Chapter 61 - The Rebels
Jiang Hui spent a whole afternoon reading the news from the society section.
Despite the large coverage devoted to the event, there was little real insight into the events of that day. Most reports were based on official announcements from the government and a few photos or short videos taken by random individuals, providing no more information than what she already knew.
After reading only a portion, she felt fatigued and confirmed that the journalists didn’t know much either; much of it was mere hearsay. Finishing the articles only solidified her belief that many journalists excel not at reporting but at fabricating imaginative stories.
By the end, she still had no idea why the rebels suddenly appeared on such a small planet.
Moreover, this batch of media was lacking; the photos captured didn’t convey the immediacy she had witnessed firsthand that day. They were merely scraps. Descriptions of valiant imperial soldiers failed to even show their uniforms properly, only showcasing a cluster of military vehicles parked inside and outside the building.
Jiang Hui felt a deep, inexplicable regret. Those soldiers were so spirited, impeccably dressed in their uniforms, creating a scene that was almost a paradise for beauty enthusiasts.
Though, at that moment, it was quite terrifying.
For some reason, she recalled the soldier who had helped her that day. The situation had been too urgent for her to take in his appearance, but she clearly remembered the insignia on his uniform; she just didn’t know what it signified.
Then Jiang Hui recognized the insignia she had seen in the news article; it matched the emblem on the left chest of the soldier. He was from the Third Legion, and judging by the details of his uniform, he was likely an officer or at least a non-commissioned officer.
However, she had only glanced at it back then, her attention elsewhere, so she couldn’t offer an accurate guess now.
From her memories, the Empire was quite strict about protecting military personnel’s identities. Unless they volunteered, the media couldn’t disclose their appearances or report on them.
Of course, some rising military stars and controversial cadets had been in the spotlight since their military school days, and they attracted public attention consistently after entering the military. These individuals had a relatively high exposure rate.
But Jiang Hui’s knowledge was still limited; her memories were fragmented, making her unfamiliar with this aspect. Her understanding couldn’t even list a few interstellar celebrities. Thus, she likely wouldn’t uncover the identity of the kind soldier who helped her the previous day in the near future.
Having concluded her thoughts on yesterday’s incident, her curiosity was somewhat satisfied.
Closing the extended news articles, Jiang Hui refocused on her daily life. After all, this big headline was ultimately someone else’s affair, and she still hadn’t sorted out her own matters.
With all this activity, she felt hungry again.
Jiang Hui reflected on how she had eaten a lot of fast food around four or five in the morning, far exceeding her usual appetite. Now, she was feeling hungry again, which struck her as strange.
She wondered if the shock from yesterday had stimulated an old injury in her brain. Since returning from the Dongbo Group, her mental state had been somewhat unstable, exhibiting a contrasting condition of being active yet unusually fatigued.
After taking a stabilizer before bed last night, she felt slightly better upon waking. However, by four or five, she was experiencing fatigue and hunger again, necessitating a second dose of the stabilizer within eight hours, followed by a large amount of fast food.
By dawn the next day, she felt fine again. All the negative sensations seemed to vanish as suddenly as they had come, which was puzzling.
Fortunately, this abnormal state was brief and had ended before she fully registered it. Otherwise, she would be frantically contacting the hospital’s recovery department by now.
Having lived two lives, Jiang Hui cherished this life she had unexpectedly regained. Besides living for herself, she needed to honor the life of her original self and thrive.
Thus, she decided to keep this matter in mind and observe it further. If a similar situation arose again, she’d go to the hospital for a check-up.
Strange as it was, she still needed to eat. Thinking back to her fast food from earlier, she figured it lacked nutrition, perhaps a common aspect of interstellar life.
Hungry, she thought, might as well eat; she wasn’t on a diet.
Letting go of her distracting thoughts, she turned to the kitchen to find something to eat.

Yesterday, at the Dongbo Group event, she encountered a situation where imperial rebels had infiltrated, leaving her quite startled. Such events were not common in the interstellar realm, especially in settled star systems.
At that time, Carlo was called out by members of the Third Legion and was completely puzzled. He felt a bit anxious, even though he had done nothing to feel guilty about.
Fortunately, they just questioned him as usual. After that, a few soldiers escorted him back home to the capital, so he managed to get through the ordeal unscathed.
Afterward, the events no longer involved Carlo, but could he really act as if nothing had happened?
Carlo had achieved fame at a young age and was once a rare talent, gaining considerable attention in the mech world.
Although he didn’t choose to enter the military system and become a mech engineer due to family reasons, opting instead to be a professional mech designer, mechs were always closely tied to the military, and he had many connections there and was aware of various matters.
News reports outside indicated that the criminals pursued by the Third Legion were rebels, and the government’s announcements confirmed this. However, most people didn’t know what kind of rebellion was at play.
But Carlo did.
Last night, after he returned, a military friend who often commissioned him for mech designs contacted him via a holographic call, asking about the situation.
From the conversation, it was clear that this rebel was not an ordinary one. After all, it was unlikely that elite forces like the Third Legion would be dispatched just for a minor rebel.
He couldn’t help but ask a couple more questions, but the friend was reluctant to share details. Before hanging up, the friend asked if Carlo needed to leave Planet 732 and temporarily relocate to the capital system.
However, Carlo declined due to personal matters.
