Chapter 1: The Facility
*Dr. Malcolm Conner POV*
*Location: Three Miles below Alaskan Wilderness*
*Date: March 14th, 2007*
Walking through the pristine clean light gray walled hallway, I was still astounded at how clean this place was. The black checkered floor did have a few stains but that was mostly due to the fact no matter how hard the janitors cleaned, some of these stains just didn't go away.
Well, it didn't matter. The nice brown shoes I was wearing were pretty old already, and I had yet to leave the facility to buy some new ones. However, even then, I probably wouldn't have worn them just yet. Walking a few more steps down the hallway I pushed open the white doors and entered the lab.
The lab itself was one of the largest in the whole facility all built to house and collect the DNA of a single humanoid. The humanoid in question was a middle-aged-looking man with long pure white hair and a large scar across his cheek. They were taller than the average humanoid and their body was riddled with various scars including one large set of three claw marks across their chest.
They were asleep inside a large glass tube with black lines going around it and a set of small spikes all around them inside the tube. I would hope that it would never be used but the condition behind this being's current state was still unknown even after the numerous steps we've taken to try and understand them beyond what his DNA told us.
Currently, though I was one of the few scientists housed in this facility meant to harvest his DNA and understand the specimen we currently had. Heck, technically we didn't have an official janitor but rather a list detailing the dates everyone took turns cleaning, like one big house. Although I have begged our employers repeatedly to send us at least one janitor, but well I understood this place had to be kept a secret.
Wouldn't the Justice League find out we were experimenting on a possible extraterrestrial, and be sent to prison for it. Did I like it, no but from all the data and genetic experiments we've had success on so far it was worth it. Honestly, none of us knew how far we could go, or what benefits this all could have for mankind.
Grabbing a clipboard, alongside a small glass tube that had a needle on the end of it, I placed the clipboard on a nearby coffee table, that had a pen already on it. Going to the side of the glass tube I pressed a few buttons on the side panel opening a small little hatch as a near translucent fog came out from it.
Once I had a clear view of the subject's arm, I went in slowly and poked into his skin having to push in the reinforced steel needle just to pierce the skin. Honestly, we were lucky enough that the subject had weakened due to who knows how long they were asleep. Even then as I got the appropriate amount of blood for further test the very moment I took the needle out, the wound rapidly regenerated.
I shuddered to see this, as I did every time I had to gather more samples because the very moment I looked at the being's scars, and wondered what creature could cause such permanent scarring. Just like always though I repressed the memory not wanting to process the information.
I mean just from what we gleaned from his genetics the being's strengths, speed, and durability were far beyond ours. Even then who knew what other abilities they had we just didn't understand or see of yet.
Anyway, I grabbed the clipboard marking off a few things on it before placing it in a plastic container with a grey chemical label on it. Something I think the company cooked up so people were perhaps a bit more careful when transporting the sample, either through the facility or on the rare occasions outside of it.
Putting it on a small cart, I placed the clipboard with the pen alongside it and began to roll it out into the hallway, ready for today's experiment.
Honestly speaking the current project, Project Transfer I think that what the higher-ups called it, was far more interesting than the previous ones. From what I recall it entailed transferring the abilities of Subect M as they called it over to a human body.
Going through the facility I waved at a few fellow scientists, some of them waved back but a few of them were a bit too absorbed in their work. Well, it made sense, if I didn't have a team to work with I'd be working nearly 24/7 just to try and get any good result or at least a bit more data.
Entering the facility second second-largest laboratory, I was greeted by my team. One Doctor Alena Olson who was our medical examiner and resident experimented on genetics. Next up was Head scientist Rosa Johnson who was in charge of the team, and then there was me, the guy who got the samples and made sure everything went smoothly with the experiment.
Then in the center of the room strapped to an operating table was the human test subject and the star for today's experiment. He was currently knocked out with a few tubes attached to him, both keeping him alive and knocked out.
"Got the samples already Malcolm, faster than usual today."
Dr. Alena said as she grabbed a few medical tools off a nearby operating table and put them next to a smaller one that was a bit further away from the subject, didn't want them trying to escape and tell the whole world now, didn't we? Honestly, though I just repressed days like this, and pretend I'm not also conducting very much illegal human experimentation.
"Well, the company finally got us some decent needles, so easy enough to get the blood samples."
She then took the container and opened it up and put it on the same operating table, carefully grabbing the blood sample and putting a tiny bit in a petri dish.
"This should be simple enough anyway, wanna stay and watch should be quite the show no matter the results."
Honestly, speaking I forgot how psychotic or was it sociopathic either way the vast majority of the facility scientists loved human experimentation one way or another. It sent shivers down my spine. I also knew I wanted to see where this all went, even if I wasn't exactly like them, I still shared a similar curiosity. Although it was possible this was how it all started, just scientists being curious.
Anyway, I just nodded my head while Dr Alena began injecting the blood straight into the comatose patient, alongside a few other chemicals. The man's body began to shake and convulse as he awoke screaming thrashing around strapped to the table, now wide awake and feeling from what I could guess a tremendous amount of pain. Then I saw it, a small growth of yellow hair growing all over his body, well except for the front of his chest for some reason.
While the subject had nice natural short brown hair, it began to grow and change to yellow as well. Then his teeth got a tiny bit bigger and sharper looking alongside four that grew bigger and resembled a wolf instead of a human. It was truly fascinating and nauseating to watch, but truly fascinating to watch and study.
Eventually, the subject stopped concluding and just laid their flat, from what I could see he was still breathing but whatever happened to him had changed him forever. Our Leader Rosa approached the subject with a different needle from the one I used, although it was similar, the needle was a bit smaller than the one I used.
"Interesting, it seems like the subject has successfully transformed but whether or not they gained Subject's M's overall abilities will need further study."
"Alena make sure to perform a routine medical check-up soon and make sure that our subject will stay alive and breathing for further testing."
"Malcolm take this sample back to the Main Lab for comparison with Subject's M's to see what differences both specimens have with one another."
With a salute, I grabbed another box and carefully placed the test subject's blood sample into it. Then I grabbed Subject M's blood and the box I put it in placing both on the cart I rolled in previously and exited the lab, and while I wasn't the best medical expert, I was one of the best genetics in the facility.
So hopefully this would be interesting and prove to be a fruitful endeavor, though I do hope the man is able to pass away peacefully. God knows what this place will do to him or put him through.
As I entered the main lab, I got some nearby specialized goggles alongside some standard lab equipment, mostly various microscopes. I placed it all on the table, I took a look at the ever-sleeping subject, who right now looked nothing like what the transformed test subject did before I finally realized something.
"Oh Subject Moon, werewolf reference, okay now I get it."
I then went to work.
