Chapter 4: The Tides of Blood in War
Raevhen asked why Arima's clothes were soaked with sweat, and Jayce replied, "I saw Arima working out his body, but he didn't tell me that. Instead, he said he was practicing swinging his wooden sword." His face looked happy, and he seemed a little proud. "Time flies, huh?" he added.
When Arima woke up, his body ached. Every muscle felt like it was crumbling. He tried to stand up from his bed, but his stomach also hurt due to the workout he had done earlier. He reached for something to hold onto and managed to lift his body. When he finally stood up and checked outside, he saw that it was already dark. , and he notice that his clothes had been changed. His body felt sore and weak from the intense workout earlier. He checked his status in the system, and a blue screen appeared in front of him. Searching through the system, he found the dagger he had received earlier. He pulled it out from the blue screen, and as he held it, he noticed it felt light and perfect in his hand.
The dagger was razor-sharp, its blade a striking red, as if it had been designed for bloodshed. Arima was amazed as he stared at it, his eyes glinting with excitement. He could hardly wait to use it.
Before Arima went back to sleep, he stood up, remembering what the system had told him earlier. He was still curious about it, so he decided to check if everything the system said was true. He quietly checked to see if Raevhen and Jayce were asleep. When he confirmed they were, he immediately walked to the basement of their house, searching for the ladder.
Once he found it, he carefully lit it, as the ladder was light enough for Arima to lift with ease. He also grabbed a candle since the basement was dark. As he walked toward the basement, he accidentally hit a plate on the table, causing it to fall. But just before it hit the ground, he caught it, letting out a sigh of relief.
Arima placed the plates on the ground and picked up the candle. When he neared the basement, he went back to grab the ladder and positioned it into the hole leading down. Carefully, he climbed down into the basement.
The surroundings were pitch dark, and the only thing visible was the area illuminated by the candlelight. He walked slowly, checking his right and left as he searched for any hints about his father.
Arima saw three boxes close together at the edge. He hurried over and opened them one by one. He started with the one nearest to him, opening it carefully. As he did, cockroaches poured out, and in his shock, he accidentally dropped the box opener. However, the silence of the basement meant no one heard the noise. After regaining his composure, he carefully reopened the box. Inside, it was filled with paper.
He moved on to the next box, and once again, it was filled with paper, leaving him disappointed. He sighed before opening the last one. When he tried to open it, the box wouldn't budge. He checked the middle of the box and found it was locked. Searching for a key, he couldn't find one. Thinking quickly, he decided to try another way. He accessed his system, and a blue screen appeared. He pulled out his dagger, using the sharp tip to force the box open.
Slowly, he lifted the lid. Inside, he found a steel body armor and, next to it, a samurai sword. He tried to lift the sword, but it was too heavy for his small frame. He then noticed a piece of paper with important messages. As he read, the messages appeared dark and crucial. Before he could finish reading, he heard a noise above, and he quickly climbed the ladder. From outside their house, he heard a man's scream.
Arima immediately returned to his bed, and when he woke up in the morning, his first instinct was to check for his mother. However, she was nowhere to be found in the house, nor was his father. When he looked outside, he saw a crowd gathered near their house, full of people whispering about something that had happened.
Arima quickly ran out of the house to see what was going on with the crowd. Squeezing between people to get a better view, he saw the gruesome sight of a dead man. His body was covered in blood, his head was missing, and his upper body was full of stab wounds and numerous holes. Arima felt disgusted at the sight.
Just then, Raevhen, his mother, saw him and hurried over to cover his eyes. "What are you doing here?" she asked. Nearby, his father was slowly covering the body, and there were others helping to lift it. "Please, step aside," he said.
Before they returned to the house, Arima heard someone say, "The war is getting bigger; it's even reached this place." The fear in his voice was evident as he spoke.
Then, Raevhen shouted at Arima, "What are you doing here? Arima, don't leave the house carelessly!"
Arima asked his mother to tell him what had happened, hoping to know the truth. Raevhen replied, "The man is dead. He was part of the war, and somehow, it reached here." She added, "He was killed last night."
Arima then had a sudden realization when he heard the details about that night.
A few hours had passed since the crowd outside Arima's house had dispersed. The blood on the ground remained, and the dead had been taken to the capital of Cebu. The people outside were gone as well. Inside the house, Arima and Raevhen were organizing their belongings.
"Arima, can you take that candle near the kitchen?" Raevhen asked, noticing something unusual about the basement.
Then, when Arima took the candle and handed it to his mother, he asked, "What will you do with this candle, Mother?" Raevhen replied, "I noticed our basement seems like someone entered... or maybe I'm just imagining it." Arima felt nervous and mumbled, "Ma... maybe some rat just moved that," as he spoke.
"Maybe you're right," Raevhen said. She gave the candle back to Arima and added, "Take this candle back to the kitchen." Arima felt relieved and returned the candle to the kitchen.
Later, his father returned home, his shirt stained with blood. "How pitiful it is to die while doing nothing," he said, feeling pity for the man. Arima then went to Raevhen and whispered to her. Raevhen's face showed shock, and Arima was curious about what his father was talking about, Then, his father went to the room to change his clothes while Arima stood at the side, staring at him. Raevhen stood up and also went to the room.
Meanwhile, Arima remembered the system and the daily quest. While his parents weren't looking, he immediately ran out of the house, carrying his wooden sword. He ran far away, looking for a place to train. Then he saw a field to the right, the perfect place for him. He ran toward it, and after reaching it, he set aside his wooden sword. He opened the system, and a blue screen appeared:
[Daily Quest]
[Complete the following quests]
0/25 Push-ups
0/25 Sit-ups
0/25 Crunches
A moment later, after seeing the quest, Arima started doing push-ups
When Arima started it was still hard for him, but it felt a bit easier compared to yesterday. The same went for the other workouts. After finishing the push-up set, he moved on to squats. His legs still hurt, and it felt as if someone were
hugging his legs, making it hard to stand up with each rep. But he still finished it , and without resting, he started on the crunches. After finishing the set, he took a moment to rest and catch his breath. It was still hard, but unlike yesterday, this workout felt a bit easier now. "It's getting easier," he whispered.-
