Naruto: Tobirama Reborn, Invincible in the Ninja World

Chapter 63: Chapter 63: The Almighty Hashirama Cells

"Tsunade, can you figure out what illness Uchiha Itachi is suffering from?"

Only now did Tobirama realize there was another person in the room.

Lying on the adjacent hospital bed, Itachi poked his head out from under the blanket.

"Uchiha Itachi?"

Tsunade glanced briefly at the patient. Through her earlier conversation with Tobirama, she had already learned the truth about the Uchiha clan's tragic demise. Ultimately, the conflict between Konohagakure and the Uchiha clan had reached an irreconcilable point.

Back in her granduncle's time, the Second Hokage was wary of the Uchiha clan, but he treated them no differently than anyone else. Even one of his disciples and guards, Uchiha Kagami, was a proud member of the clan. However, Tobirama's caution was misinterpreted by Danzo and Hiruzen, leading them to regard the Uchiha as a threat that had to be eliminated.

The Nine-Tails Incident—where the Sharingan-controlled beast wreaked havoc—only deepened the upper echelon's suspicion of the Uchiha, even without evidence. They assumed the clan harbored rebellion in their hearts. To prevent war between the village and his family, Itachi made the unimaginable choice to wipe out his clan himself.

Tsunade couldn't understand this decision. If she had to choose between the Senju clan and the village, her family would come first. After all, the very foundation of Konohagakure was to protect families and ensure the survival of future generations. If one couldn't even protect their own kin, what was the point of the village?

While she couldn't relate to Itachi's choice, she respected it. Perhaps, in his heart, the village had surpassed the importance of family.

Tsunade gave a small nod and carefully observed the bedridden Itachi. Her expression grew increasingly grim as she scrutinized him.

"Hey, Uchiha kid, what the hell have you been doing to yourself?"

"These are obvious symptoms of a Kekkei Genkai disease. How are you even still using the Sharingan?"

Her tone was serious. Tsunade had treated Kekkei Genkai-related ailments before, but she had never seen a case as severe as Itachi's. He had clearly pushed the limits of his bloodline abilities to an unprecedented degree.

"Tsunade-sama, I had no choice…" Itachi coughed lightly and explained, his voice low. "In the Akatsuki, a group of dangerous rogue ninjas, I needed to maintain my Mangekyo Sharingan at all times to survive… If I showed even the slightest weakness, I'd be done for. Both the internal threats from the organization and the deadly missions were constant dangers to my life."

Tsunade frowned, then turned to Tobirama.

"Granduncle, Itachi's condition is dire. To be blunt, even if he stops using the Sharingan, he won't live more than five years."

The Mangekyo Sharingan drained ocular power, which originated from the brain. Overuse led to severe consequences: mental instability, difficulty walking, and cognitive impairments. These symptoms were almost universal among Uchiha who awakened the Mangekyo.

"Is there any way to save him?" Tobirama asked. Despite his historical mistrust of the Uchiha, Tobirama didn't want Itachi to die. After all, Itachi had loyally served Konohagakure, proving himself both highly capable and obedient to the Hokage's will.

"To be honest, it's difficult…" Tsunade admitted.

Itachi showed no visible reaction. He was well aware of his deteriorating health, and the prospect of living five more years was already better than he had expected. In those five years, he hoped to return to Konohagakure, watch over Sasuke, and cherish their remaining time together.

"But," Tsunade added after a pause, "it's not impossible."

Her words surprised Itachi.

"I can create a medicinal regimen to stabilize his condition, but it will only slow the progression of his disease. For a full recovery… we'll need Grandfather Hashirama's cells."

There it was—the legendary Hashirama cells!

The moment Tsunade mentioned another solution, Tobirama had guessed it. Throughout history, the cells of Hashirama Senju had proven to be the ultimate cure-all.

Low chakra reserves? Inject Hashirama cells!

Want Wood Release? Inject Hashirama cells!

Sharingan going blind? You guessed it—Hashirama cells!

If Hashirama were alive, he'd probably be horrified to learn how extensively his remains had been experimented on.

However, Hashirama's cells weren't without risks, particularly for non-Uchiha users. Orochimaru had created 60 test subjects in an attempt to replicate Wood Release, and only Yamato survived. The cells were alive, possessing immense vitality and the ability to consume the host's native cells. Without sufficient resilience, the body couldn't adapt.

"Itachi, are you willing to try?" Tobirama asked. He had plenty of Hashirama cells in storage—both from experiments during his lifetime and the spoils from dismantling Danzo's Root lab.

"This is extremely risky, and success isn't guaranteed," Tsunade cautioned.

"Hokage-sama, Tsunade-sama, I am willing!" Itachi replied without hesitation.

"My life was already saved by the Hokage. If I can continue to serve the village after this, I'll gladly take the chance."

His voice carried determination. He wasn't ready to give up yet—not when he still wished to see Sasuke grow up, find happiness, and start a family of his own.

"Alright, since the patient has no objections, we'll proceed."

Tsunade shrugged. "In the meantime, drink the medicine I'll prepare for you. It should strengthen your body enough to endure the treatment."

Given Itachi's fragile state, she wasn't sure how well he'd handle the invasive Hashirama cells, but she'd do everything she could to help him survive.

"All settled! Now, Granduncle, let's go explore Konoha together!"

Having temporarily resolved Itachi's issue, Tsunade turned to Tobirama with a grin. Her eyes sparkled with the same mischievous energy she had as a child.

"Uh… fine," Tobirama relented, though he was tempted to use Flying Thunder God to escape.

With that, a beaming Tsunade practically dragged the reluctant Tobirama out of Konoha Hospital.

"Tsunade-sama is in a good mood," Shizune remarked with a chuckle as she cradled Tonton in her arms, following closely behind.
