Chapter 66: Chapter 67: A Gift of Kindness
Clefairy gazed intently at Pikachu, particularly at the food in Pikachu's tiny hands. It had never seen anything like it before. Though unfamiliar, the enticing aroma made Clefairy instinctively curious.
"Pikapika..." Pikachu, noticing Clefairy's cautious movements, smiled and remained completely still. It understood Clefairy's feelings, as it had once been in a similar situation. Pikachu knew any sudden motion might scare Clefairy away.
Clefairy kept its eyes fixed on Pikachu's actions. Realizing Pikachu wasn't moving, Clefairy gradually stepped closer until it was right in front of Pikachu. Its sparkling eyes were locked on the food in Pikachu's hands.
"Pika…" Pikachu gently extended its paws, offering the food to Clefairy with a kind expression, encouraging it to taste the treat.
Ash, Misty, and Brock observed silently from a distance, careful not to make any noise that might startle Clefairy.
"Skin…" Clefairy held its Moon Stone tightly in one hand while cautiously using its other hand to take the food. It alternated its gaze between Pikachu and the item in its grasp.
"Pikachu, Pika-pika!" Pikachu chirped happily, assuring Clefairy that the food was delicious.
"Clefairy…" Clefairy sniffed the food, its nose twitching slightly, before taking a tentative bite. The rich flavors of mixed berries burst forth, delighting Clefairy's taste buds. Its eyes lit up with joy, and it began hopping excitedly in place.
"Great! It's eating!" Misty clapped her hands in delight, watching Clefairy's jubilant reaction. "It's so adorable!"
"Pikapika!" Pikachu invited Clefairy to join Ash and the others, signaling that they were friendly and had plenty of food to share.
"Clefairy—!" Clefairy, seemingly swayed by the delicious food, followed Pikachu to the group. However, it hesitated upon seeing the humans and Pokémon gathered by the fire, recalling its parents' warning not to approach humans so easily.
"Don't worry, we're not bad people," Ash said softly, placing another small bag of Pokémon food in front of Clefairy. His tone and actions were gentle, hoping to reassure the little Pokémon.
Misty watched with longing, clearly wanting to hug Clefairy but restraining herself. Brock, meanwhile, observed Clefairy carefully. He was intrigued by the Moon Stone it held but refrained from commenting on its significant value.
Clefairy sniffed the new bag of food and brightened immediately. These were the same delicious treats as before, and now there were even more! Overwhelmed with happiness, Clefairy began eating eagerly.
"It must have been very hungry," Brock said thoughtfully. "It's probably waiting for its parents to return with food. The scent must have drawn it here."
Ash filled a small cup of water and placed it beside Clefairy, who drank it without hesitation. Its previous wariness had faded, and it ate and drank contentedly.
Misty's eyes sparkled as she watched. "It would be amazing to have a Clefairy. It's so cute!"
Brock shook his head slightly. "If you want to catch a Clefairy, you need its approval, especially one this young. Its parents are likely nearby, and they wouldn't let their child be taken so easily. That's why so few Trainers have Clefairy."
After finishing the food, Clefairy let out a satisfied sigh. Its belly was adorably round, and it lay down on a rock, resembling a lifelike plush doll.
"It's so full now," Ash chuckled, reaching out to gently pat Clefairy's head. Surprisingly, Clefairy didn't mind and even nuzzled his palm affectionately.
"I want to pet it too!" Misty exclaimed, moving closer. When she reached out, Clefairy allowed her to stroke its head as well.
Brock, however, remained focused on observing Clefairy's behavior. He noted how its movements became more relaxed after eating, a detail he promptly recorded in his notebook. As a dedicated Pokémon Breeder, Brock found moments like these invaluable for his learning.
"Pi… Clefairy!" Clefairy stood up after a brief rest and chirped softly toward the group, as if expressing its gratitude.
"You're welcome. You're such a sweet Pokémon," Misty said, though there was a hint of sadness in her voice. She didn't want to say goodbye.
Clefairy hesitated for a moment, then glanced at the Moon Stone it was holding. After some thought, it stepped forward and presented the stone to Ash with both hands.
"This… is for us?" Ash was taken aback, hardly believing that such a valuable item was being offered to them.
"Clefairy—!" Clefairy nodded enthusiastically. When Ash accepted the Moon Stone, Clefairy pointed at the now-empty food bag and looked at him expectantly.
"Ah, I get it. You want more food!" Ash smiled, filling not just one but two bags with Pokémon food. Compared to the Moon Stone's worth, the food was a small price to pay.
Clefairy happily accepted the two bags, which were almost as tall as itself. After a cheerful goodbye, it hopped away with its treasure. It seemed confident that its parents would understand the exchange: food in return for the Moon Stone.
"Wow, I didn't expect that!" Ash said, holding the Moon Stone. "I'm definitely not going to sell this. Even if I can't use it, this was Clefairy's gift to us."
"Good deeds really do come back to you," Misty said with a smile, feeling grateful for the unexpected encounter.
Brock nodded, writing in his notebook again. "When treated with kindness, Pokémon will always show their appreciation in return."
The group watched as Clefairy disappeared into the distance, leaving behind a memory they would treasure forever.
