I am Thor

Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Saving People

Nick Fury's prediction had been correct. After the massive HYDRA infiltration scandal, the World Security Council's trust in S.H.I.E.L.D. plummeted, and the half-century-old organization faced imminent dissolution.

As a final act, Fury used his hidden access to release all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s classified files, exposing every dark secret. Then, he destroyed his personal arsenal, slipped into disguise, and disappeared—seemingly bringing S.H.I.E.L.D. to an end.

But it was just a cover. Peggy Carter, the legendary founder, emerged from retirement to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. in the shadows. Supported by loyal agents like Phil Coulson and Sharon Carter, S.H.I.E.L.D. now operated covertly, taking on tasks that the Avengers couldn't handle. Peggy, as Thor's longtime partner, became the vital link between the two forces. Meanwhile, Nick Fury remained the unseen force guiding the Avengers.

"It's sad," Peggy sighed in the living room, her gaze distant. "All the effort we put into building S.H.I.E.L.D., and now it's gone."

Skye, sitting nearby, looked frustrated. "You wouldn't believe the accusations those council members threw at us. They're the ones who insisted on recruiting 'local talent' like Dr. Zola, but now they're blaming us for everything that went wrong! Hypocrites," she muttered. "They even pretended to care about 'public safety' while nearly dropping a nuke on New York!"

Peggy chuckled sympathetically. "Welcome to dealing with politicians." Then, turning to Thor with a glimmer in her eye, she added, "So, since we're all homeless now, I guess you'll have to take me in…"

Originally, with S.H.I.E.L.D. dismantled, former high-ranking members like Maria Hill had joined Stark Industries, where Howard Stark, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s founders, had once led. But with Peggy back, Tony Stark might not be as thrilled about adding another "advisor" to his roster.

Currently, the Avengers were headquartered in the old Stark Tower, though they were planning to relocate to a new base in the suburbs as their ranks grew. Thor planned to fund this new base himself; he disliked relying on others for support.

Elsewhere in a quiet alley, a mother and her young son found themselves cornered by a gang of men in black, each holding a gun.

"Run, keep running!" the leader sneered, advancing on them.

The woman clutched her son, fear etched on her face. Her husband had always insisted on bodyguards for their safety, but it seemed this ambush had been planned. Desperate, she pleaded, "Please, let my son go. I'll give you any amount of money you want!"

The man laughed cruelly. "Money? Tempting, but today, we only want your son's life."

He raised his gun, ready to fire. But before he could pull the trigger, a single gunshot rang out, and suddenly, there was someone standing in front of them—Thor, catching the bullet with his bare hand.

The men in black froze in shock. One of them, attempting to save face, aimed his gun at Thor's head and barked, "Who the hell are you? Mind your own business!"

Thor smirked, unfazed. "Idiot. If your boss isn't speaking, why are you?"

With a swift slap, Thor sent the man spinning. His head turned so fast that his neck twisted like a rag, dropping lifelessly to the ground without a single drop of blood.

Realizing who they were up against, the remaining men panicked. "Retreat! Now!" they shouted, fleeing down the alley.

Thor didn't bother to chase them. They were finished, and the best they could hope for was a quick end. He turned back to the woman and her son, who clung to each other, relief flooding their faces.

"Thank you for saving us!" she cried, hugging her son tightly.

Before Thor could respond, a burst of gunfire erupted nearby, followed by screams. The noise subsided within seconds.

Thor waved off her thanks. "It was nothing. Just a small effort."

"It may have been easy for you," came a deep voice from behind him, "but to me, they're everything."

A massive, burly man strode into the alley, flanked by a group of bodyguards carrying submachine guns. One of the guards held the barely conscious leader of the men in black, who had attempted to escape.

Thor turned to face him, eyes narrowing as he sized up the newcomer.
