Absolute Evil: Dark Lord Descends

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Rosaline Dion

Stepping out of her brother's hospital room, Leni took a glance at the pile of patients near the trauma center. Surprised by how crowded the area was, she immediately noticed a familiar individual sitting alone in the corner of the waiting area.

It was her classmate, Rosaline Dion, who was not only her classmate but also her primary rival in academics, appearance, sports, and musical talents. Rosaline Dion was always one step above her.

The same nervous smile she always wore, the same hesitant gait. It was all because of Rosaline Dion. Rosaline, the girl who had stolen the spotlight, the girl who was everything Leni wasn't: confident, popular, effortlessly charming.

Being second made Leni a target of constant mockery within her class, as she always failed to outshine her opponent in other areas. Some even talked behind her back and spread countless fake rumors, making her the constant laughing stock. Her every misstep, every attempt to shine, was met with a barrage of mockery.

Everytime she's in the school she could hear whispers in the hallway, the snide comments, the cruel laughter - it all stung.

"Why does she's so obsessed on trying hard to be Roseline wannabe."

"No wonder she's always second, it turns out she's just a cheaper copy of Rosaline."

Leni overheard a group of girls whispering about Rosaline. "She's so perfect," one girl sighed. "I wonder what she's like when she's not putting on a show."

Intimidated by Rosaline Dion's growing popularity she decided to befriend her to save her reputation and also when Rosaline let her guard down she could dig around her into her hidden secrets, the cracks in her perfect facade. Maybe then, she could finally break free from the shadow of Rosaline's popularity.

Leni approached Rosaline with a nervous smile. "Hey, Rosaline," she said, her voice barely a whisper. "I was wondering if you wanted to grab lunch together sometime."

Rosaline, became wary of Leni's true intentions, smiled warmly. "Sure, why not?"

Leni's heart pounded with a mixture of fear and excitement. She had taken the first step, but the real game was just beginning. She would play the role of the loyal friend, the confidante, all the while digging for the truth, the hidden flaws that would finally bring Rosaline down.

Rosaline did not stay idle either, as she was also the one behind those fake rumors attacking Leni.

From her point of view, Leni was like a pest who was always a threat that she could crush at any moment whenever an opportunity came across her.

The two sly foxes took a glance at one another, carefully observing to find any direct faults without letting their guard down.

"Leni? Is that you? Thank God you're alive! I was so worried that you might've been devoured by those disgusting-looking monsters." Before Leni could speak, Rosaline had already greeted her with a sarcastic tone.

"Fortunately, we stayed at the house all night and listened to the broadcasting station's advice to stay at home during the incidents. I'm surprised you've stayed intact; I heard your area had the most casualties. If you ever have any financial issues, never forget to ask me for help, and maybe I could fund charities for your sake." Leni replied with a tinge of a smirk.

Veins started to become visible across Rosaline's face as she squinched her fists and answered calmly, "No worries. Actually, we had plenty of houses registered in the city, and also my parents were both surgeons, so I'm kinda just strolling around here. How about you? From what I know, your parents were prosecutors from your paternal grandparents' law firm. Did you have any family members who were afflicted by one of these incidents? As the president of the school's student council, maybe I could help you instead," Rosaline said sarcastically.

Leni, hearing Rosaline's questioning remark, couldn't lie about her situation and shrieked, "My older brother got run over by a truck and was immediately brought to the hospital. He just woke up, and he seems fine." Leni replied with a sobbing tone, thinking about how Rosaline cornered her again, gaining the upper hand in the situation.

How could this useless brother set her up like this? Embarrassment mixed with resentment started to grow in her heart.

"Oh my, is your brother okay?" Rosaline immediately reacted, her voice laced with a touch of concern that felt a little too genuine yet couldn't help but giggle upon her victory.

As an adopted and only child of the family, she slightly envied Leni when she heard she had a brother. It turns out Rosaline's childhood, despite being adopted, wasn't perfect like everyone imagined. She often felt like an outsider, a carefully curated addition to a family that already had its own dynamics.

As the two indulged themselves in constant unpleasantries, Leni broke the silence. "So, what do you want to eat?" she asked, trying to steer the conversation away from the uncomfortable topic of her brother.

Rosaline, sensing the shift, nodded. "Let's order from that new restaurant downtown. I heard they have amazing burgers."

They then agreed to order burgers and other dishes from the restaurant nearby and talk about school related stuff as they pleased.

**********

It was half an hour before they came back to the hospital.

Rosaline didn't forget to visit her supposedly friend's older brother as she was also curious to see her family. Leni hesitantly refused, but Rosaline was too adamant making no room for excuses.

(Knock knock knock)

Leni knocked three times and opened the doorknob.

Upon entering they're surprised seeing Larry watching a video in his phone quietly. His charming dreamy appearance seems to captivate Rosaline's attention as she look deeply across his serious expression bringing plus points to her heart hundred times fold.

Rosaline's yandere instincts would've crave in if she wasn't wary about Leni giving her a weird look.

Leni on the other hand was contemplating how to interact with her useless older brother, finding ways to avoid the situation.

"Uhm, Brother can I ask where's mom and dad went into?"

"...."

"Would you mind if we leave you here alone for a while?"

"...."

"?"

"....."

It's like talking to a mute, despite countless questions yet there's no response whatsoever. Leni didn't know whether to laugh or cry being with two of her most hated people inside the room.

"O-okay? Good. I'm just wondering if you need any help. Uhm, ugh I forgot to introduce..."

"Hello oppa, by the way you can call me Rose. Rose means love, royalty and beauty. Oppa would you mind if I stay here tonight since you're alone, I might wondering if you need some company to look after you?"

"?" Leni's eyes bulge in an instant upon witnessing Rosaline's yandere demeanor for the first time.
