Chapter 79 - Special Training (2)
Chapter 79
Special Training (2)
It’s been about three days since the training kicked off in earnest, and not a single person has made it through the villa.
But there was one good development.
The group has been growing rapidly. They’re finally starting to get the right mindset, and soon enough, perhaps some of them will get to pass.
*Crunch!*
The sound of crunching grass and the sight of three grimacing faces. He smiled widely at the sight of them.
“You came to the left this time, huh?”
“Shit, it’s this jerk again.”
“I told you we should have taken the path to the right!”
It was one of the small joys to be found in the training.
After a reasonable amount of time, they would switch locations.
Then occasionally the ones who tried to avoid him would find themselves in his path.
“Tsk, to hell with it! There’s no point in stalling.”
Three new recruits who had emerged from the forest charged simultaneously.
They were armed with a combination of sword, spear, and a staff.
The one in the back used his magic to go for his head, the one with the spear went for his lower body, and the one wielding the sword went for his heart.
Now they were beginning to mesh.
Their incoming attacks had incredible coordination.
They didn’t show any of those initial juvenile behaviors, and their attack carried the viciousness of someone who was serious about killing him.
*Slash!*
He cut down the fireball with his sword.
The burst of flames in the air blurred his vision for a moment, but he could sense the other two charging at him through his heightened senses.
With a simple leap, he landed on the spear and maneuvered himself on its surface, parrying the attack of the one with the sword.
He followed up by plunging his sword into the shoulder of the one clutching the spear. His feet hit the ground as the spear was dropped.
Immediately, the ground sunk deep, entrapping his feet. The guy with the sword ran at him, cackling like a lunatic.
“Finally…. got you!”
He unleashed a barrage of sword strikes.
Blocking all of them as they rained down, he used a Gust Slash to sweep them away.
A blast of wind whipped around.
He picked up the spear on the ground with his left hand and hurled it at the mage. The mage’s spell was released, as his concentration was broken.
Jumping back up to the surface, he finished the swordsman off, and then proceeded to take out the mage.
*Ooh!*
Mana surged through his earrings.
“Left area training done.”
-Acknowledged. We’ll be there soon.
After contacting the special transport unit, he looked at the downed group.
They had more intense bite than they had before, but it was still not enough. It was necessary to push them to a more extreme level.
“You three will be detained this evening. And you will be restricted to five hours of sleep.”
“But we didn’t eat last night!”
“No, really, don’t you have to feed us in good conscience? We’re starving to death.”
He smirked at them.
“Well, you’d better do well then.”
“Damn… it.”
*Gnash!*
He watched them gnash their teeth in anger, then turned to look at Mea¹, a special transport member that had appeared in a flash of white light.
Beside her was the Medical Director.
She went straight to the fallen recruits and used her divine power. The wounds he made have disappeared.
The Power of Divine Energy.
It was always fascinating to watch.
Suddenly, He remembered Manuel², the man he’d met when he captured the Necromancer. He must be looking for traitors hiding within the Holy Empire.
He wondered if he had found any leads.
Perhaps he ought to contact him some time soon.
“Sir Redin.”
He waved a hand as the medical chief approached him, having finished tending to the new recruits.
“I’m done.”
“I see, then take care!”
She took the new recruits and went to Mea’s side. Watching them disappear with a spell, he turned his attention back to the road ahead.
There would be another batch coming by now.
As he waited for them to arrive, he analyzed the battle that had just taken place. How could he move differently, to make it cleaner, and how could he have tackled the fight more effectively?
As he pondered and reflected on his knowledge of swordsmanship, his progress rate naturally increased.
[Swords Saint’s Enlightenment Acquisition Rate: 59.7%].
He had completely taken control of the battle. Exhaling heavily, he let out a breath to clear his mind.
“Huu…”
-The next wave is on their way.
Some time had passed since the call from the main camp. The new recruits who were supposed to show up were nowhere to be seen.
Are they planning something?
He was about to look up and check, but stopped short and shook his head. It wouldn’t hurt to see whatever they had planned firsthand.
A crisp breeze blew through the trees, rustling the leaves.
Suddenly, the wind stopped blowing.
For an instant, there was only silence.
He drew his sword and whirled around as a sticky sensation ran through his body. He saw Adela, who seemed to have approached him from nowhere.
“Ghost walk?”
Unfazed, Adela released a burst of energy and swung her sword.
*Clang!*
His senses were heightened as he repelled the incessant attack. Finding the other two would be the priority.
But it wasn’t that easy.
From the beginning, Adela launched a series of attacks. The sword pressed relentlessly into him, intent on reaching him.
*Skkrr!*
*Clang!*
As he drew up his mana, Adela increased hers in response. There was no hesitation in her every move.
The swordplay that he saw in the Great Hell War.
Flowers bloomed from Adela’s sword. The petals, a mixture of delicate and wild plants, fluttered and dazzled the eye.
There was no mercy in the blade.
It contained only the murderous intent to kill him.
‘Heh’
He used Storm Slash.
An instantaneous storm wiped out all the petals Adela had created, and right as he was about to cut her down.
Behind him, he sensed two creeping figures.
He stepped forward, aware of the silver-haired man and Fabian charging at him simultaneously. He subdued Adela’s arm and raised his sword.
The blade touched Adela’s neck.
Blood ran down the blade as it grazed her skin.
“What if one of your colleagues was taken hostage like this? What would you do?”
The silver-haired man and Fabian answered the question with their actions. They rushed at him, with all the ferocity they could muster.
As he pressed the edge of his sword harder, the trickle of blood increased.
But the silver-haired man and Fabian didn’t stop, and when they got close enough, the subdued Adela faded away.
Was it a secret technique.
Or perhaps teleportation?
There was no time to contemplate.
“You don’t know what’s what, do you?”
“I’m about to give you a taste of your own medicine!”
In the midst of all this rushing new recruits, He shifted his body, a combination of Storm Slash and Gale slash.
The swords of Fabian and the silver-haired man sliced through the afterimage that he had created.
“What the…”
” Danger….”
Passing them, he attacked Adela who was a good distance away.
*Slash!*
After removing the certain variables.
He clashed swords with the two remaining, applying pressure and waiting for a moment of vulnerability to end the fight.
“Awww!”
“That hurt like hell…”
‘Heh’
The recent battle was by far the best part of the training so far. He could definitely feel what kind of mindset they were in.
It gave him a lot to think about.
“You guys pass.”
“Huh?”
” Is that true?”
“Get healed and go to the villa and rest until the next training session.”

Time went by quickly.
After a week or so, those who were showing signs of limitation came out, and three of the new recruits left the island by boat.
Except for them, the rest of the group made it through the first round of training.
“How long has it been since I’ve had a proper meal….”
“It’s so fucking good, it’s bringing tears to my eyes.”
“And then there’s alcohol. Everyone worked hard. The instructors allowed us to indulge today, so let’s get wasted!”
Smiles bloomed on the faces of the new recruits who had finished their arduous training.
A break after all the suffering.
Nothing could make them happier.
Leaving the new recruits to enjoy the atmosphere, he made his way to Daylon’s office on the third floor.
*Knock!* *Knock!*
“It’s Redin.
“Come in.”
Stepping inside, he see parchments strewn across a large desk. Sitting in his chair, Daylon stretched and let out a loud yawn.
” Hmmm. You want something to drink, coffee?”
“I’ll make it.”
Using the coffee grounds and hot water next to him, he brewed two cups of coffee, handed one to Daylon, and sat down at one of the chairs.
*Sip!*
While sipping his coffee, he inquired.
“What are all these for?”
“Information on Magnes from Task Force headquarters. There’s a lot of it, because they scraped every last detail.”
He read through a few of them.
It listed crimes Magnes had committed to expand their operations, who they’d been in contact with, and chronological developments.
“This is the latest.”
Daylon handed over a piece of parchment.
-The current location of Magnes’s boss, Caius Badiola, is unknown.
-The most recent sighting of him was in the village of Poola, on the border of the Ravino and Crane Kingdoms.
-Last seen a month ago, after encountering Fire Ant and Brown Bear in the village of Poola, then vanished.
The two remaining captains of the Magnes.
They were known by their nicknames, Brown Bear and Fire Ant.
They are like brothers to the boss of Magnes, Caius. It could be said that they are even closer than blood brothers.
To capture Caius Badiola.
Just as he did with Terry, he needs to take out both Fire Ant and Brown Bear and all the nobles standing behind them.
In the in-game log, it was mentioned that after capturing the Brown Bear and Fire Ant, they were able to capture Caius.
“What about Brown Bear and Fire Ant?” he asked.
“According to an intel that Task Force One managed to slip in, they’ll be meeting soon.”
“Where are they supposed to be meeting?”
“I don’t know, because the informer who provided that information is dead.”
“Was there any kind of dying message?”
“No.”
The death of the informant meant that Magnes would now take the situation seriously and mobilize.
The proclamation of Cerberus’ establishment.
It must have affected them.
“I assume the reason the two of them are meeting is to talk about a full-scale war.”
“I suppose so. The people who blew up the Burning Hell and caused the prison break are not going to sit idly by.”
“We’ll move according to the Warden’s plan.”
A drawn plan by Rukel, the Warden of the Burning Hell.
“Understood. Magnes will try to kill us at every opportunity, and the nobles who aligned themselves with them will try to save themselves, which will create a rift between Magnes, and the nobles who aligned themselves with them, and we’ll take advantage of it and take them both out.”
“And how do we move?”
“Once the training’s over, we’ll split the new recruits into two groups, and I’ll take one and you’ll take the other, and we’ll target both of them at the same time.”
Daylon held out two pictures.
Fire Ant and Brown Bear.
“Who do you want to take?”
The one he had more information on was Brown Bear. So he grabbed the picture of Brown Bear.
“I’ll take the Brown Bear.”
“Then I guess I’ll have to take care of Fire Ant.”
Daylon handed him a thick piece of parchment from the clutter.
“It should have some information on Brown Bear. I want you to study it in your spare time, analyze it, and work out a detailed plan. It’s a hell of a planning task, right?”
“Okay. Is there anything else I should know?”
“The one behind him. Check the very last page.”
He flipped through the parchment to the very last page. There was a list of nobles who had joined hands with Brown Bear.
The name at the top of the list.
Count Dante of the Kingdom of Ravino.
A name he’d never heard of.
Daylon drained the last of his cooled coffee into his mouth.
“You need to watch out for this bastard.”
