Chapter 16: Chapter ¹⁶ The Hotpot of Doom and a Date with Destiny
Chapter 16: The Hotpot of Doom and a Date with Destiny
"Alright, here's the thing. Between fighting soup-themed villains, dealing with an overpowered blob mascot, and trying to navigate the horrors of high school, I've got my hands full. Add a sprinkle of romantic misunderstandings, a dash of terrible luck, and a pinch of fourth-wall commentary, and voila—my life is a chaotic stew. Let's dig in!"
---
After the cafeteria brawl, life at school should have returned to normal. But, as usual, the universe had other plans.
Blobby, now the self-proclaimed "team strategist," has been buzzing around non-stop.
"Alright, boss, listen up!" it chirps as I sit in class, trying to tune out Mr. Kurata's lecture.
"We need to prepare for the next attack!"
---
I groan, slumping in my chair. "Blobby, do you mind? I'm trying to not fail this class."
Blobby ignores me, flapping its tiny wings. "Strategy is everything, boss! We need a plan! A vision! A—"
"Silence," Mr. Kurata says, narrowing his eyes at me.

"Have I mentioned how terrifying this guy is? He's like a human basilisk. One glare, and you're questioning every life choice you've ever made. Honestly, I'm half-convinced he's the final boss in disguise."
---
"Sorry, sir," I mutter, shoving Blobby into my bag.
Reina, seated beside me, smirks. "Trouble in paradise?"
"You try babysitting a sentient marshmallow," I hiss.
---
Class drags on until lunch, where Reina and I grab our usual spot in the courtyard. Blobby immediately pops out of my bag, fluttering around like it owns the place.
"Boss! Reina! Emergency meeting!"
"What now?" Reina asks, sighing.
"I've been detecting strange energy patterns nearby!" Blobby exclaims, pointing its…whatever-it-has as arms toward the city skyline.
---

"Oh, great. Last time Blobby said something like this, we ended up fighting sentient kitchenware. I'm not sure I'm ready for a sequel to Attack of the Pots."
---
"Strange energy patterns?" I repeat, raising an eyebrow.
"Yep!" Blobby says. "It's big, it's powerful, and it's spicy!"
Reina and I exchange a glance.
"Spicy?" she asks.
"It's him," I say, sighing heavily.
"The Sauce Mage?"
"Who else?"
---
Blobby buzzes excitedly. "We need to investigate!"
I shake my head. "Nope. Not today. I'm officially on break from magical nonsense."
Reina folds her arms. "You're just going to ignore a potential threat?"
"Yup."
---
"Akira," she says, her tone dangerously low.
"Reina," I reply, mimicking her voice.
She punches my shoulder. "You're impossible."
"And you're still here," I counter, smirking.
---
Blobby flutters between us. "Come on, team! Adventure awaits!"
"Fine," Reina says, standing up. "If you won't check it out, I will."
I groan. "Wait, wait, I'm coming. If something happens to you, I'll never hear the end of it."
---

"Look, I may act like I don't care, but deep down, I'm a big softie. Plus, if Reina gets hurt, I'll have to deal with Blobby's guilt trips, and no one needs that in their life."
---
We follow Blobby's directions, which leads us to a quaint little hotpot restaurant on the edge of town.
"This is the epicenter of the energy!" Blobby declares, pointing dramatically.
Reina squints at the sign. "The Spicy Cauldron?"
"Sounds legit," I mutter.
---
As we step inside, the smell of chilies and simmering broth hits us like a tidal wave. The restaurant is packed with customers, all happily slurping away.
Blobby flutters nervously. "Something's not right…"
"No kidding," I say, eyeing the oversized cauldron bubbling ominously in the center of the room.
---
A waiter approaches, his smile a little too wide.
"Welcome! Table for two?"
"Actually, we're here to—" I begin, but Reina elbows me.
"Yes, table for two," she says quickly.
I stare at her. "Two? What about Blobby?"
The waiter looks around. "Blobby?"
"Uh, never mind," I say, waving him off.
---
We're seated near the cauldron, and I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched.
Reina leans in, lowering her voice. "You think this is a trap?"
"Definitely," I reply, grabbing a menu. "But the question is, can we order before the villain shows up?"
---
As if on cue, the lights dim, and the bubbling cauldron begins to glow.
A deep, menacing voice echoes through the room.
"Foolish mortals! You dare enter my domain?"
The Sauce Mage rises from the cauldron, his robes billowing dramatically.
---
"Called it," I mutter.
Reina glares at me. "Now's not the time."
"Is it ever?"
---
The Sauce Mage points his ladle at us. "This time, you won't escape my wrath! Behold, the Hotpot of Doom!"
The cauldron erupts, and a massive, fiery creature made of boiling broth emerges, its eyes glowing with rage.
"Great," I say, standing up. "More soup monsters."
---

"You know, for a guy with the title 'Sauce Mage,' his creativity is seriously lacking. I mean, come on. Soup monsters? Again? Someone get this guy a hobby."
---
Reina casts a barrier as the creature hurls scalding broth at us.
"Any ideas, genius?" she shouts.
"Working on it!" I reply, dodging another attack.
---
Blobby zips around frantically. "Boss, use the special technique!"
"What special technique?"
"The one you've been hiding!"
I groan. "Blobby, I've been hiding a lot of techniques. Be more specific!"
---
The blob puffs up. "The big one! The flashy one! The one that makes you look cool!"
"Fine!" I shout, leaping into the air.
With a wave of my hand, I summon a massive, glowing chopstick.
---
The Sauce Mage stares, confused. "What is that supposed to be?"
"Your defeat!" I declare, channeling my magic into the chopstick.
"Wow, that was corny," Reina mutters.
---
I ignore her, hurling the chopstick at the Hotpot of Doom. It pierces the creature's core, and the entire thing explodes into a shower of harmless broth.
The Sauce Mage screams in frustration.
"This isn't over!" he shouts, vanishing in another puff of paprika.
---
I land gracefully, brushing broth off my shoulder.
Reina stares at me. "A giant chopstick? Really?"
"It worked, didn't it?"
---
In a dark, smoky room, the Sauce Mage rants to his shadowy council.
"I demand more resources!" he shouts. "Tanaka's power is far greater than we anticipated!"
A figure steps forward, their face obscured.
"Very well," they say. "We'll send in our best agent."
The room fills with ominous laughter.
