Chapter 326: Chapter 326: The War is Over, and the Aftermath is Evident

With the armistice agreement signed, the village finally exhaled a collective sigh of relief. The war was over at last. Both Konoha and Sunagakure quickly sent word to their respective frontlines, while the Hokage's Office issued an official announcement to the village.

The Village Reacts

"A new announcement has been posted in the Hokage Office Building!" someone exclaimed.

"What does it say? Read it quickly!" came the impatient replies.

A crowd gathered around the announcement board. Despite the village's efforts to promote literacy among ninja families, many ordinary villagers still relied on others to read for them. A literate volunteer stepped forward to read the notice aloud.

"The village has successfully negotiated peace with Sunagakure. An armistice agreement has been signed. Our frontline troops will soon return home," the reader declared.

The crowd erupted. "The war is over!" someone shouted, and the news spread like wildfire. The weight of three long years of conflict lifted from the villagers' shoulders.

Some wept tears of joy at the prospect of peace, while others cried from the pain of remembering loved ones lost in the war. The announcement brought closure to many, even as it left a lingering ache in the hearts of those who had suffered.

Reflections on the Rooftop

From atop a tall building, Shinki watched the commotion in front of the Hokage's Office. He sighed. "So many lives touched by this war."

Tsunade, seated beside him, remained expressionless. "The war may have stopped, but the scars it left will take at least a decade to heal."

"Ten years?" Kushina exclaimed, her eyes wide. The thought of such a long recovery was shocking. But then her thoughts turned to the Uzumaki clan, and her expression darkened.

Shinki noticed her change in mood. Without a word, he pulled her onto his lap and held her close. Kushina leaned against him, seeking comfort. "My old family may be gone, but I have a new one now," she murmured, gripping Shinki tightly.

Tsunade watched the scene with a mix of amusement and jealousy. Though she wanted to tease Kushina, she refrained, knowing the girl needed support.

Instead, she rolled her eyes at Shinki. Typical. Always the one to play the hero.

Preparing for the Future

Tsunade broke the silence. "Has Chiyo approached you about the puppet trade yet?"

"Not yet," Shinki replied, gently patting Kushina on the head. "She'll wait until the celebrations die down. Right now, the village is focused on announcing the peace and organizing the troop withdrawals."

Over the next few days, Konoha would undoubtedly be filled with festivities to celebrate the end of the war. Shinki knew Chiyo would bide her time until the atmosphere calmed.

The War's Ripple Effect

As the news of the armistice spread, its impact was felt across the ninja world. Villages like Iwagakure and Kumogakure, which had watched the conflict from a distance, quickly turned their focus to internal matters. They recognized that Sunagakure had barely avoided disaster, and Konoha had secured an advantageous position.

Kirigakure, however, was too preoccupied with its internal struggles to pay much attention. The Third Mizukage's illness had left the village in chaos, with power struggles erupting between rival factions. For the Hidden Mist, the end of Konoha and Sunagakure's war was a distant concern.

Orders from the Frontline

At Konoha's frontlines, Orochimaru wasted no time. Upon receiving the armistice news, he issued immediate orders for an organized withdrawal. His instructions were clear:

Pack up all supplies that could be salvaged. Destroy anything that could benefit Sunagakure if left behind. Ensure combat troops were the last to retreat, guarding against the slim possibility of a betrayal by Sunagakure.

Though the risk of a sudden attack was low, Orochimaru wasn't one to leave anything to chance. The wounded and logistics teams were prioritized for evacuation, while the combat troops maintained a defensive posture until the very end.

Sand Village's Somber Reality

In contrast to Konoha's celebratory atmosphere, Sunagakure was eerily quiet. Officially, the public message framed the armistice as a neutral outcome. But the people of Sunagakure weren't fooled—they knew they had gained nothing from the war.

The Third Kazekage, realizing the challenges ahead, left the frontlines to return to the village. He had to manage the rebuilding process and address the discontent brewing among his people. The failure to secure a decisive victory had cast a shadow over Sunagakure, leaving its citizens questioning the cost of the war.

Looking Ahead

As Konoha's troops began their journey home, the Sand Village prepared to reclaim its border defenses. Both villages faced the monumental task of rebuilding—not just their infrastructure, but also the trust and morale of their people.

For Konoha, the end of the war marked a turning point. The focus now shifted to strengthening the village, supporting its civilians, and ensuring that such devastation would not repeat.

But for Sunagakure, the aftermath of the war raised difficult questions. Would they cling to their traditions, or embrace change in the face of new challenges? Only time would tell.
