Faced with a beautiful woman who came right to his door, there was no reason for Jaxon to refuse her.
Liz finally asked, "Am I so much worse than Gwen and the others?"
Jaxon didn't need to look at Liz at this moment, as he had observed her many times.
She had fair skin, striking looks, and an excellent figure. Her height was a little more than Gwen's, and her legs were longer. Her frame wasn't as petite as Gwen's on the other hand it was more thick, perhaps due to her extra height, but that didn't prevent Liz from being one of the most admired girls in school.
Jaxon listened to her question, feeling a little puzzled. Was this just her competitive side showing?
"Are you doing this just to prove you're beautiful?"
"Of course you're beautiful, and hot."
"That's recognized by all the guys in school."
Liz replied, "Of course not. It's because you're so incredible, and I'm drawn to you."
With Liz taking the initiative, what else could Jaxon say?
"Oh damn, how could I turn down such a gorgeous girl?"
Liz didn't answer but continued dancing with Jaxon until the dance ended.
"Thank you, Jax, for dancing with me."
"It's an honor to dance with a beauty like you."
Just as Jaxon was about to take a break, Gwen pulled him aside and said, "I saw everything. Your hands were not exactly well-behaved!"
"Maybe it was just a slip of the hand?"
"And the conversation you had?"
It seemed Gwen was aware of everything.
Turns out having a girlfriend with superpowers could have its downsides.
"Well, then you should've heard. It wasn't me who started it."
"But you didn't turn her down."
Jaxon asked, "Gwen, if you were a guy, could you have refused Liz?"
Gwen didn't argue any further. She thought she'd only have Hannah as another sister, but now it seemed she'd need to include Liz, too.
"Explain it to Mary Jane, Betty, Hannah, and Liz yourself."
Gwen looked a bit annoyed, and Jaxon knew Mary Jane might not take it as well.
After some effort, Jaxon finally managed to smooth things over with Gwen and Mary Jane.
As it got late, people started to leave one by one. Jaxon rested for a while and then noticed that among those who left was Peter Parker.
Jaxon quickly caught up and called to Peter, "Hey, Peter, are you okay?"
Peter said reluctantly, "I'm fine. I have to go back. Aunt May is waiting for me at home."
Judging by Peter's expression, Jaxon knew he'd probably noticed something, or at the very least, that Liz had asked Jaxon to dance. With Peter's intelligence, he could likely put two and two together.
Jaxon called out to him, "I think we should talk."
Peter forced a smile and tried to appear calm.
"I'm fine. This isn't the first time."
"It makes sense that Liz would like you. You're better than me, more charming, and way better with girls."
"I swear, I didn't even know Liz felt that way. If I did, I wouldn't have encouraged you to pursue her."
"I believe you. Maybe I should just focus on college. Oh wait, we're in the same college."
"Don't worry, Peter. You'll find your true love."
"Thanks, Jax. I have to go now."
"Goodbye."
"Goodbye, Jax."
Peter was heartbroken once again, this time because of Jaxon. However, unlike with Mary Jane, Liz had come to him of her own accord.
Jaxon returned to the house, thinking he should find an opportunity to talk privately with Liz.
---
Jaxon returned inside. With most classmates gone, it wasn't as lively as before, but now Liz had more free time.
Jaxon found her, "Liz, I think we should talk alone."
When Liz saw it was Jaxon, she immediately smiled.
"Of course. Come with me upstairs."
"OK."
The two went upstairs, and Liz opened a door, pulling Jaxon inside. He followed her in, recognizing it as a girl's bedroom — Liz's room, undoubtedly.
He didn't have much time to think as Liz eagerly pounced on him, hugging his neck.
Jaxon could have dodged, but there was no reason to do so.
Liz was determined, showing her intentions clearly.
Jaxon gently hugged her, waiting for her to calm down. Liz did relax a bit, though her eyes were still intense, making Jaxon anticipate what might come next.
"Liz, now isn't the best time."
"The party is almost over, and people are leaving. They need you down there."
But Liz seemed undeterred, with an urgency that couldn't be ignored.
"It's fine. We just need ten minutes. It'll be okay."
Jaxon smirked, "Just ten minutes? Liz, you seem to underestimate me."
Liz raised an eyebrow, clearly having succeeded in her plan, "Well then, prove me wrong."
It was obvious by now that Liz was entirely committed.
"Maybe we should have Betty keep an eye on the others to make sure no one bothers us." Jaxon suggested.
Liz immediately took charge, "Then call Betty."
Before he could dial, she was already in action.
The phone rang for a while before Gwen finally noticed it and passed it to Betty.
Betty looked a bit puzzled seeing Jaxon's call. He was right there at the party; they could easily talk face-to-face.
"Jax, what's up?"
Jaxon glanced at Liz, who was getting increasingly animated, and made up a quick excuse.
"Liz's had a little too much to drink, so I'm helping her out."
"But there may be students who need to leave soon. Can you keep an eye on things?"
Betty, as Liz's best friend, looked concerned.
"Liz is drunk? Let me..."
Before she could finish, Gwen took the phone and spoke calmly, "We understand. You two better be quiet."
Jaxon chuckled, looking at Liz, who was clearly on a mission, "I can't make any promises."
Gwen hung up, rolling her eyes. She'd accepted the situation, but it still stirred up some feelings.
Betty looked thoughtful, "Gwen, do you think Jax and Liz..."
"What else? Liz is 'drunk,' and someone needs to look after her. It probably should've been you, her best friend, not him."
Betty shrugged, unconcerned. For her, it was just another chapter in Jaxon's tangled relationships. She had known the complexities of his situation since seeing him with Gwen and Mary Jane at the coffee shop.
Betty was grateful to have found her own place in his life, though. Jaxon had even been kind enough to help her mother out, sealing her loyalty.
For her, as long as she had her own space with Jaxon, she was happy. Besides, Liz was a good friend, so if anyone was to be close to Jaxon, better it be her.
Taking her responsibility seriously, Betty stayed behind to help manage the classmates who were leaving.
As time passed, another group of students left, signaling the end of the party.
Most classmates had left, leaving only Jaxon's close female friends. By then, the party was officially over.
