing into the waters. Meanwhile, two large ships were heading towards the island.
