chapter 9
9: The Ninth Young Master is “Gentle”
“Are you guys having a party here? Mind if I join in??”
The sudden male voice made the burly man and the surrounding thugs involuntarily turn to look back.
A young man, also dressed in the splendid uniform of Xing Academy, was squatting on a stone stool behind them, watching with interest.
“Yo? My luck today is really good, another Xing Academy young master has shown up.”
“What, you want to play the hero? You can pay if you want, I’m not picky.”
The burly man pulled out a small knife from his pocket and toyed with it in his hand.
Another lamb had come to the slaughter, and this one couldn’t be allowed to slip away.
The burly man gave a signal to his minions, who quickly moved behind the newcomer, cutting off his retreat.
“Hey! Run!! They’re a bunch of thugs!!!”
The boy, clutching his abdomen in pain, shouted, not wanting the newcomer to suffer the same fate.
The other was innocent and shouldn’t be dragged into this because of him.
“Hey, you heard the little brother, we’re a bunch of thugs.”
“You’re a smart guy; you should understand what we mean. I don’t want to make a big deal out of this.”
The burly man ignored the boy behind him and focused on the sturdy young man in front of him.
He seemed to be over 1.8 meters tall, with a muscular build.
But on my side, there are five of us; I doubt this guy would dare any funny business.
Besides, he’s just a student, probably scared to death at the sight of the knife in my hand.
“Uh-huh, got it, got it, you’re just after money, right? You definitely won’t hurt us, I’ll give it to you.”
Wu Liang smiled warmly at the burly man before him, his peripheral vision sweeping over the two behind him.
Such rotten luck, to take a shortcut and stumble into this melodramatic scene.
But according to the typical romance novel plot, shouldn’t I be encountering a damsel in distress being bullied by thugs, not some rough old man?
I wasn’t planning on getting involved in this thankless task, but this alleyway is the only way out.
“Ah, finally, someone sensible shows up. I’m not asking for much, just a few tens of thousands will do.”
“After all, it’s for two people, and you, being the young master of the Glorious Prosperity Institute, surely won’t miss that amount.”
The big man chuckled upon seeing Wu Liang’s easygoing response, thinking he’d found someone sensible at last.
If this guy had resisted like that bratty kid, dealing with such a sturdy young man would have been quite a hassle.
“Nobody really carries cash anymore in this day and age, right? Surely not, right??”
“Got WeChat? I’ll just scan a code then.”
Wu Liang feigned surprise, then pulled out his phone and opened WeChat.
Who would walk around with tens of thousands in cash these days? Scanning a code is the way to go.
“Hahaha, you’re quite the comedian. Alright, scan it is.”
The big man hadn’t expected Wu Liang to joke around with his crew under these circumstances.
It seems this young man isn’t the goody-two-shoes from school, but rather has a bit of a rogue air about him.
Thinking this, the big man’s gaze softened a bit towards Wu Liang.
He himself was a school thug in his youth, after all. Why make life hard for another thug? He decided to be a bit nicer to him.
“I’m sorry… it’s all because of me…”
The boy, stumbling to his feet from the ground, murmured with a face full of regret.
If only he could be a bit more useful, if only he hadn’t wasted time here, then this young man…
“Ah!!!”
Just as the boy was wallowing in self-blame, a miserable scream suddenly erupted ahead.
A heavy punch landed squarely on the big man’s face.
Two broken teeth were instantly knocked out, falling to the ground with traces of blood.
“Did anyone really think I was going to give you money?”
Wu Liang retracted his right fist with a smile, tossed the ‘Fruit 11’ phone he’d snatched from the big man onto the ground, and crushed the screen underfoot.
He couldn’t tell if it was just his imagination, but he felt something odd about his body now.
If you asked him to pinpoint what was odd, Wu Liang couldn’t quite articulate it at the moment.
To put it broadly, it seemed like… his body was now a bit too strong…
“Damn it, you ungrateful brat, that’s the fruit I just bought, you’ll see if I don’t…”
Clutching his bleeding nose, the burly man snarled menacingly.
Just as he was about to slash the ignorant kid with the knife in his hand.
He found himself staring at his empty hands, dumbfounded. His phone had just been snatched by that brat, but where did the knife go?
“What’s the matter? Looking for this?”
Wu Liang slowly extended his left hand, revealing the burly man’s knife resting in his palm.
As if to mock the man, Wu Liang twirled the knife skillfully, creating a few flourishes.
“Damn you, what are you all waiting for, kill him!”
Veins bulged on the burly man’s forehead, and he bellowed with a red-faced roar.
Being played by a kid not even fully grown, where would that leave his face?
Forget about continuing to be a thug in this area, he wouldn’t even be able to lift his head in front of his own minions.
“Beat him to death! Damn it, he dares to mess with me, I’ll show you what’s…”
The sudden appearance of a figure flying towards him made the burly man swallow the curse that was on the tip of his tongue.
The newcomer knocked the burly man to the ground, and they ended up piled on top of each other like a stack of falling blocks.
“Damn you, you’re useless, can’t even beat a high schooler?”
Looking at the minion who had passed out on top of him, the burly man cursed under his breath.
When the burly man pushed the minion off and looked forward again, his face instantly lost all color.
Thwack
A kick, swift as a whip, struck the face of the thug in front of him, knocking him out cold.
Wu Liang easily dodged another thug’s dagger and grabbed the assailant’s wrist with one hand.
With just a light twist, the thug’s dagger fell to the ground, accompanied by his screams of agony.
“This is the level you’re at, and you’re trying to rob people? Grow a brain.”
Wu Liang looked down disdainfully at the screaming thug.
A kick landed squarely on the thug’s rear, sending him tumbling face-first into the dirt.
“But this body… it really is freakishly strong…”
After dispatching the thugs with ease, Wu Liang frowned and looked at his own hands.
In the game setting, Wu Liang, due to frequent fights, indeed had better physical fitness than the average student, but it was never to this exaggerated extent.
What was going on with him now…?
