Chapter 24: Liberation Of The Government District Pt. 2
Happy New Year Enjoy Some Comedy And Explosions.
The streets of the government district erupted in chaos as explosions rocked the air, scattering debris across the war-torn pavement. Resistance fighters charged forward, their battle cries mixing with the booming echoes of detonating grenades and Hydra gunfire. Wanda Maximoff stood in the thick of it, her symbiote suit shimmering with crimson light as she carved through the enemy lines.
Beside her, Eska Vryn fired her rifle with practiced precision, her looted battle armor deflecting stray bullets. "This place is a fortress," Eska muttered, her voice tight as she ducked behind a broken wall for cover.
"Yeah, but it's their fortress," Wanda replied, raising the Chitauri Scepter. "Ours blows up better."
With a flick of her wrist, Wanda unleashed a beam of golden energy that struck an abandoned Hydra tank. The explosion lit up the area, sending a wave of heat and shrapnel rippling outward. She grinned, brushing soot off her shoulder. "Now that's how you dismantle a government."
Eska snorted as she fired off another shot. "That's a Friday night for anyone in the Sokovia resistance."
Wanda glanced at her, raising an eyebrow. "Okay, so maybe my country has some anger issues to work out before I leave."
The resistance fighters pressed forward, planting charges and lobbing grenades at Hydra's remaining defenses. The air was thick with smoke and the acrid tang of burning metal. One fighter let out an exuberant yell as another explosion lit up the sky.
"Yahoo! I love blowing stuff up! This is the shit I signed up for!" the man hollered, raising his weapon triumphantly.
Another fighter nearby groaned, shaking his head. "You all have way too many guns and bombs. No wonder no tourists come here anymore."
The first man smacked him on the back of the head. "Oh, right! We're in the middle of toppling a government today. I thought that was scheduled for next Tuesday."
"No, you idiot," a third fighter chimed in, shoving him lightly. "That's a different government next week."
The group burst into laughter, their humor a small reprieve in the midst of chaos.
Eska glanced at Wanda as they ducked behind a barricade. "I'm starting to think this country isn't big on self-reflection."
Wanda smirked, hurling a pulse of chaos magic at a Hydra turret. The resulting explosion sent enemy soldiers scrambling for cover. "Reflection is for after the fireworks."
Hydra reinforcements poured in from the middle perimeter, their movements methodical and relentless. Automated turrets lined the streets, their sensors locking onto resistance fighters. Wanda and Eska moved in sync, cutting through the defenses with practiced efficiency.
A Hydra drone swooped low, its guns blazing. Wanda leapt onto a nearby ledge, her symbiote-enhanced speed carrying her effortlessly. She drove the scepter into the drone's chassis, releasing a surge of energy that sent it crashing to the ground.
Eska raised her rifle, covering Wanda as more drones approached. "You're enjoying this way too much."
Wanda spun the scepter, her grin widening. "I call it job satisfaction."
Fracture's voice slithered into Wanda's mind, her tone low and amused. **"Job satisfaction or dinner? Because I see plenty of appetizers ahead."**
Wanda rolled her eyes as she sent another wave of chaos magic crashing into the enemy ranks. "You're insatiable, you know that?"
**"You'd miss me if I weren't,"** Fracture replied, her tendrils lashing out to snatch a Hydra soldier. The man screamed as the symbiote's maw devoured him in one swift motion. **"Delicious."**
Eska darted past Wanda, her rifle blazing. "Your symbiote's eating habits are seriously concerning."
"She's working through some things," Wanda replied, deflecting a burst of gunfire with a flick of her wrist. "Aren't we all?"
The resistance fighters began planting charges along Hydra's defensive barricades, the controlled detonations creating openings for their advance. Wanda moved like a whirlwind, her symbiote claws slicing through enemy lines with precision and ferocity.
A Hydra officer shouted orders from a mounted turret, his voice sharp over the din of battle. Wanda turned her attention to him, her eyes narrowing as chaos energy surged through her. She leapt onto the turret, her symbiote tendrils tearing through its mechanisms. The officer scrambled to escape, but Fracture snatched him mid-run.
"Any last words?" Wanda asked, her tone casual.
The man stammered incoherently as Fracture devoured him. Wanda sighed. "No creativity. Disappointing."
Eska appeared beside her, panting slightly. "We've breached the middle perimeter. Hydra's forces are falling back to their last stronghold."
"Good," Wanda said, the glow of the scepter illuminating her face. "Let's keep them running."
The battle raged on as the resistance pushed deeper into the district. Explosions punctuated every advance, the sound reverberating through the air like a chaotic symphony. Wanda and Eska led the charge, their movements a seamless blend of power and strategy.
At one point, a resistance fighter planted a particularly large explosive on a Hydra barricade. He grinned wildly as it detonated, sending debris flying.
"Now that's how you make a statement!" he yelled, pumping his fist.
Eska shook her head, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "Your people have a flair for the dramatic."
Wanda chuckled, launching another blast of chaos magic. "We call it national pride."
As the resistance secured the middle perimeter, Hydra's remaining forces retreated toward the heart of the Government District. The fighters regrouped, their breaths heavy but their spirits high.
Wanda stood at the edge of the rubble, her symbiote suit glinting in the firelight. She turned to Eska, her smirk tempered by determination. "Ready for the final push?"
Eska nodded, reloading her rifle. "Let's end this."
The two women shared a brief moment of understanding before turning back to the battlefield. Hydra's stronghold loomed ahead, a fortress of steel and defiance waiting to be dismantled.
"After you," Eska said, gesturing toward the chaos.
Wanda twirled the scepter, her grin returning. "Let's bring the house down."
