The story of the struggle in another world of the divine cat Mii-chan and the cat supplies summoner

chapter 61 - The Divine Cat Mii-chan Takes a Kitten to the Royal Palace

61: The Divine Cat Mii-chan Takes a Kitten to the Royal Palace

After leaving the Hunter Guild, we returned to the inn and then headed out beyond the city gates with Sumire.

Perro asked if he could ride on Sumire, but when I asked Sumire, she gave a gesture that clearly said no.

“Sumire-nyan is so mean…”

I considered walking around the outskirts after leaving the gate, but I decided against it. The royal capital is too vast, it would be impossible.

We let Sumire roam freely in a grassy field a short distance from the gate.

The rest of us laid out a sheet and basked in the sun. With Perro around, we wouldn’t have to worry too much about monsters attacking, and from this vantage point, we’d see any approaching monsters from a distance.

I hate to interrupt Mii-chan and the kitten while they’re playing, but I asked Mii-chan to bring out the cat litter set. It’s time to teach the kitten how to use the toilet.

Of course, Perro will be the teacher.

“So, this is the toilet, huh?”

“If the kitten learns to use the toilet here, then it won’t have to go anywhere and everywhere.”

“Mii~”

“Is that all there is to it? Alright, little one, do your business here.”

Even if you say that… It’s not easy to go when everyone’s watching… You know?

“Myuu…”

The kitten seemed unsure of what to do and looked to Mii-chan for help.

“Mii~!”

Mii-chan started patting Perro’s and my legs, urging us to turn away. I got the hint and forcefully turned Perro around, even though he didn’t quite understand.

“Nero, what are you doing? I can’t see if the little one is going to pee or not!”

“Mii-chan’s watching, so don’t worry.”

“Mii~”

After a little while, Mii-chan came over and started patting my back. It looks like everything went well. With this, the kitten should have no problem at the royal palace. While I can’t give away the whole cat litter set, I can buy another container and just give them the litter. Even if they run out of this specific litter, they can just replace it with something similar.

By the time Sumire returned, it was lunchtime, so we all sat down to eat. Today, I decided on pilaf rice balls. Perro kept saying “Yum, yum!” as he devoured several of them, and even finished off the leftover cat food the kitten didn’t eat. Just like Mii-chan, I wonder where all that food goes in his small body.

The delicious smell of our meal attracted five Glass Wolves. Sumire took down two with her powerful legs, Perro handled two more, and I finished off the last one. Both Sumire and Perro are really strong. The one I took down was only because they had made it easier for me.

I know it, but this incident made it clear just how much I lack in decisive power. I really need to visit Zelgado and get equipped with a gun soon.

After storing the Glass Wolves in Mii-chan’s bag, we headed back to town. I asked Perro if he had ever done monster dismantling before, but he just had a confused look on his face with a floating question mark above his head.

Since I don’t urgently need money, I’ll wait until we return to Quinto and ask Müller and the others to teach me.

After taking care of Sumire, I decided to head to the public bath. This time, I brought the kitten along as well. Strangely enough, the price for the kitten was the same as mine—doesn’t make much sense, does it?

I only asked the bath attendant to help me. For Mii-chan, Perro, and the kitten, I decided to use a special shampoo blessed by the gods. Perro was the first to try it out.

“It smells really good, nya~”

The shampoo had a faint scent of green apples. In Perro’s case, I wondered if it was more like a delicious smell rather than just a good one.

Next up was Mii-chan. I made sure to fold her ears down so that no soap would get in as I carefully washed her. The kitten was the same, calmly letting me do as I pleased. After we all soaked in the hot water for a while, we got out. I wonder what people around us thought seeing us like that?

Back at the inn, Mii-chan begged me for some sweet bean paste, and of course, I gave in… I’m so weak.

Since we were out of kudzu mochi, I gave Perro some fruit I bought at the bazaar. I’d heard that cats don’t like citrus, but he ate it without any issues. The kitten, on the other hand, didn’t touch it.

Tonight, Perro intends to sleep on the bed again. I might need to come up with a solution. Even though he’s in cat form, maybe I could tie him up with some string or something…

The next morning, I woke up in a near-suffocating situation. Perro, why are you sleeping on my face? We need to have a talk about this.

Today, I’ll be taking the kitten to the royal palace. I’ve bought the necessary supplies, and the kitten’s toilet training is perfect. I hope Lady Lene will be pleased. If she says I can’t keep the kitten, I’ll just take care of it myself.

I stopped by a nearby shop to buy a shallow container for the cat litter and a scratching board, then saddled up Sumire and headed toward the royal palace. I made sure to remind Sumire not to run.

While calming the seemingly displeased Sumire, we arrived at the royal palace. The guards at the gate were visibly startled by Sumire, but after showing them the permit, they professionally carried out their duties. I was instructed to wait in front of the side entrance, and soon enough, Nia-san arrived.

Nia-san was also surprised by Sumire but quickly called a stable hand to take care of her. Sumire, please behave yourself.

I expected to be taken directly to the kitchen, but instead, I was led to meet with the Queen and Lady Lene first. I haven’t even made the sweets yet… Oh well, I suppose it’s fine.

“Kitty!”

“Oh, Nero-kun. Welcome.”

The Queen greeted me with a friendliness that seemed almost out of character for the queen of this country.

Lady Lene immediately embraced Perro, clearly delighted. I approached the Queen, carrying the pet carrier, and said,

“I have a request for you, Lady Anneliese, and Lady Lene.”

“Oh, what might that be?”

“Could I ask you both to take care of this little one?”

“Mii~”

“Mya~”

I took the kitten, whom I’ve been calling Little One, out of the carrier and handed it to the Queen.

“Oh my, it looks just like Perro-chan!”

“Myah~”

“Mommy, kitty!”

“Is it really alright for us to raise it?”

“Could I ask you to take care of it?”

The Queen and Lady Lene were busy showering the kitten with kisses.

Just between us, Perro and Mii-chan thoroughly taught the kitten the “Twelve Rules of Being Adorable,” including how to behave in a way that makes people want to pamper it, how to look cute, and even how to meow endearingly. Don’t call it manipulative—it’s about ensuring the kitten’s happiness in life.

“We’d be delighted to take care of it. Does it have a name?”

“It doesn’t have one yet, so please feel free to give it one.”

I handed over the cat litter and scratching board to Nia-san, explaining their use. I also showed her Mii-chan’s nail clippers and asked if they had anything similar. She said she’d look into it. Considering that wealthy people often keep cats, I figured they’d have nail clippers as well. If not, we could always have some made.

Mii-chan and Perro decided to stay with the Queen and Lady Lene, so I asked Mii-chan to take out the ingredients from her bag and put them into another bag. Nia-san and I then headed to the palace kitchen.

“Alright, I’ll be back soon.”

“Mii~”
