Chapter 339: Chapter 339: I Am the Only Heir, I Have No Guilt
"What... what happened?"
Kushina felt a twinge of guilt for some reason. She avoided meeting Shinki's eyes, fearing he might see through her.
"I said, call them over! Don't think I don't know you've been planning a trip with your sisters!"
With Shinki's puppets stationed all over Konoha, how could he not know that Kushina had secretly gone to Uchiha Mikoto and roped her into her plans? The night before they were supposed to leave, she had met Mikoto and chatted for a long time. What else could it be but to convince her to join the adventure?
Show off? Not likely.
Knowing Kushina's personality, she had undoubtedly gone to find a companion.
"Cough! Cough!"
Kushina choked on air, her face reddening. She coughed repeatedly, her watery eyes staring at Shinki in disbelief, as if to say, How do you know?!
She had indeed planned to bring Uchiha Mikoto and Mehu along on this trip, though she hadn't told anyone. Yet, Shinki still managed to find out.
"My puppets are everywhere in Konoha. How else would I know?"
Shinki chuckled, shaking his head. He raised his hand and gave Kushina a light flick on the forehead.
"And you have a special identity. My puppets have been keeping an eye on you. Even though you're a perfect Jinchuriki, without sufficient combat experience, you're vulnerable to enemies. Do you think I can let you roam freely without concern?"
Kushina's strength looked great on paper, but when it came to real combat, she was inexperienced. If she encountered cunning enemies, she would undoubtedly struggle.
"Ahh! How can this be?"
Kushina sat down in frustration, her posture resembling a duck's. On the surface, she looked upset, but deep down, she was delighted.
Shinki cares about my safety so much that he even has puppets protecting me!
As this thought crossed her mind, pink bubbles of joy filled her heart.
"...."
The Nine-Tails, sealed inside Kushina, observed her feelings and couldn't bear to watch anymore. With a sigh, the great beast covered its eyes with its paws and went to sleep. Human emotions are incomprehensible. Animals are so much simpler—find a mate, handle business, and move on.
Since Shinki had already discovered her plans, Kushina saw no point in hiding them anymore. Happily, she pulled out a signal flare and fired it.
Soon, Uchiha Mikoto appeared, carrying a small travel package with Mehu by her side. When they saw Shinki sitting on a rock with a half-smile, both of them blushed with embarrassment.
So awkward!
They regretted agreeing to Kushina's invitation so quickly. Initially, they had been thrilled at the idea of joining her for the outing, especially since Shinki would also be present.
Kushina had convinced them in no time. Uchiha Mikoto had asked Fugaku for leave, and he readily agreed, even offering her a public fund reimbursement and vacation bonus.
"Have fun and don't worry about anything," Fugaku had said.
Mehu, however, had faced some resistance from her clan. When the clan elders heard about the trip, they immediately voiced their objections.
"Mehuis a member of the main family. If she goes out without guards, isn't that too dangerous?"
"Yes, the ninja world has its eyes on our clan. If the Byakugan is exposed, it could spell trouble."
The clan head, Hiashi, sipped his tea calmly as the elders complained. When they finally stopped talking, he set his cup down and said, "Do you doubt Shinki's ability to protect Mehu? Or do you believe there's someone in the ninja world who can snatch her away from him?"
The room fell silent.
Faced with Shinki's reputation, the elders couldn't find the courage to argue further.
Over time, Hiashi had learned an important lesson from Shinki: Don't indulge the elders too much, or they'll keep testing your limits.
Initially, Hiashi had felt guilty about being so strict, fearing it would alienate the elders. But with Shinki's guidance and support, he realized, I'm the only heir to this position. Why should I feel guilty? Unless I drop dead tomorrow, no one can threaten my authority as clan leader.
With this newfound confidence, Hiashi began asserting his authority decisively. The elders, surprisingly, started to respect him more, appreciating his firm stance.
This is how a clan leader should be!
And with that realization, Hiashi fully embraced his role, opening the door to a new chapter of leadership.
