Chapter 12: Part 12. Rapid Heartbeat
The church doors opened, and Haisley entered with a middle-aged man. She wore a white dress that beautifully wrapped her body. A veil covered her beautiful face. Lucas was smiling so wide in front of her. Haisley, who was originally afraid to take a step, was now a little relaxed seeing Lucas' smile. Her heart was beating fast again, she didn't know why this happened at a time like this. There was no way she was falling in love with Lucas. How could she fall in love with a cruel man like Lucas so quickly? How could she not be cruel if she was threatened with sleeping in a snake cage or being eaten by snakes or crocodiles?
Even though she never saw the crocodile Lucas mentioned, Haisley would believe it because Lucas alone had 3 big snakes. So, there was no way Lucas wouldn't have a crocodile, even if it was just one. Haisley looked at the man beside her, who was none other than her father. His father's face looked so calm after crying earlier.
Some time ago in the church garden, before Haisley was standing here. Her father and brother came to see her, who was waiting in the car. Haisley was so surprised by the arrival of her brother and father. Her brother and father looked handsome like never before when she lived with her father and brother, even though it had only been a month since she had lived with her father and brother. "Can we talk to you?" asked her father as he looked at Haisley with a sad look.
"Yes," Haisley replied briefly and got out of the car.
The bodyguards ordered by Julia kept a close eye on Haisley and his family. They were not allowed to lose Haisley in the slightest.
Her father and brother were now kneeling in front of the standing Haisley. "Father, brother! What are you doing?" asked Haisley, who was surprised by her father and brother's actions.
"Let's get up," said Haisley as she pulled her father and brother's hands, but they didn't want to get up at all.
"Dad, Ken! Come on, get up," Haisley said again as she pulled her father and brother's hands.
"We're sorry," her father and brother said at the same time.
Her father and brother both bowed their heads without looking at Haisley, who was now only silent because of her father and brother's words. "I'm sorry I couldn't take care of you, I gave you a hard time. I should have taken care of you, but instead I made you collateral for me and Ken's gambling debts," Alex said, then raised his head, his eyes were already teary at this point.
"I'm sorry," said Alex.
"I'm sorry," said Ken, who had now also raised his head to look at his younger brother.
Haisley sighed, "I have often asked you to stop gambling and drinking, but you ignore me, and you just get angry," said Haisley.
"It's useless for you to apologize, because I now have to be the wife of that cruel man. A heartless man that I might die if I stay with him," said Haisley.
"No!" screeched Alex and immediately stood up from his kneeling position.
"You will not die, you will always live. Your life will be happier because you are married to Mr. Lucas. The Lucas family is very wealthy, you will definitely be happy. Many women approached Mr. Lucas, but his own mother chose you to be her son's bride. Mr. Lucas was engaged just over a month ago. But his mother chose you over Mr. Lucas' fiancée, who is certainly as rich as their family. You are the best, so you were chosen to be her son's bride. So, you won't die. Mrs. Julia and Mr. Julian just guaranteed that you will be fine," Alex said.
"That's right, you won't die. Mrs. Julia and Mr. Julian have already said that they will protect you and make sure Mr. Lucas won't hurt you," Ken said.
Haisley could only smile wryly, because words were just words. In reality, it probably wouldn't be like that. Although she felt that Lucas had two sides, the cruel demon side outweighed the good angel side. "Everything has happened, there is nothing that can be fixed," Haisley said.
"You'll be happy to be Mr. Lucas's wife and Abraham's daughter-in-law," Alex said.
"Yes," was all Haisley could say. She no longer wanted to discuss what her fate would be with Lucas. What was certain now was that she would be entangled more deeply with Lucas because of the marriage bond that suddenly had to be established.
Haisley had no other choice but to refuse this marriage. She had no power to refuse. Lucas' own mother asked her to marry Lucas without coercion. If she refused, it didn't matter. It was just that Haisley felt her life had no other choice but to accept Lucas as her partner.
Haisley stared at the car that had just arrived, it was Lucas' parents and soon another car arrived. A large man got out of the car, and it wasn't long before he saw Lucas getting out with two large men holding him. Haisley frowned when Lucas had to be held up by two big men. Lucas seemed to be moving, which meant he wasn't unconscious. Was Lucas drunk? But it seemed like Lucas wasn't drunk at all.
After they entered the church, a bodyguard approached Haisley and his family to get ready at the church entrance. Haisley let out a rough sigh before she followed the bodyguard to prepare to wait at the church entrance.
Haisley's hand was grabbed by her father, making Haisley, who had been sighing heavily while staring at the church door in front of her, turn to her father. "Don't be tense, just relax," Alex said.
Haisley didn't answer, she just put her hand on her father's arm. The door to the church opened, she stood still for a moment in front of the door even though her father was about to step through. Haisley stared ahead and neutralized her tiredness from having to go through this wedding. Lucas' smile that was so wide and looked unforced made Haisley pause with a heartbeat that began to stabilize. Again and again, her heart had to beat fast just looking at Lucas's sincere smile.
Slowly but surely, Haisley began to move her feet into the church and approached Lucas, who was waiting for her there with a smile that was so wide. She was now in front of Lucas, who was still smiling broadly, it didn't look as if Lucas was drunk. His eyes were also smiling happily, just like his current smile. Haisley's father held out Haisley's hand and was immediately accepted by Lucas.
"I leave my daughter's happiness to you," Alex said, to which Lucas only smiled back.
After handing over Haisley to Lucas, he approached his son, who was sitting in the chair on the right side. Lucas' family sat in the left seat. Alex looked at his daughter with teary eyes. It was harder to let go of his daughter to get married than when he was forced to give up his daughter for bail.
