Chapter 73: Planning Phase
"Now, with that issue resolved. I'll begin explaining the plan." Night Silver said, pointing to the map. "If you look here, this is the mountain we are currently on. Over here on one side is a large forest home to many creatures who will ultimately come to listen to me. So we don't need to worry about that." She began explaining, pointing to the spot then moved to point towards the other side of the mountain. "On this side there are vast plains, perfect for crop yields. And with that, we will have the ability to secure a source for stable food. Farming isn't too difficult, especially with a slight touch of magic involved. So to that end I'm going to teach magic that would be helpful for such projects first." She continued.
"Hmm, I… Mother Goddess, that is great and all, but are we meant to climb the mountain each time we need to cross between the sides? For the Winged-Humans, that may be easy. And even for the Elves it might be possible with relative ease. But us Dwarves aren't going to be able to do that. It would take a full day to pass over and that's if there were places to stop at." The Dwarven Leader asked, laying out his issues with the idea.
"And that is why I plan to carve a tall and wide tunnel through the base of the mountain." Night Silver responded with an answer that left everyone stunned.
It was one thing to talk about carving a small cave into the mountain's face. And an entirely other thing to talk about in a way that leads one to make a clear tunnel from one side to the other. Even so, they were not prepared for just how large the tunnel would be.
"Uhm, Sil, you do know this is a mountain we're talking about. Right?" Brightness asked, with a nearly similar degree of shock.
"Oh? You think it's impossible too? I don't think it'll be that hard. Nature tends to have ways and means to make such things happen already. I just need to use those in my own way." Night Silver explained. I know it sounds crazy, but it's not going to be that hard. "That said, I'll be the one handling all of the drilling for that part of the project." Night Silver explained.
"Then we just have to designate residential areas and go from there." The Elven leader said, not bothering to question Night Silver.
Thus began a surprisingly short discussion about where everyone would live. It didn't take long for a variety of different reasons, however the main one being they had all basically decided upon how they would build previously. So here the only difference was planning the areas properly.
The Dwarves would build their Residential areas hidden away inside the mountain. This served three purposes: First, the dwarves liked the idea of living underground where they felt most at home already. Second the dwarves enjoyed mining, building and other craftsman type jobs, though it was mostly the type of jobs that required a steady and firm hand. Third, the underground residential area would serve as a reinforced bastion for the other races to escape to in dangerous times. Afterall, even Night Silver explained she would need some time to carve into a mountain, so this was the second safest place to be in the event of an attack, the first being inside the Nature's Shelter Night Silver creates.
The Elves would build tree houses. However, at the request of the elves who had personally experienced the wonderful amenities and feeling of being inside the Nature's Shelter, Night Silver would use her magic to make trees that could be carved into whatever would be needed. The elves would begin to carve out the trunk of the trees to build their homes.
A fun side effect of building inside the trees was they had a constant source of fresh and filtered water, the only mild annoyance was trying to manage the flow of the water within the tree. Eventually it was managed thanks to some ingenuity. It may have been unneeded for those who could cast [Create Water], but it was always a good idea to have a backup source in the event it is required.
The Winged-Humans would rebuild their previous settled area at the top of the mountain, where it had been flattened out before. They would also build a small residential area, a little down the mountain on either side, they would use when the weather grew too cold. Some would also make their homes living among the Elves in their forest homes.
The Dragons were a different story, each dragon needed a lot of space to spread out. So it was decided that Moigit and Frayrsis would each have their own lair carved underneath the mountain range. There would be an entrance to either Lair from the Dwarven settlement as well as outside.
Brightness would have his own Lair as well. However, his Lair was a bit different. The area considered his Lair would have the mountain through passage passing in the middle. This was meant to allow everyone safe passage through the mountain, after all no monster would be stupid enough to make their home in a Dragon's Lair. To help alleviate the issue of space, this Lair would be much larger to compensate for two things; The constant traffic of others and the position he held in this society… Being the Husband, or mate of the Goddess was a rather important point to keep track of.
Finally, was Night Silver's residence. She would have a place on either side of the mountain, one on top and one at the center of the pass through the mountain. So five in total, at least that's what many thought. She did have a secret 6th one that she would use for special cases. Of course this didn't include the one she had dragons held prisoner. So… 7 total but 6 locally.
There were also a few other places each race had planned to build for their goddess. But Night Silver had made it abundantly clear that everyone should focus on being housed before herself. The push back she got was so strong that she had to remind them she could just create a home in an instant if needed.
