Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Rim’s Past and the First Encounter with the Revolutionary Army
"What the hell are you talking about, Jack?!"
"This isn't something you can just decide for me!"
"I'm a real man, alright? My preferences are normal! I like women—women, you hear me? Not men who look like women!"
It was clear Rim was strongly opposed to this marriage proposal, voicing his objections with intense fervor. Jack, on the other hand, was growing irritated.
Rim, have you lost your mind? So what if you pretend to agree now? Once we take you back to Wano, things will be under our control anyway.
Just as Jack hesitated, debating whether Rim needed a little "discipline," Master stepped forward.
The words that left his mouth shocked everyone.
"You say you like women? Ha-ha-ha!"
"Women? Let me tell you something—I used to be a woman myself!"
"I was turned into a man by a certain Devil Fruit user!"
It was like a thunderclap in the room. What kind of ability could turn someone into a man?
Look at that Adam's apple, the scruffy stubble, the way those tailored trousers fit...
Master's voice was filled with resentment, his gaze piercing as he looked at Rim.
"If you can help me find that person, I can return to being a woman."
His eyes burned with determination as he continued.
"That person is none other than the Queen of Kamabakka Kingdom—Emporio Ivankov!"
That name left everyone stunned. Kamabakka? Ivankov?
Unlike Jack, who was completely clueless, Rim seemed to recognize the name. The moment Master finished speaking, Rim's shocked voice echoed:
"The legend of salvation... Emporio Ivankov!"
Jack couldn't comprehend Rim's tone—it was complex, mixing shock, admiration, and a faint sadness that tugged at the heartstrings.
This unexpected reaction drew everyone's curiosity to its peak, including Master, whose excitement was momentarily dampened by Rim's sorrowful expression.
Sensing the growing curiosity, Rim leaned casually against an ostrich-chicken that had wandered over and started to speak:
"Jack-sama, you might know who my enemies are, but I doubt you know why I hate them so much."
"My hometown was a beautiful little village where I spent my childhood. But my family carried a hereditary illness, and my father passed away when I was very young. My mother raised me on her own."
"She was a doctor and spent her life trying to find a cure for my condition, conducting endless experiments."
"Thankfully, the villagers were kind to us and offered their support."
"But one day, we saved two strangers, and that brought disaster to the entire town."
Rim's voice trembled, as if he was on the verge of tears. The group remained silent, their eyes fixed on him.
"I still remember it like it was yesterday. My mother and I were walking by the sea when we found two gravely injured people."
"But aside from their injuries, they were also carrying a highly contagious disease."
"Before we knew it, the illness spread across the entire town."
"My mother managed to create a cure, but there was only enough for three doses due to limited materials."
"The strangers, being the first infected, received the first two doses. The third was given to me."
"They promised to go out and procure more materials for the cure, but instead, they sold us out to the World Government."
Rim's voice grew cold, filled with venomous hatred.
"The World Government has a strict policy on infectious diseases. If someone reports an incurable outbreak, they are heavily rewarded."
"And if the disease is deemed uncontainable, the government sends forces to eradicate the entire area."
"Those two bastards, for the sake of their reward, killed the only person who could make the cure—my mother!"
"I was hiding in a box when I saw it all happen with my own eyes. They murdered her in cold blood."
"Later, I escaped by jumping into the sea and was rescued by a passing merchant ship. That's how I ended up in the New World."
"Eventually, I found out those two became pirate captains in the New World. I tried to get revenge but nearly died in the process."
"After that, I joined the Beast Pirates."
By now, Rim had calmed down, his emotions subdued. He glanced at Master and continued:
"The reason I know so much about Ivankov is because I heard of her during my journey on the Grand Line."
"She's a doctor like my mother but accomplished what my mother couldn't—she saved countless people abandoned by other doctors, even entire nations on the brink of destruction."
"That's why I admire her."
"I see," Jack nodded thoughtfully before turning to Master. "From what Rim says, Ivankov seems to be a compassionate doctor. Why did she turn you into a man?"
Master, who had just started to calm down, flared up again at Jack's question.
"That freak! She wanted me to join her!"
"When I refused, she turned me into a man to threaten me!"
Rim frowned, interrupting. "Huh? I've never met her, but from what I've heard, she doesn't seem like the unreasonable type."
"Uh..." Master hesitated, looking embarrassed. "She actually offered to help me change back, but I refused..."
Master scratched his head awkwardly, a sheepish grin on his face.
"Well, I was young back then and wanted to see what it was like to be a man. But now I realize it's not for me—I don't want to be a man anymore."
"Then why are you so angry?! You brought this on yourself!" Jack shouted at him before stroking his chin in thought. "Wait, why did Ivankov want you to join her? Was it for some kind of doctors' alliance?"
Master shook his head, still puzzled. "There was a man with her named Dragon. He said they were inviting me to join their Revolutionary Army as a comrade."
"They talked about fighting for freedom and uniting people who shared their ideals."
"I wasn't interested, so I refused."
"Revolutionary Army? Dragon? Fighting for freedom?" Jack muttered, trying to piece it together. Then he suddenly remembered something and turned to Master.
"You said Ivankov could turn you back into a woman. Can she also turn men into women?"
"Of course!" Master answered without hesitation. "I've seen it with my own eyes. She turned an ugly man into a beautiful woman!"
"She can even change her own gender back and forth!"
What kind of Devil Fruit is that? If she existed in my old world, she'd be a savior in places like Thailand or India.
But in this world? I hope I never cross paths with her!
