 Commentary on Chapter 34. The Incident.

After three months, Eros finally finished with the King's library and even found a small clue related to Astaroth's book, which he had been puzzling over for almost a year and he found it in a history book. It described the story of a great magician who fought dragons on equal terms, destroyed demons with a wave of his hand, and a lot of other nonsense.

When Eros got to that point, he wanted to throw it away, but one thing caught his eye. It was a painting of a smiling man, with shoulder length black hair, bright scarlet eyes, and a pleasant appearance. He was wearing a white shirt and dark trousers, and had several rings on his hands, but it wasn't that that surprised Eros, it was the book that hung in the air, to the right of him at head level. It was very similar to the one he had, only the colour was duller and there were pages.

Then Eros began to read every word until one "Grimoire" flashed by. And the next week after that, it passed almost without sleep, he slept only ten hours in a week and still found almost nothing, only in one dictionary, a very old one was the denotation of the word:

"A grimoire is an accessible textbook of the magical arts and contains many spells, prayers, recipes, and recommendations for the magician."

The description was very sparse, but understandable. Still, Eros doubted that the author of the book had given a proper description when he looked at his "book" without the sheets. Still, he finally had a clue and couldn't help but feel good about it.

After spending a little over three months in the capital city, they were finally about to leave it and travel onwards. The king was upset when he heard about it and even offered to stay, but they refused. The king didn't want them to stay, he just helped them with provisions and other things they needed for the journey and the next day they left the capital and headed towards the city of Margaret, two weeks away from the capital of Fiore.

A week later. The capital city of Fior.

An ornate carriage arrived at the entrance from which a beautiful young woman stepped out. She had brown eyes and long blonde hair, styled in a bun. She also had a very attractive figure.

- Mistress Leila, may I escort you? - A group of ten knights approached her.

- I'd appreciate it.

A cold wind was blowing outside, and dark clouds were approaching from the west.....

Eros was looking at the map and nodding.

- Let's go that way, there should be a small village there, we'll camp there for now.

Half an hour later, when they were about to approach the village, Eros frowned at the smell of burning.

The others noticed it too.

- Let's speed up! - The titan took off sharply and disappeared from the team's sight.

He quickly moved through the forest until he came to an open area and stopped. A very unpleasant sight appeared before him. All the houses had been burnt to the ground and the corpses of people were lying on the ground.

When the others arrived too, they froze.

- Don't just stand there, look for survivors!" Eros shouted, and they nodded with serious faces and split up.

The village was small and it didn't take them half an hour to search everything.

- No one, all dead," Rick's voice sounded dry.

- Rani?

- It's the same in the west, no one," he was more restrained, "But I've noticed one odd thing....

- Also?

Rani nodded and looked pityingly at Rick and Lily.

- 'I didn't find a single baby...'

Rick clenched his fist even tighter, while Lily looked at him sadly.

- Lily! - Eros shouted loudly and ran towards the surprised team, carrying a girl about six years old with long, straight dark hair. She was wearing a white tank top and a dark skirt, -She's still alive!

Lily quickly examined the girl for any injuries and scanned her body with magic, and after a moment she nodded with a slight smile.

- She's fine, she just passed out," she said with relief.

- Good..." Eros said with a heavy sigh.

- What are we going to do about all this?

- We have to report about it, and in the meantime, at least bury it, - the titan said sadly and looked at Rick, from whom came a strong killing intent, - We can't catch up with those who did it, so don't do anything stupid.

- Rick, let's finish everything here first and then we'll start searching," he nodded in response.

Eros created a large square hole about ten metres from the village, fifteen metres deep and ten wide. And they all started dragging the bodies together... At that time the girl woke up too.

- Brother! - The girl exclaimed and tears sprang from her eyes, Eros, who was closest to her, came to her.

- Hey, stop crying," he said in a soft voice, stroking her.

- W-who are you? - She was frightened when she saw the stranger and started to back away.

- We are mages," Eros said, smiling slightly, "We were passing by and saw what happened here... But I guess we came too late.

- You haven't seen my brother, his name is Simon, he's a little taller than me with black hair..." her eyes filled with hope as she looked at Eros.

- I'm sorry, but I only found you and there were no other children here.

Hearing his words, she froze for a moment. Her body began to sway and fall backwards, but Eros managed to pick her up. He looked at her sadly, wiping away her tears... The Titan really wanted to help her, but he just couldn't... Now he couldn't.

An hour later they were done and having filled in the "mass grave", Eros made a tombstone out of stone with magic and placed it on it.

- That's it," the titan whispered, putting his hands together and covering his eyes, the others followed him.

At that moment, they heard soft footsteps and turned around sharply, the group panicked when they saw that girl. Eros, on the other hand, paid no attention to her. She approached him and after reading the inscription on the stone tombstone, tears came from her eyes again.

- My name is Kagura," she whispered quietly, blowing her nose.

- And I'm Eros, those two young men Rick and Lily, and that uncle Rani," Eros said without opening his eyes.

- Eros, you're a mage, aren't you? - he nodded, "Strong? - Then please make me strong, I want to find my brother and take revenge," the girl whispered again, her fists clenched and her gaze hard. After all, her brother was the only close person left, Kagura loved him too much and was ready to do anything to save him.

- So that's it..." Eros spoke thoughtfully as he opened his eyes and looked at her, "Okay, but not just like that.

- I'll do anything.- I'll take you as an apprentice, but in return you'll give up revenge and join my guild, - the next moment his voice was filled with steel, - Leave revenge to me, I'll never forgive those who kill innocent people for nothing, - at that moment he heard a cough and looked at the frowning faces of his friends and corrected himself, - That is us.

They left the village only two hours later. Kagura wanted to say goodbye to everyone and see if anything had survived.

A week later they reached the town and split up almost immediately. Lily and Rick went to the nearest inn, while Eros, Roni, and Kagura went to the Magic Council branch to report back.

They quickly reached their destination. The branch of the Magical Council was a large two-storey building in a medieval style, with a white cross painted on the wall. To the right of the building was a large area where the Rune Knights were training.

After entering the building, a corpulent two metre tall man wearing the uniform of a Rune Knight immediately approached them. He was very tense as he looked at Eros.

- Can I help you? - he said with respect in his voice.

- Yes, we would like to meet with Senior Lieutenant Thomas.

Before coming here, Eros had learnt all about the commander of this place, and he had asked the townspeople about him. They all described him as a strict but fair man who respected the law.

- I'm sorry, but the commander is busy at the moment," the man said regretfully, "But I can give him your message.

- If so, tell him that a village forty kilometres away from here was burned down, its inhabitants killed and its children kidnapped.

After hearing this, the smile on the knight's face froze and his eyes widened. Looking at Eros' serious face, the knight frowned.

- ''I will immediately relay your words, please wait here! - He quickly ran to the first floor.

After a minute, he came downstairs, pale and all out of breath.

- Please follow me, the commander is waiting for you!
