Pokemon: I am Gary

Chapter 54: Chapter 54: The Power of Viridian and Giovanni

The abandoned power plant in Gringey City was located in a corner of the city, a human forbidden zone. Originally a very remote ruin, it was now occupied by powerful Electric-type Pokémon. It could be described as a silent, terrifying structure.

"Beep!" An Elekid swung its arms wildly, unleashing a powerful Thunderbolt! Boom! A thick bolt of lightning struck down upon a towering figure, who casually scratched his chest, seemingly feeling a bit itchy—

"Enough of this—Rhyperior, take care of it." A deep, domineering voice commanded.

"Roar!!" The massive rock cannon fired explosively as Elekid leaped up, its right hand gathering white fighting energy for a strike! Crack! The massive rock cannon was split in two. However, before Elekid could celebrate, a second rock cannon followed swiftly. Boom! Elekid was hit head-on and knocked to the ground.

"Bzz…" Gritting its teeth, Elekid struggled to hold on but soon collapsed in defeat. Behind Elekid, several Magnemite and a Magneton were also down on the ground. A golden flash bounced back and forth among them before finally stopping at the feet of a figure.

"Well done, Beedrill!" The man in a black suit stroked his slicked-back hair, revealing an evil smile. "See that, Rhyperior? This is what you call professionalism!"

"Boss Giovanni" said his secretary Matori, adjusting her glasses calmly, "according to accurate intel from the team, this Zapdos is likely around level 90. Should we notify the nearby executives to bring in Kashas?"

Giovanni cast a cold glance at Matori, causing her to immediately fall silent. The Four Commanders were far away in Johto expanding their branch; only the masked Kashas, who followed Giovanni into battle in Kanto, remained. However, this guy's ambition was practically written all over his face; Giovanni didn't have the confidence to leave his back exposed to him.

"No need to say more. Have the action team outside keep watch. Also, prepare the helicopter for immediate evacuation." Looking at the Electric-type Pokémon lying uselessly on the ground, Giovanni's gaze deepened. "I don't believe you won't come back to save them. Come out, Zapdos!"

Rumble~ Above Gringey City, heavy cumulonimbus clouds gradually gathered as golden electric snakes surged through the dark clouds...

"What?! Yes!" Matori's face darkened as she answered a phone call. "Giovanni, the outer troops… have been completely annihilated!"

Giovanni's eyes lit up. "Good! That's strong enough; let me see what you've got! The power of lightning!"

Crack! Thunder shattered the darkness before him as a golden bird enveloped in electricity slowly descended onto the factory's roof. Matori wisely retreated outside the factory.

With a wave of his hand, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, and Rhyperior appeared before him. "Come on, Zapdos, submit to me!!"

With eyes like lightning, Zapdos dove straight down!! A golden figure suddenly shot out from the side!

"Caw!" Zapdos cried out in pain as it received a deep wound on its back. Giovanni's eyes gleamed with intensity. "How do you like my welcoming gift?"

Surrounded by flickering electric light, Zapdos unleashed a golden electric field around itself. Giovanni's expression changed. "Take it down!"

"Caw!!" Wrapped in golden plasma, Zapdos transformed into an electric divine bird and dove down again! Nidoking and Rhyperior charged forward to meet it head-on! Boom! Waves of impact spread out as Giovanni waved his hand; his Persian used Protect to shield them.

The energy clash continued relentlessly as he watched his Protect shield crack under pressure; Giovanni's eyes widened in disbelief. Three level 85 Ground-type Pokémon couldn't take down one single Zapdos? Giovanni realized he might have bitten off more than he could chew!

Crack! Thunder roared once more, accompanied by endless might as three figures fell engulfed in black smoke. The entire factory fell into silence... Departing from the Pokémon Center, Gary Oak (小茂) felt ambitious and determined to grind experience at the power plant.

Although the weather was uncooperative with heavy thunderclouds rolling in before he even reached the plant, looking at the dark clouds and rising winds, he donned his cloak. "A piece of cake; just consider it practice for battling in rain!" Riding on his Arcanine, he scoffed dismissively.

"Woof!" Arcanine suddenly stopped and looked fearfully toward the abandoned factory not far away. "What's wrong, Arcanine?" Gary frowned. Arcanine was synonymous with bravery and fearlessness among Pokémon. Even when facing opponents several levels higher, it would charge forward with ferocity. Yet now, Gary sensed its fear!

"What's happening?" Curiously looking at his hands, just moments ago he had placed his hand on Arcanine's head and truly felt its emotions. Boom!! A golden beam shot up into the sky; even from hundreds of meters away, Gary could see it clearly!

"Arcanine, don't be afraid; let's go check it out!" Gary frowned. Arcanine raised its head and whimpered softly before biting down hard and sprinting toward the energy center with Gary riding along.

Entering the factory interior revealed exaggerated battle scars among debris that left Gary puzzled. "Wow! What happened here?" The air crackled with static electricity as he jumped off Arcanine to survey the dark ruins inside the factory.

Crash! Suddenly rocks shifted as an injured Beedrill crawled out from beneath rubble before collapsing onto the ground again. Gary looked around at the wreckage and scattered Electric-type Pokémon lying unconscious alongside three massive figures charred black—he felt numb all over.

Clearly, a brutal battle had taken place here. Buzz~ A new green light glowed from where Beedrill had emerged; cautiously approaching through debris,

Thud thud! Suddenly Gary felt his heart racing uncontrollably as a cool energy flowed throughout his body! He watched closely as green energy dispersed into the air from within debris before gathering back at his heart!

"Ah~" Gary couldn't help but moan softly while Arcanine stuck out its tongue and leaned closer to him with sleepy eyes squinting shut contentedly. Only when the light within the rubble dimmed did Gary return to normalcy.

"Phew~ Although I don't know what just happened, it should be a good thing." Confused yet intrigued he continued forward inspecting further into debris piles.

"Oh crap!" A disheveled man lay buried beneath rubble—it was none other than the unconscious Giovanni!

"So this feeling earlier wasn't just…?" Gary froze momentarily. Although he had heard that Giovanni had received blessings from Viridian Forest, gaining powers from there—actually encountering him and unexpectedly receiving such power left Gary feeling bewildered for a moment.

Why did this power leave Giovanni while choosing him instead? But those weren't important now; looking at Giovanni lying there left Gary conflicted inside. Logically speaking—a notorious crime lord like him lying unconscious right before him—with just a little effort or some rope—tch tch—a grand finale for Kanto...

But is it really that easy?

"I wonder if he's dead." Sighing heavily, Gary leaned closer to check for signs of breath from Giovanni. Fortunately, although weakly breathing—it seemed he wasn't dead yet.

"What should I do now?" Gary scratched his head; killing Giovanni might feel good temporarily, but who knows if someone crazier would take over after him? After all—compared to causing trouble—Giovanni preferred making money… For this reason alone—Gary thought perhaps he should spare him...

Moreover—regardless of anything else—he had just inherited someone else's extraordinary power—the legendary Viridian Power that stands alongside Super Ability and Wave Guidance! Taking someone else's life feels wrong; now that he had this power bestowed upon him—Gary felt somewhat uneasy about going through with it all too quickly...

"Forget it; I'll deal with future matters later. Not saving someone when they're dying isn't my style." He pulled out bandages and began wrapping up wounds on Giovanni carefully. The visible high-voltage burns required extensive bandaging; wrapping Giovanni completely like an Egyptian mummy—even skillfully tying a bow on top of his head for good measure!

Looking at how absurdly transformed Giovanni appeared now made Gary feel satisfied as he clapped his hands together triumphantly. Taking out a potion meant for Pokémon healing purposes—he poured it directly into Giovanni's mouth before finally stopping his actions there.

Finding Poké Balls tucked away within Giovanni's pockets—he recalled four of his Pokémon inside them—Gary felt he had done enough kindness for now. "Phew~" Just when he planned to contemplate what Viridian Power meant for himself—a heavy breath next to him startled Gary almost jumping up!

"Who are you?" Despite being unable to move at all—Giovanni immediately fixed his gaze upon Gary with intensity shining through his eyes.

Gary shrugged casually: "Let me introduce myself; I'm Green, just passing by here while saving you! Mr. Giovanni."

"Green~ You know me?" Giovanni slightly closed his eyes while sensing things around him. "As expected—it has abandoned me."

Gary took two steps back cautiously speaking up: "You're known as Kanto's underground emperor; I've heard somewhat about you." Seeing Gary's demeanor made Giovanni sigh deeply. "No need to be afraid; I can't harm you right now."

"That's true~" With casual confidence—Gary plopped down beside Giovanni asking: "So how did you end up unconscious here?"

Giovanni stared blankly at the ceiling tiles above while sighing again: "Ahh… because of Zapdos."

"You encountered Zapdos?!" Gary exclaimed wide-eyed; wasn't that supposed to be an easily found legendary Pokémon? How could it beat Giovanni so badly?

"Haha~ There was misinformation—I faced off against Zapdos wielding divine domain powers. My Pokémon were gravely injured and near death… Luckily I ran into you." For an instant—the usually fierce demeanor softened within Giovanni's gaze, briefly revealing vulnerability beneath layers of bravado.

"Well then… since you survived—I'll take my leave now." Who knows when Team Rocket might come looking for their boss? For now—Gary wasn't keen on sticking around risking becoming their scapegoat either...

"Haha… what an interesting trainer you are! Here's what I need you to do: help me find my emergency communicator in my pocket then retrieve whatever else is left." Despite being completely immobilized—the essence of authority still radiated from Giovanni unmistakably commanding respect even now amidst vulnerability displayed openly!

"Okay~ But don't forget your gratitude towards me or else my Arcanine will definitely bite your head off long before you can retaliate," Gary joked lightly while reaching into Giovanni's pockets searching through them thoroughly until—

Soon enough—a button-like transmitter appeared along with an emblem bearing Team Rocket's dark gold insignia plus a small notebook surfaced into view held tightly within Gary's grasp! "This one right?" He shook up the transmitter playfully showing off proudly!

"Correct! Pressing this will summon my subordinates here within ten minutes," explained Giovanni calmly without flinching even slightly despite dire circumstances surrounding them both right now. "As for remaining two items—they're my tokens of gratitude."

"The emblem? What does this do?" Gary furrowed his brows scrutinizing both items curiously still puzzled by implications behind them all…

"That emblem signifies me as leader amongst Team Rocket members; holding onto it means anytime anywhere finding local Team Rocket members will lead them straight towards me. As my savior—I'll grant three requests within my capabilities…" declared Giovanni earnestly looking straight into Gary's eyes emphasizing sincerity behind every word spoken aloud clearly intending no deception whatsoever involved here…

Raising an eyebrow intrigued—Gary accepted the emblem placing it safely into his pocket while lifting the notebook next: "And what about this?"

"Hehe~ That's my trainer notes—but I won't need them anymore so consider it yours too," reminiscing fondly over memories attached therein brought a bittersweet smile across his lips revealing genuine warmth hidden beneath the hardened exterior façade built over years spent navigating treacherous paths chosen deliberately throughout life lived thus far…

The legendary trainer known as 'Giovanni' would no longer exist beyond today… Without wasting time further—Gary hopped atop Arcanine readying himself for departure pressing the transmitter button leaving behind only words spoken softly echoing through empty space between them both lingering long after departure occurred…

"See ya later old man!" Watching Green fade away into the distance—Giovanni smirked slightly curling his lips upwards forming a genuine smile across his face reflecting amusement experienced during brief encounter earlier shared together…

"A fascinating fellow indeed! Green~ Haha! Truly deserving name befitting one blessed by Viridian Forest itself!"

Meanwhile, departing swiftly from the power plant site—Gary casually flipped open the notebook flipping through pages discovering intriguing contents therein revealing secrets pertaining to earth-shattering knowledge hidden away waiting patiently until discovered finally…

"Oh boy! This could be quite fun…" shaking his head lightly amusedly pondering implications ahead while realizing regardless whether willing or not—it seemed fate had intertwined paths forevermore binding together their destinies henceforth…
