Shiny Pidgeot wanted to refuse.
He didn't want to be Evan's Pokémon.
Sure, being guided by Evan had its perks, but Shiny Pidgeot wanted a life he could be proud of.
So, he started to argue with Evan.
"Pidge pi!"
"Pidge!"
"Pidgeot!"
…
"Stop the chirping," Evan said, a little impatient. "Be my Pokémon, and you'll gain fame and fortune. Besides, the rewards are yours too."
He continued, "You'll grow stronger. What's the point of being just a leader here?"
"When you're powerful enough, even your leader will have to listen to you."
Noticing Shiny Pidgeot's defiant expression, Evan decided to remind him of this.
This bird wanted to lead?
If it got strong enough, even its leader would respect its power.
Hearing Evan's words, Shiny Pidgeot hesitated for a moment.
After a bit of thought, he realized Evan had a point.
Yes, if he became strong enough, everyone here would have to listen to him—not just his leader, but every Pokémon in the forest.
With that, he decided. He could get stronger with a Trainer and reach his dreams. Why not?
Seeing Shiny Pidgeot agree, Evan immediately took out a Poké Ball.
"Come on in!"
Shiny Pidgeot looked at the Poké Ball without a second thought. He stretched out his wing, touched it, and was absorbed in a Shiny Pidgeot of red light.
The Poké Ball barely shook, blinking a few times before it settled.
With Shiny Pidgeot's capture complete, Evan was in a great mood.
He put the Poké Ball away and addressed the Pokémon gathered around him.
"As for the rest of you here, you'll all be in charge from now on," Evan said.
"You should talk to them about what's coming."
"Soon, we'll be working on construction here, so tell everyone not to worry."
"This area will become a large orchard, with fruit trees planted all over."
"Let them know that once the orchard is ready, they'll help manage it."
"Keep an eye out, too, and make sure no outside Pokémon cause trouble here."
"And I'll provide you all with energy cubes."
"Understand?"
Evan gathered the leaders of the three groups and explained the plan again, using his Psychic powers to communicate clearly.
Hearing Evan's words, Beedrill and Butterfree nodded eagerly.
They were confident they could manage the other Pokémon in the forest.
Seeing their agreement, Evan added:
"If any Pokémon refuse to go along with this, ask them to leave."
"Just drive them away."
"The area will be fenced off soon," Evan explained. "Just make sure our protected zone stays safe from outside Pokémon."
"Oh, and if any dragon-type Pokémon show up, or anything unusual, be sure to let me know!"
…
Evan continued explaining. After the construction was complete, he said he'd set up a designated spot for food, where they could gather, or he'd have the leaders distribute it.
Anyone who got hungry could go there to eat.
Since they were helping, it only made sense to ensure they were well-fed.
Evan also asked them to gather fruits from around the mountain and bring them to him. He could then process these fruits into energy cubes for them to eat.
To be honest, it was the Pidgey that had the bigger appetites. As for the Caterpie and Weedle, they could make do with leaves, so Evan didn't have to worry about them—unless they evolved into Butterfree or Beedrill.
Making enough energy cubes wasn't difficult; a single batch could last them several days.
In the entire forest area, there weren't even a hundred Pokémon, so providing for them was manageable.
He could make thousands of cubes at a time, enough to keep everyone fed for quite a while.
None of them were big eaters, really.
One or two energy cubes were enough to satisfy them. Very easy to care for.
With his instructions complete, Evan headed back, ready to let construction begin and start his preparations.
When he returned to the orphanage, he was immediately surrounded by a group of curious kids, with Sophia right at the front.
"Evan, what happened just now?"
"Did you have a conflict with those Pokémon?"
"Are you okay?"
…
"Did Evan get hurt?" one of the children exclaimed.
"Let me check!" another offered.
"Move aside! Call an ambulance!"
Listening to all their worried questions, Evan was at a loss for words.
"Alright, alright," he said with a smile.
"Calm down."
"Are you all kidding me?" Evan said, shaking his head. "You really think I'm in trouble?"
He gave a light thump on the head to the kid who was about to call an ambulance. "You'd really call an ambulance? I'm perfectly fine! What are you thinking?"
Hearing this, everyone immediately relaxed, looking a bit embarrassed.
They had all been alarmed by the explosion earlier. Even though Garchomp had returned to assure them everything was fine, some of them had still been worried. After all, it was a Pokémon battle.
Now, it was clear everything was okay.
Sophia breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness."
"Pikachu must be really strong," she said with a smile. "Has it evolved already, Evan?"
She glanced at the Pikachu on Evan's shoulder, seeming to have an epiphany.
The other kids picked up on this, too. Had Pikachu evolved? Their eyes lit up with excitement.
Evan shook his head.
"It wasn't Pikachu," he said. "I actually caught a new Pokémon."
With that, he released the Shiny Pidgeot Pidgeot he had just captured.
A Shiny Pidgeot of light filled the air, and under the sun's rays, a golden-feathered Pidgeot appeared in front of them all.
Seeing the golden sheen on its feathers, several kids' eyes went wide with amazement.
Sophia was equally astonished.
"A Shiny…? A Shiny Pidgeot?"
She was genuinely shocked.
A Shiny Pokémon here?
"Pii~!" Pidgeot chirped proudly as it took in the stunned faces around it.
It raised its head with a look of superiority, gazing at the crowd with disdain.
Humans—had they really never seen a Pokémon this magnificent?
Pidgeot was very confident in its appearance.
Many humans it had encountered looked at it as though it were a rare, priceless treasure.
Despite having been cast out from its own flock as a chick, its self-assurance remained unshaken.
At the very least, humans seemed to think it was incredibly impressive.
