"It was a very exciting battle. Your tactical understanding and grasp of the situation were Excellent. You truly deserve this, Boulder Badge."
After recalling his Onix, Brock gave a sincere and high evaluation of Tyson's performance.
"You're too kind. I still have a lot to learn and improve upon," Tyson replied humbly, receiving the badge with both hands.
His modesty, despite the victory, left an even stronger impression on Brock.
After Tyson left the Pewter Gym, Brock recorded his evaluation in the official trainer log. Future gym leaders Tyson challenges will reference this record, and it might even be considered if he decides to join the league's investigator corps or other official systems.
"You two did amazing today! Let me treat you to a feast as a reward," Tyson said, patting the heads of his Charmeleon and Eevee affectionately.
They left the gym in high spirits and soon found a cozy-looking restaurant. Tyson ordered an impressive spread, confident that his Pokémon would help him finish the meal. With his financial needs accounted for by Shadow, Tyson had no concerns about running out of funds.
"Let's take this with us. We can eat the rest at the Pewter Museum," Tyson said after they'd eaten their fill. Despite initially overestimating his team's appetites, he couldn't bear to waste the leftover food.
Before entering the museum, Tyson returned the sleepy Abra to its Poké Ball. Despite its hefty appetite and relaxed demeanor, Abra somehow maintained its sleek appearance.
Inside the Pewter Museum of Science, the aura of ancient history was palpable. Among the exhibits, the fossils of Aerodactyl and Kabutops stood out the most.
The ferocious energy of Aerodactyl, a top predator of ancient times, was almost tangible even through its fossilized remains. Tyson and his Charmeleon lowered their voices instinctively as they browsed the exhibits.
Before leaving, Tyson took a final look at the Aerodactyl fossil, recalling Ash's legendary encounter with a living Aerodactyl and Kabutops on a small island. He also remembered that technology to resurrect fossilized Pokémon would eventually emerge, though it was still far from being publicly available.
"Could this technology already exist in secret?" Tyson wondered. "If so, does that mean Mega Evolution Stones and Z-Crystals are already known to the upper echelons of the Pokémon world?"
He sighed. The idea of collecting a trove of Mega Evolution Stones seemed far less plausible now, knowing how fiercely they'd be sought by powerful organizations like the Pokémon League or Team Rocket. Still, Tyson resolved not to dwell on it. As long as he became strong enough, he'd find other ways to acquire what he needed.
"Let's go train!"
Back at the Pokémon Center, Tyson, energized by his reflections, decided against resting. Instead, he threw himself and his Pokémon into rigorous training. Charmeleon and Eevee quickly entered the groove, while Abra continued to snooze contentedly.
Time flew by, and before Tyson knew it, the tournament he'd signed up for was about to begin. The matches were held just outside Pewter City on a series of simple battlefields outlined with white lines.
The preliminaries divided contestants into eight groups, each aiming to narrow down to the top four, creating a pool of 32 trainers for the semifinals. With multiple battles happening simultaneously, the event was both efficient and exciting.
After receiving his assigned number, Tyson followed the match table to his battlefield. Fortunately, he was scheduled to battle early, giving him a chance to observe potential opponents later.
"Ding! Challenge mission activated!"
The system's notification chimed in Tyson's mind as he stepped onto the battlefield. "From now on, defeating an opponent will earn you mission points."
Tyson smirked. When he'd signed up for the tournament, he'd hoped it would trigger a mission. It seemed his guess was spot on.
"Looks like this is a great chance to grow even stronger," Tyson thought as he analyzed the system's explanation. The mission points rewarded would correspond to the defeated Pokémon's strength level, just like in battles.
As the referee announced the start of the match, Tyson and his opponent, Elle, released their Pokémon. Tyson didn't hesitate to call on his strongest partner, Charmeleon.
Elle's choice, a confident-looking Staravia, took to the field with a sharp cry.
Reviewing Charmeleon's panel, Tyson saw an opportunity to further hone its strength. He issued his commands with renewed enthusiasm.
"Ding! Mission completed. Points have been distributed."
The system's confirmation rang in his mind as the match began in earnest, marking the start of Tyson's journey through the intense competition.
