Bleach: I Have No Talent

Chapter 17: 16: Burdens of the Blade

The battle had left Shiro battered and bruised. Every movement was agony as he struggled to his feet, his breath ragged. The quiet of the forest surrounding the village felt oppressive, broken only by the distant sounds of chaos within Konoha.

The system notification hung in his mind like a lingering presence:

Main Mission Completed

Progress: +5.00%

Current Progress: 9.61%

"Almost 10%..." Shiro muttered under his breath, his voice barely audible.

He stared at his trembling hands. They were stained with blood—both his own and his enemies'. His thoughts were a whirlwind of emotions: relief at surviving, anger at his own weakness, and guilt at the lives he'd taken.

Before leaving, Shiro climbed a nearby hill overlooking Konoha. From his vantage point, he could see the village struggling to recover. Fires dotted the skyline, medics moved in hurried groups, and shinobi patrolled the streets.

Amidst the chaos, his eyes found Naruto Uzumaki. The blonde-haired ninja stood on a rooftop, battered but unbroken, rallying a group of villagers to safety.

Shiro didn't approach. He remained in the shadows, watching as Naruto's determination shone through despite his injuries.

"He's just a kid," Shiro thought. "And yet... he's fighting for everyone, not just himself."

The realization hit him hard. Unlike Naruto, Shiro had fought purely to survive. Seeing someone so selfless in the face of danger sparked a quiet admiration within him.

Shiro turned away from the village, ready to leave this world behind. The system's voice echoed in his mind like a cold wind:

Main Mission Complete. Preparing to return to the original world.

In a flash of light, everything around him vanished.

Back at the Academy

Shiro's eyes fluttered open, and he found himself lying in his dorm bed. The familiar ceiling of his shared room came into focus, a stark contrast to the chaos he had just escaped. The room was quiet—Aizen and Haruto had just been released from the time-stop, unaware of what had transpired.

The transition was jarring. One moment, he had been fighting for his life in a different world; the next, he was back in the mundane comfort of his dorm.

He sat up, rubbing his temples. The relief of being back was quickly overshadowed by the weight of his experiences. Shiro's attention drifted to the Asauchi, now resting on his lap. The sword pulsed faintly, as though it had absorbed some of the chaos and violence from the world he'd just been in.

Shiro limped to the bathroom, splashing water on his face. The adrenaline had faded, leaving behind raw exhaustion. Staring at his reflection, he hardly recognized himself.

"I killed someone," he whispered. The memory of Kabuto's henchman flashed through his mind—a nameless ninja who had fallen to his blade. The look of surprise and pain in the man's eyes haunted him.

His stomach churned. Without warning, he leaned over the sink and vomited, his body rejecting the weight of what he'd done.

"Get it together," he muttered, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. But his words felt hollow. No amount of training at the Shin'ō Academy had prepared him for this.

As Shiro sat back on his bed, the system's familiar text appeared before his eyes:

[System Update]

Progress: 9.61%

Asauchi Imprinting Progress: 7.0%

New Skill Unlocked: Reiatsu Strengthening

Allows the user to enhance their physical attacks with Reiatsu, increasing power and cutting potential.

The sword felt heavier now, more in tune with him—its presence both comforting and burdensome. Each fight, each moment of desperation, had left a mark on its soul, as well as his own.

Shiro sighed, leaning back on the wall. "More power... but what's the point if I don't know how to use it?"

He stared at the Asauchi, the nameless blade silently reflecting his turmoil. Its pulse was faint, but steady, a reminder of their growing bond. Despite the weight of the battle, the sword hadn't failed him, and he wouldn't let it.

As the night deepened, Shiro lay back in his bed, his thoughts racing.

The memory of Naruto, of his unwavering determination, lingered. It wasn't just power that made someone strong—it was the resolve to protect what mattered.

"I have a long way to go," Shiro muttered. But even as the weight of his actions pressed down on him, a small ember of resolve flickered in his chest.

For now, the academy awaited. The path ahead was uncertain, but Shiro knew he couldn't afford to falter.
