Chapter 48: Chapter 48: I’m Really Pissed Right Now
"Alright, alright!"
"Let's set aside your wedding plans for later. And forget about that Ivankov business for now!"
Jack pointed at the dozen large crates stacked behind Master.
"What's with all these gold and jewels? What are you planning to do with them?"
"And what's this 'eternal life ritual' I've been hearing about? Are you seriously claiming you can make people immortal?"
Master was just about to reply when a loud commotion erupted from the castle. The gates swung open with a bang.
"Catch them! Don't let them escape!"
"By order of His Majesty!"
Seeing the dozens of torch-wielding soldiers storming out, Master paled and muttered nervously,
"We need to run! If they catch us, we're dead meat!"
"Dead? Rim," Jack smirked, turning to the swordswoman. "Now that you're all healed up, why don't you show Master what you're capable of?"
"While you're at it, make sure she knows who's calling the shots once you two settle down!"
Rim wanted to protest, but seeing the frightened look on Master's face, a mischievous idea crept into her mind.
"Man, I could make even a guy like this weak in the knees. But if I turned back into a woman... hmm..."
She wiped a trickle of blood from her nose, drew her sword, and raised it high. After a brief moment of concentration, a brilliant slash of energy lit up the night sky, crashing down before the soldiers could react.
"Moonlight Slash!"
The attack left only a handful of survivors, and the castle gates were cleaved clean in two.
Watching the display, Jack silently gauged the attack's power.
Could I withstand a blow like that? he wondered.
By his estimation, Rim was now on par with Ashura Doji from Wano, maybe even stronger. In the past, his expertise with Armament Haki had always been undermined by his frail body and limited reserves. His battles were short-lived because of it.
But now... that slash wasn't just powerful. It showed an immense mastery of Haki.
Though Jack hadn't reached that level of swordsmanship himself, he'd heard Kaido and King talk about it. A swordsman who could unleash cutting waves with their attacks could be called a "Sword Master."
Someone like Ashura Doji in Wano qualified as one. And now, so did Rim.
Is that the next level for me? Jack thought, feeling a surge of anticipation. With his robust physique, he imagined standing a hundred meters away and—
Wait. He shook his head. I use a club, not a sword. So would it be… "Club Master"?
..."Club Master" sounded lame. Jack dismissed the thought, rolling his eyes. The system had already classified his club skills under swordsmanship anyway. Why overthink it?
He glanced at Master, who was still gaping in awe at Rim's display. Leaning in, Jack asked in a low voice,
"So? Spill it. What's the deal with this eternal life ritual? Can you really make someone immortal?"
...
Jack's skin crawled as he noticed Master staring at Rim with wide, adoring eyes.
Sis... or bro? Whatever you are now, you're a guy. Don't look at her like that. My eyes are going to burn!
"Ahem," Jack coughed awkwardly. "Master, I get it—you're smitten with Rim. But tone it down a bit, will you? Don't forget your current gender! You'll scare him off!"
"Don't worry," he added with a smirk. "I'll ask Kaido to track down that Ivankov for you. Once you're a woman again, you and Rim can live happily ever after. But until then, keep your distance!"
Master turned, wiping the drool from his mouth and muttering sheepishly, "Thanks… and, um... about the eternal life ritual..."
"It's fake."
Jack had expected as much, but hearing it confirmed still stung a little. Immortality was just too tantalizing an idea to ignore.
Master, sensing Jack's disappointment, hurriedly explained, "I just wanted to scam a bit of money. With my Purification Fruit powers, the kings believed whatever I said about eternal life."
Pointing at the crates, she continued, "These gold and jewels were collected by the kings for the ritual. I planned to drug their meals tonight and escape through a secret tunnel, just in case someone hadn't eaten. I've even got a carriage hidden in the woods and a ship waiting at the port. Everything was ready... until you guys showed up."
...
Jack glanced at the makeshift cart under the crates and snorted.
"You're pretty thorough. So the reason these kings dared to break their pact with the Beasts Pirates... it's all because of you?"
"Unbelievable... but I guess it's not all bad." He sighed.
They hadn't really lost anything and had gained a port—and a Purification Fruit user.
But those women…
Looking at the group of shy young ladies clinging to Master, Jack's curiosity piqued.
"Who are they? Your women? If that's the case..."
"No!" Master yelped, flustered. "I mean, not really. They're just under my protection."
"These girls come from noble families but were treated like pawns for political marriages. I pretended to be a lecher to rescue them."
Her gaze softened as she turned to Rim.
"We call each other sisters. If you don't mind, Rim, while I'm still... like this... I'll leave my little sisters to take care of you. I'm sure they won't object."
Rim glanced at the blushing girls and grinned.
"Sure! Sounds good to me!"
Rim, you fool! Jack thought. That's as good as agreeing to marry her!
Still, looking at the charming young ladies, even Jack felt a twinge of envy. They might not be two meters tall yet, but they'd grow. And if they didn't? At four meters tall, Rim probably wouldn't cause any... accidents.
Unlike himself.
Jack sighed. At thirteen, he was already over four meters tall. How much taller would he get? What if he hit ten meters? His daily life would become a nightmare—and finding a wife would be even worse. Would he be stuck marrying a giantess?
He grimaced. No, better not to think about it.
Just then, a new group emerged from the castle, led by several men wearing crowns.
"There she is! Catch that conniving woman!"
"She dared to deceive us! Tear her apart!"
Jack stepped forward, blocking Rim's path. His grip tightened on his spiked club as his eyes gleamed red.
"Perfect timing," he growled. "I'm really pissed right now!"
