Chapter 141: Questioning The Mana Core
I snickered at the woman trying to convince me that this fish was edible, but I truly didn't care. I was so hungry that I would have just straight up eaten the sand off the beach, so I was lucky there was some actual edible food around us.
"Let's eat on the beach…" She smiled, and as I followed her out of our humble abode, we soon came in contact with the beach that had been chilled by the moonlight. The sun had truly left from this world, and we had to wait another twelvish hour to see it again.
Soon, we sat down, digging our toes into the cool sand below. We began to eat in silence, staring up at the stars and keeping a watchful eye on the eerie dungeon water rocking back and forth.
"Hey, is this cove the dungeon… or is it the entire city?"
"It's the entire city and more. This is just a small part of the dungeon, but it's a relatively weak one, so there is no need to worry about any large-scale attacks for now… and if there are, just know the temple will be there to stop them. We're like their protective guardians in exchange for spreading the temple's words."
…
"Ugh… so… tired…" I muttered, feeling my entire body practically groan as I got out of bed. It was nice having my own personal room for a change, as I was practically sharing a bedroom with other kids for way more than half my life. The peace and quiet were nice, but also, the fact that I could do whatever I wanted without disturbing anybody was amazing.
"Good morning," A cheery smile greeted me as I rubbed my eyes and sat down on the couch. It was a nice day today as the sun was already peering through the thin-cloth curtains.
"Ugh… good morning… I think I ate too much last night… I'm about to throw up…" I groaned, lying down on the couch face first.
"How about you get ready before we eat breakfast because I'm nowhere near finished right now. Wash your face and brush your teeth. Everything you need is in the bathroom, but don't be too slow. I'm not gonna wait for you if you take years to get ready…."
"Yeah, yeah…" I muttered, moving to the bathroom and hopping in the shower. I already took one last night, but a cold shower to wake me up in the morning was perfect.
Upon finishing my morning routine, changed into a pair of shorts and a tropical button-down tee that didn't really fit me, but that was all we had. And as I sat down at the dining table, Seber lightly chuckled at my beachy appearance.
"Seems you're ready."
"Couldn't you have bought anything more discrete?"
"Why are you complaining, it suits you," Seber continued to laugh while I slowly ate my two slices of bacon and scrambled eggs. "Anyways, how is the food? Any good?"
"It sucks…"
"How mean~"
"Mhm… Anyways, when are we going to visit the temple? You've been hyping it up for some time now but you refused to take me yesterday…"
"Didn't you want to explore the beach a bit first?"
"No, you forced me."
"A-Ah, did I?" Seber made a stupid expression before looking down at my plate, which had already been cleaned out. "It sucked, huh? Then why'd you destroy it? You almost finished off the fucking plate as well."
I stayed silent as I handed my plate over to her, and with a light chuckle, she took it and washed off our plates. While stuffing them in the dishwasher, I made my way back to the couch and began to meditate, circling not only mana but aether through my mana veins as well. They mingled and mixed with the mana, forming new strands of powerful substances that made me feel warm all over my body.
"Come on, let's get going," A voice interrupted my simple meditation, and as she swiftly tapped the back of my head, I hopped off the couch and looked down at my hand.
"Are there layers to aether?" I muttered to myself.
I know there are layers to the mana core, but that's completely gone now. I can't push through into its next layer without it being in my status, but due to the fact that it's still in my body, I can still use mana to a certain degree… yet, it's now incapable of increasing in power.
So, if I don't find a way of increasing the power of my aether core, I might not be able to get any stronger with meditation. Meaning all of my years of knowledge on increasing my power through this method… would be completely useless. Find adventures on empire
In addition… do people even cultivate here? Are people even aware of the fact that a mana core exists?
"What has you thinking so hard?" Seber asked as we walked down the morning streets. She kindly greeted any passerby and even helped out a few struggling older men and women. She was the perfect samaritan for this place to milk dry until she had no more use.
"I've noticed something really weird…."
"What?"
"People don't cultivate their mana cores? And do they even have mana cores in their status? I feel like there would be some kind of class at school, but there is nothing."
"Huh? Mana core? What's that?" Seber asked, and seeing how she looked so genuinely clueless, I couldn't help but click my tongue.
"Did the org not teach you anything about the mana core? It's not like I created… Its entire presence has been known for quite a while. Well, at least back in our world."
"M-Maybe I died too early for me to learn it, but I wasn't a dog to the organization. I was still a pretty high-ranking member automatically since I passed the jar and everything…. Uhhhh… Can I ask which rank you learned it at?"
"I learned it at the Divine Layer."
"D-Divine… well, that explains it."
