Chapter 3: 3. Magic is a Pain
Armaros grit his teeth as he felt his Mana circulate through his arm, and he felt great pain in that limb as he felt is flow. This is also why he didn't use Mana when he is training, as he knew that it will be more difficult to train with it.
And it wasn't normal pain that he felt whenever he used Mana. Whenever he used Mana, it always felt like scalding hot water was flowing through his body, burning and making him feel immense pain.
It wasn't physical, but he still felt pain whenever he used his Mana which have brought him great misfortune. When he first tried to use it, he cried out due to the pain he experienced, and even though he explained it to his family and instructor, they didn't believe him, because no one in the world have ever felt pain whenever they used Mana.
The only feeling they got was of power and energy as they felt their own Mana flow through their body. Instead, they thought that he was trying to make an excuse for not training with his magic.
This of course forced him to keep on training his magic and so he had to experience the pain again and again before he finally became able to control the Mana in a correct way despite the pain.
Of course, the more Mana he used, the more pain he had to experience, and that meant that whenever he used Magic, he felt the same pain everytime, and he has to get used to it.
But even after all these years, he still isn't able to control the Mana correctly with the pain and his control is still isn't correct. Due to these reasons, he only ever uses Mana whenever he is doing magic training, and doesn't use it when he is training his swordsmanship and other physical training.
He focused and endured the pain in his entire arm, as he felt his entire arm being in pain as he formed a sphere of Holy Light and shot it at the target. But it was smaller than the ones his sisters used and it's power also wasn't the same, as his attack only destroyed the upper portion of the target, while the attacks of his sisters destroyed the target and the ground in a small radius.
He let out a breath as he lowered his arm as he felt relief when the pain went away as he looked at his right arm and frowned. He then heard the sound of the girls scoffing as he looked at them.
"Disappointing." Claudia said as she looked at him coldly.
"Come on sister, I also destroyed the target, mostly." Armaros said to her with a nervous smile.
"You lack power. And I can see that that one attack also has a toll on you. To us, an attack of that magnitude is easy." Arianne said to him as she matched the cold look of her elder sister.
"Yes. You're very weak." Solana said as she crossed her arms and looked at his target with a frown.
"A member of our family should never be that weak." Fleur said to him as she looked at him with eyes of cold disappointment.
"I'm trying okay." Armaros said as he looked away and crossed his arms.
"Evidently, your trying isn't enough. I have been teaching all five of you for years now, and compared to the rest of your sisters, you are weak." The instructor said to him with a look of disapproval.
"I'm strong enough as I am." Armaros said as he looked at the man.
"But not to the standards of this family. Your ancestors would've been ashamed to learn that such a weak child was born into the family." The instructor said to him with a condescending look.
Armaros felt his mouth twitch at the man's words but he kept his composure and didn't say anything. He is a powerful warrior and is the instructor of the six of them, when his own little sister reaches a certain level of skill or age, he will start training her as well.
"We are not done. Continue." The instructor said sharply as he used his magic to create more targets.
Their family's ability to use Holy Light is very precious, and being able to use Holy Light is seen as a symbol of being a member of their family. It is possible for others to use light magic, but Holy Light is only something that they can use in all of the empire, and it comes naturally to them as well.
So him not being able to use it properly is not seen well by the rest of his family also the servants. It also didn't help that their mother didn't care much about her children, being more concerned about running the family correctly and efficiently.
Due to this the servants also don't treat him with much respect due to his deficiency of strength. They do give him some respect but compared to his sisters, it isn't much. But he doesn't care about that as he has managed to ignore it.
But, his own situation with his family is what causes him to feel sad. They don't respect him and despite his efforts, his sisters don't see him as any different and treats him coldly, even though he has been kind to them, both his older sisters and the younger ones, and also to his mother as well.
He has been kind to them and would always smile and also give them gifts during their birthdays. But they do not care much about it, caring more about getting stronger and upholding the honour of their family. All of his family are more concerned with upholding the family name and live up to it.
And of course, because of his own weakness, they don't think much of what he does for them as well. But he didn't care about it much, as he also understood why they are like this, especially in the mediaeval era where the common sense is much different than from his time, as people of noble birth cared more about personal honour and the honour of their family than anything else.
But even so, he still wanted them to at least acknowledge his efforts. But he pushed that thought aside as he kept on training, as he knew that despite his position, this world is a dangerous one and he needed to be strong enough to protect himself.
So despite the searing pain that he experienced due to the use of magic, he kept on using it. He has wondered why he is experiencing pain whenever he uses magic, but he has no answer and so is left to just endure the pain, as he kept on doing now.
After the magic training was done, he sat on the ground and let out breaths as he was sweaty due to enduring so much pain during the training as his arms also shook as he sat there.
His sisters just looked at him with disappointed eyes as they left the training area while his own instructor didn't say anything and walked away.
Armaros looked at his little sister Valeria, but saw her also leaving with her nanny. He sighed at her action and hoped that she would at least start to appreciation his actions.
He sat there as he took some minutes before he got up and left the training arena and entered the corridors as he wiped some sweat on his forehead.
But as he took a right turn he stopped immediately as his eyes widened as he saw a tall blonde haired woman walking towards him.
"Mom." Armaros said as he looked at his mother.
