Chapter 8: 08. Battling Against Two Demonic Beasts.
As a magical beast, the Glimmerfox was familiar with how dangerous humans could be. All humans had a single train of thought which was simply to strike first before deciding to know if what was in front of them had any intention to harm them or not. Besides, who was to say that the human in front of the fox would be any different?
However, to the fox's surprise, the moment Aaron's hand made contact with its body, an indescribable warmth flowed from the human and spread throughout the body of the fox, filling it with strength, vitality, and even joy.
The fox had been whimpering from the pain for a while now, but the moment it felt Aaron's hands on its body, the fox let out a soft yip before feeling relaxed.
Meanwhile, Aaron could see that the fox had become surrounded by a faint glow which seemed to be rejuvenating the little fox.
Aaron's eyes widened in surprise when he noticed the huge cut on the fox, slowly healing itself as though the fox had never been injured just a few moments ago.
Before Aaron could fully process what was going on in front of him, he suddenly heard a rustling sound nearby.
He turned around to see a pair of shadowy, dog-like creatures emerging from the bushes and he noticed that the red eyes of the dogs were gleaming with hunger.
Their mouths were also drooling as they bared their teeth in preparation to attack.
"Demonic beasts," Aaron whispered to himself while tightening his grip on the sword by his side.
He didn't need anyone to confirm what he was seeing because he was certain that the dogs in front of him were demonic.
However, a notification from the system popped up in front of him, displaying the details of the demonic beasts that were approaching him and the fox.
=====
[System Notification,]
Beast Type:- Demonic Beasts.
Detected Specie:- Dark Hounds.
Threat Level: Balanced.
======
Reading the details displayed on the screen, Aaron knew exactly what he had to do.
He could see that the system had stated that his current strength was similar to the two Dark Hounds in front of him, but if he didn't attack with caution, the two demonic beasts could rip him to shreds.
Moreover, the threat level might also be balanced due to the Glimmerfox he had healed, but Aaron wasn't certain about that so he didn't think about it too much.
Without warning, the hounds lunged towards him with unnervingly fast movements.
They moved too fast for Aaron to notice, and he barely managed to sidestep the first hound, whose claws were able to graze his arm, but Aaron swung his sword in a wide arc with the hope of forcing the second beast to back off.
His heart was pounding as he stayed a safe distance away from the two demonic beasts.
There was no doubt about it, these two demonic beasts weren't like the ordinary creatures back on Earth. They were faster, stronger, and more relentless.
He could see why many people in the town feared these beasts, and it was even more astonishing how his father had been able to fight against hundreds of these beasts with a small number of knights by his side.
Dragging his mind back to the hounds in front of him, Aaron heard the barking sounds of the fox which had fully healed now.
The fox darted forward before biting one of the hounds and distracting it long enough for Aaron to strike.
His blade found its mark and the sword cut deep into the hound's body.
The second hound lunged at the fox but Aaron intercepted it on time. He adjusted his stance and had already anticipated the hound's movement before driving his blade into the chest of the second hound.
The second hound collapsed, causing the forest to return back to its creepy silence once again.
Aaron looked around one last time to make sure that there was no other hound nearby, and the moment he confirmed that there was no other beast in the perimeter, he dropped to one knee, panting heavily.
The Glimmerfox approached him cautiously before nuzzling its nose against Aaron's hand.
Aaron smiled and began to slowly pat the fox's head and ears. The Glimmerfox didn't hate what Aaron was doing so it leaned into Aaron's hand even more.
"Thanks for saving me," He thanked the fox and the fox licked his hand in response. Aaron could feel that the fox was thanking him for saving her life as well.
"You're welcome," Aaron said with a faint smile before noticing the system notification popping up in front of him.
[Congratulations to the host; Glimmerfox's loyalty has risen to 5%.]
[You've been rewarded with 5 bond energy points.]
[You've acquired your first skill:- {Fusion}.]
[Fusion:- This skill allows the host to permanently fuse with an unlocked skill of a loyal beast.]
"A skill?" Aaron was surprised to see that he had acquired a skill from the system, but judging by what the skill consisted of, Aaron could see that the skill was pretty good.
He noticed his body starting to glow and an influx of information surged through his mind, filling him with an indescribable amount of energy.
He turned towards the glimmerfox to see her rubbing her body against him like a cat. He stroked her body slowly before muttering loud enough for the fox to hear.
"How would you feel about coming home with me?" He asked and she nuzzled him once again.
"I'll take that as a yes."
The Glimmerfox made a small yip sound and wagged its tail in excitement.
Aaron smiled as he petted her once again. He had expected the fox to agree to his suggestion because the forest was becoming a dangerous environment for not only the town's knights but also for magical beasts like the Glimmerfox. He was sure that the fox would rather be in a place where it knew that it wouldn't be hurt, and right now, being with Aaron was the best choice available to it.
With nothing else to do, the two returned to the mansion so they could finally call it a night.
=====
A/N:- In case you did not know, foxes can actually bark like dogs. Yeah, I know, they're weird and amazing at the same time.
